This phone is a bargain. Currently the best selling phone in China and this is actually cheaper with the launch offer. Finally no rip off Britain.

Ignore the reviews complaining about EMUI. Only stock android snobs complain about it. Having used both, emui is much better.

Tried to clarify the 4G bands but all they said was it's compatible with the UK networks, not sure if they meant 4G or just the phone, anyone know as GSMarena implies it might not be 4G compatible for voda/o2 network...?

Hi. Your 'Ignore the reviews' comment stuck in my mind since I read it because it was so deviant. Wow, surprised this got hot. Honestly thought it'd go the other way

I have the Honor 6 and I had to admit, they are poor with updates... the biggest problem for me is they don't make their source open to anyone... and with the Honor phones having a custom CPUs it means the ROM scene is almost none existent. I love messing about with phones so it's really irritating for me.

But apart from that the phone has been great. IMO Huawei make most reliable phones out of the 'Chinese' options.

I'm a little tempted to sell my Honor 6 and get this.

It'll 100% support all UK networks. Huawei don't just make phones for Chinese markets... they are made for countries all around the world. And this coming from their UK warehouse means it'll 100% work with UK networks.

wixelix
27 Aug 15 #56
If there is, then it would be minor. Tried many games on the Honor 6 and didn't notice any issues and Honor 7 has an improved gpu. If there is any reviews that state the gaming performance is terrible, changing the performance mode would resolve them. There is a 'smart' and 'normal' mode. Smart which is the default setting doesn't let the gpu/cpu run full speed to preserve battery.

wixelix to alxdenisov

P8 camera has OIS and a better ips neo display. That and its thin design are the main reasons its more expensive. Honor 7 has its own advantages though... fingerprint scanner, bigger battery, smart key, front camera flash.

Asphalt 8 runs flawlessly for me on the Honor 6. Don't see why people get so let down by not getting 10,000 fps on mobile games.
elrasho is probably saying there's lag and stuttering without ever using the phone... daft seeing as it's not out here yet. Reviews say it's all super-smooth.

The Honor range are their 'midrange' series of phones. The P8 is a premium design, and the P9 will be the new flagship when it comes out later this year/early '16 I guess.

Wouldn't say crazy... depends on what your needs are. You'll lose the better OS/UI, 1440p screen + 0.3" size... but gain better cameras, front-facing flash, fingerprint reader and an extra gig of ram

alxdenisov
27 Aug 15 #66
Thanks for the responses. I have the P8 and the only things I like are looks and display. But must admit it lags noticeably being a premium phone. Battery life is also below expectation for many but I manage 2 days being a low user. The Camera or OIS does not impress me anywhere near to my WPs. I was shocked to see this has 935 compared to 930 in the P8, and battery is about half a grang mAh more, but looks are not as impressive as p8. Anyway good deal. Many complains about the OS, but I find it quite good compaired to my G2 or earlier Samsungs or Sony's (Individual taste I guess).

second sims just aren't a big thing outside of Asia (though yes some do use 2 they are a minority). It allows the manufacturer to build one phone for multiple regions.
MaximusRo
27 Aug 15 #71
Speak for yourself, I find it hard to understand that, as I need Dual SIM as do most here, think of all the deals for all sorts of SIMs that offer 100GB data/month and so on... with a Dual SIM, no problem.

I also don't like chinese phone trying desperately to look like Apple, if I wanted Apple products, I wouldn't bother with Android. And now it is not just about the UI and design, but also about the adoption of nano-SIM. nano-SIM is a silly invention from apple that should go away. Micro sim is small enough and compatible with a larger array of phones.

Having separate slots the would take up more space inside the phone and affect battery size or other things. That's why there is also a 64gb version of this phone but only available in Asia atm ... Same goes for the nano sim, takes up less space.
Hazuki101

High tech phones these days are very cramped inside. Using micro sims or 2 individual nano + micro sd would result in other things possibly having to be removed, such as the smart key in the Honor 7. That was just their decision to do it they way they did, and there is 64gb version for people who who want lots of storage with dual sim.

The thing is I'd like a dual sim too. But I'm not speaking for myself. In Asia it is extremely common to have two sims, one for calls and texts, the other for data, due to high costs for both customers shop round for each individually.

