Don't know why people advise to buy a size up in Shimano shoes. I'm a size 10 and bought Shimano MT34's in size 45 which is a size 10 to 10 1/2 and fit perfect. If you want to wear 10 pairs of socks in the winter, then maybe..
If you have a shop nearby, probably best just to go try a pair on and see how they fit, but I personally wouldn't want to wear a pair of cycling shoes that would be sliding around as I pedal
I paid about £40 for my MT34's and no issues after a few months, would recommend. Not sure what's available for less

I agree. I bought a size up (10s instead of 9s) in the dhb M1.0 MTB shoes and reckon I would easily have fit in the 9s. I've put another insole in mine so they fit properly.
These were my first clipless pedals and they're great.

Managed a bike shop for 7 years and generally Shimano needed to be a size bigger .. Not always , it was often wider feet that didn't fit .. Ohh and no consistency in sizing between models ... In sort try em on.

I've got a pair of basic tour style Shimano (bought a size up - still a close fit!) for about £45 in the sales. I also bought a pair of Aldi SPD cycling shoes for about £15. I worn both for 7 years now and frankly they are both great. If anything I wear the Aldis more as they are easier to get on.

Not heard of Nike making footwear for cyclists. There are many brands out there that do cycling shoes. Just not the ones that do mainstream shoes/trainers.
Just go to any major bicycle retailer and they would have cycling shoes. Evanscycles, Wiggle, CycleSurger, halfords etc etc etc they all sell cycling shoes.

I find it easier to get my feet off the pedal with clipless compared to being clipped in with straps. Also found that the plastic part dug into my toes too.
jimmyt11
28 Jul 15#37
they tend to use the horizontal movements of the foot too, especially the pullback of the foot

The best 'upgrade' you can buy for a bike, once you go clipless you'll never want flats again.
whatyadoinsucka to cycleman
29 Jul 15#59
I tend to agree, but for mtb trail centres and tricky technical rocky sections offroad pedals can come into their own , the only downside of these m520 pedals are the size if you need to set off on a steep uphill, you can't always get good traction before the clip in to get the momentum, especially when it's wet and cold and muddy.. But for the majority no problem
dodgymix to cycleman
29 Jul 15#76
im seriosuly considering going back to flats as last few smashes hgave been worsened by being clipped in.

28 Jul 15#42
I bought them last time around. If you are new to this type of kit you need to practice clipping in and OUT as there is always an audience when you fall over.
lots of commuters use these too instead of road pedals as they are double sided, making it easier to clip in at all the stop points along the route

M520 SPD's are really good , I used eggbeaters for years due to the 4sided click entry system, kept wearing out the bearings or breaking the pedal spindles . About 3 years ago I got a pair of M520's and not looked back since, they've been dinged , kerbed , bollarded and work perfectly well , yeah Shimano's last forever!! I also have the all mountain AM-50 boot , I ride hard ..shoes have been to hell and back over the past 6 years and stood up to the abuse .. really hard wearing. Only just beginning to show wear in the soles , Uppers still fine even the velcro fastening surfaces!
Yeah Shimano anytime

Nike were making shoes years ago Got my first pair of Nike clipless shoes in '93..that sports shop near where Specsavers is located on Tottenham Court Road..they were laceups , I kept getting laces tangled in the velcro strap so abandoned the idea , in 99 got some road shoes and slipped badly outside work on the first day , nearly ended up through the plate glass window. sent them back promptly and moved onto MTB Sidi Dominators who were about the only other folks to make a size 14 shoe. Unfortunately after a very wet ride one day. I left them out to dry on the step and woke up in the morn to discover a fox had crapped into each boot , what made it worse , they were near new , the shoes had been placed toes facing outward so the fox would have had to reverse to do it's business. was well annoyed!
I'd love a pair of Shimano AM50 shoes again if I could find them in a size 14 ( EU50) ,Perhaps someone has spotted a lone pair in the wild. I'd be very happy to know where
Thanks