Outside of Asia this simply isn't the way people get contracts / sim deals and people with two are a minority.

Where are people getting this slightly better than the P8000 opinion from?On what planet is 2.2Ghz Kirin CPU 'slightly better' than a 1.3GHz MediaTek CPU? The P8000's camera's are also poor in comparison. Also Elephone have been known to lie about specs in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if the battery in it is much less than they claim, especially seeing as somebody in this thread mentioned the battery in it doesn't last as long as the Honor 6.

I have an Elephone p6000 and while it is excellent for the price there are a few niggles that mean I can't live with it any more, mostly camera and battery life. I believe p8000 has a huge battery that doesn't quite last as long as it should, and also a poor camera, as well as very large bezels making the footprint of the phone pretty big. If these things don't matter to you then go for the elephone

You know, smart phones, and yes, they used to have hardware buttons at the bottom of the screen as well.

Huawei are a good manufacturer however the speed at which they give you android updates is suverely limiting(They won't provide an update until the next phone is out). The international variant will get NO ROMs, just like the Huawei Honor 6, as they refuse to release the code as part of GPL. If this doesn't bother you then go nuts, it is an amazing device and well built if the Honor 6 is anything to go by.

Before I was confused between OnePlus 2 or Moto X Play or Moto X Style but I think Moto X Style will be around £330 and 3rd grade invite system of Oneplus 2 and lack of NFC, FM Radio, Irda and also Moto X play no fingerprint reader and price more than Honor 7, I can do bit compromise on speed but not on there as I don't play highly intense games on my mobile device, and one more reason to order is this website is fully UK region compatible

Not sure what ROMs you used, but Nightlies or M release on CyanogenMod are stable. Honor 7 is not a great improvement on the Honor 6(I have used it extensively) nor does the customisation provided equal that of a blank slate.

You still don't understand. Did your 4" phone have 3gb ram, a fingerprint sensor, a 3100mah battery and so on? No it didn't. It was easy to put those sim slots in it, it's not easy in phones like the Honor 7, compromises have to be made, there is no empty space left on phones like these.

28 Aug 15 #134
A good looking phone at a good price. A few comments and questions..... We are talking about a smartphone here right? So for a phone.....
Is the lack of NFC a deal breaker?
Is the lack of timely updates a deal breaker?

As long as it makes phone calls, apps and browsers work OK, it can take a few reasonable photos, music sounds OK, then who really gives a poo?

Me, am happy with my first gen Moto G LTE until I lose it or drop it again. Am not sure why I would need anything with more power or storage TBH, unless I was obsessed with specs and still lived at home with my mum.

Thanks ;-)

Yes. As I said earlier in the thread, Huawei makes phones for the worldwide market and not just China. As long as you buy from a UK retailer, it'll work with all UK networks... Honor 6 included.

It's out of stock because it's a pre-order. Support said 10-14 days til they get dispatched... the Honor 7 Flip Covers say ETA 9 days til they're in stock, so you have to imagine that's when all they should be receiving the phones as well?

I'm now using Google Now launcher as preferred the app drawer at the bottom. EMUI just had every app installed displayed on the homescreens. This may not be an issue with every Huawei Honor 4X often doesn't notify me of emails, I have to go into the app to get it to refresh. The calendar is constantly closing and alerting me the app has stopped working. I use Google calendar now but get dual alerts as there seems to be no way to disable the stock calendar. All in all I think I prefer stock Android with one exception......when you enter you unlock pin code with EMUI/Huawei launcher you don't have to hit enter afterwards, just the code and the phone unlocks. It's only a little thing but I like that.

I have a Elephone P8000 and so does my daughter and neither of us have been charged any duty. I have a Asus Zenfone 2 the top one with 4gb ram and a 2.3ghz quad CPU i like the P8000 that much ive turned the Asus off and started using the Elephone. In my opinion the P8000 is a very nice looking phone its very well made better than the 3x the price Asus with a metal frame fingerprint reader and a 1080p screen the only issue i find is its heavy but it has a massive battery that lasted 2 days of fairly high use with ease where as the Asus has trouble lasting a day. Benchmarks wise Antutu scores around 3400 where as the Asus murders it with a score of 4800 and has double the graphics score but even so its a very nice phone it may not have the power of the Huawei but its half the price and i bet the battery lasts way longer. Anyone wanting a great phone with a £110 i doubt theirs anything that comes even close to the P8000 it feels like a £500 phone its also very easy to root for those that are interested.

People who are complaining about the 16gb of storage shouldn't worry as Android 6 will allow installation of all apps to SD, so as long as this get a update the storage will be no issue and that goes for any phone. The reason they have done this is so people with a 8gb rom can install apps without issue so the storage issues will be a thing of the past only limited to the size of SD you install. Huawei are building the Nexus 6 2015 so Google obviously respect their build quality so people who say they make crap not everyone agrees me personally eventhough i have 2 phones already i would save my money for the LG Nexus5 2015 it will be £100 more but it will be cutting edge spec wise and will keep getting updates on release day for 2-3 years so the premium will be worth it.

Got any links to actual similar spec'd phones at this price? People constantly keep comparing it to the Smart Ultra 6 and the P8000, but this is in another league. I find it pretty bizarre buld quality, CPU manufacturer, CPU speed, NFC fast charging, superior cameras, aluminium frame etc are features that are just being ignored. It seems all some look at is the ram amount and octa-core and think "yep, same spec as a £115 P8000!"
Berty_Baron
28 Aug 15 #185
Apple, Motorola and Samsung release their new models next week and Supposedly One Plus will start sending bulk invites. It's a busy week and weighing up price and spec, coupled with the £40 discount(really £33.33) then this is the best value I think.

Spec is great. If people are unsure you can just google Honor 7 Vs [insert name of other device] and you can see for yourself the differences. When you try to compare this phone though the reviews are showing the Chinese version with limited UK/IRL GSM/LTE Bands so be aware of that.

I was thinking of the Xiaomi Redmi note 2. It is missing a few things like the fingerprint ID but the Xiaomi has a faster processor and a bigger screen than this huawei. It is less than half the price of this huawei on aliexpress. Even if you get told to pay import taxes it's still a lot cheaper than this. So I'm wondering why this is twice as much as the Redmi note 2?
SeanR301
28 Aug 15 #188
Yeah true, would you say its worth waiting for this or buying the Honor 6 now?
wixelix
28 Aug 15 #189
Metal build, better quality screen (its not just resolution that makes a screen good) 3gb vs 2gb ram, likely better cameras. Redmi note 2 is a budget phone, it would make more sense to compare honor 7 to the Mi4. There's also many other things people overlook such as ram type/speed, storage speed, speaker quality, wifi/network performance etc These are likely to be a bit better on Honor 7. Xiaomi have to had cut corners somewhere considering the chipset.

Really tempting deal but I'm still waiting for the Xiaomi Mi5. Currently on a Meizu MX4 after upgrading from a Mi4 and it's got amazing hardware but I prefer the apple-esque MIUI interface over Flyme. EMUI looks very similar to MIUI too so this is really tempting but one thing stopping me is the onscreen navigation buttons. MIUI and Flyme don't have those thankfully. It really is an amazing price though as I paid £275 for my Mi4 on release (got stung for customs) and £225 for my MX4 back in Feb.

It's also nice to see microSD and NFC support, something both the Mi4 and MX4 do not have.

Has the money physically gone out (i.e. the transaction showing) or is the amount just deducted from your 'available balance'? £430 has gone from my available balance (cancelled one order because I wanted to add a case) but I imagine it will go back to the original amount in a few days time. I believe transactions have two phases, one is to check the account has enough money and the second is to confirm/complete the transaction. The thing is even if only the first phase is done the money will still temporarily deduct from your available balance...

It should go back to normal in a few days. And if they do charge? Well, they can expect a lot of angry customers!

Also are these the 2 best phones at this £200 price point ??
sfkjgk to robertadams12345
29 Aug 15 #230
Depends, Not sure about which camera is better, they both seem decent.
The battery on the play is larger and should last longer and I think the processor is better, but i've heard of a few heat problems.
Also if you prefer stock android then the Moto X Play should be better for you and it should get updates much faster than this.
However, it doesn't include a fingerprint scanner or a gyroscope if those are dealbreakers for you. Personally I was tempted with this so I pre-ordered as its £209 compared to £260ish for the Play since it's more affordable for me. (if you can get the Play for £200 point me to it )

Others you can get for less than £200 are the Smart Ultra 6 and the Xperia M4 Aqua, but the Aqua only has 8gb storage which was a dealbreaker for me annoyingly. On o2 refresh you can get a refurbished Xperia Z3 for £200 if you pay off the phone immediately, but I have no idea what their refurbished phones are like and I've heard of cracking glass problems which put me off, plus others have a longer warranty.

All of this is just from what I've heard though so I'd take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The snapdragon 615 is certainly NOT better than the Kirin 935. It is a pretty bad chip, good on paper but bad in real life. If shares similar problems to the 810 and throttles its performance almost instantly. Even if it was working full speed it is still weaker. Snapdragon 615 has 4 cortex a53 cores @ 1.7ghz and 4 @ 1.0ghz. Kirin 935 has 4 a53 cores @ 2.2ghz and 4 a53 cores @ 1.5ghz. The processing power is 25-50% better in the Kirin 935 and it is able to manage it better.

The fact that The Guardian review states Dual-sim and NFC which leads to believe those are on the UK/Europe model

I honestly think the best idea would be to get the £9.99 flip one from their site - seems pricey but then you don't need to bother with screen protectors. When new phones come out the cases/covers that follow are usually not very good quality. The Honor 6 never really had many stand-out cases/covers etc, I ended up paying over £20 for various ones before I found one I liked (the official flip one for that)

Ordered on the basis that we can reject the order when we are notified about the stock/delivery - if we have second thought about wanting these phones.

I would have liked to order the gold one, but they are not showing these, only silver or grey,

Thanks for the heads up about this deal, hoping it will be a good replacement for our old Samsung S3's

I was about to take this offer until I read that there's only 9GB of the 16GB free. I would want to use it with my work and personal SIMs in so wouldn't be able to add an sdcard. Shame as this looks to be the first dual sim phone that comes close to the spec I would like. By the time I'd installed my apps (inc storage hungry satnav) I don't think I'd have much spare capacity for any music and photos.

The reviews say it's dual standby meaning you have both lines active until you make or receive a call at which time you can't use the 2nd sim for a 2nd call or conference call.
wseed
29 Aug 15 #261
Do you mean an SDcard external to the phone? The MicroSD card in the phone is shared with the 2nd sim socket so you can have 2 sims installed or 1 sim and a microSD card but not all 3.

I have the Note 2 too, and I also check HotUkDeals daily hoping to see a good deal, but the reality is the Note 2 is an amazing phablet, I guess the only way I'm going to upgrade is when the LGG4 or Note 4 drops to the £250 mark, whenever that may be.
aian
30 Aug 15 #277
Another one with the Note 2 here. As I keep all my electronics in pristine condition (screen protectors, sturdy cases etc.) I am trying hard to justify changing the Note 2 with thi Honor 7, even though I really like it.

If I could easily change the Honor's ROM (which there's no need to do in the Note 2 as it runs perfectly) and/or if I could try it to see how well Sygic Navigation runs on it, I might change my mind. But for now, I think I'll hold.

Still, this is a great bargain, and voted hot.

After wait an hour in their chat and numerous phone calls, I have confirmed it with their tech staff the following:

1) There is NO NFC. Some question why its useful but when even the iPhone 6 have it, they are notoriously slow with specs, you better expect it on your phone...
2) dual sim stand-by. You either use a dual sim or use that slot of expandable memory.
3) There is only one model being sold in the UK and its the PLK-L01 that's being sold.
4) 2 year UK warranty

I'm not sure about oneplus 2 but just read a review which said its reasonable. I have ordered this Honor at present.

I'm really after a high end dual sim, with both on standby, smartphone (would also like a sdxc card slot that does not take up the SIM slot) and I cannot believe its this difficult to source one in the UK. I have read I need to buy one from outside the EU as there are better options but they are not marketed here...even the galaxy note 3 duo is unobtainable which would be my preference! Also I'm not sure what bandwidths on phone would be needed to work with Three and EE over here and how to see if the phone is compatible...anyone got same issues or even better a solution ?!!

Done some more research since I'm not sure if I want this phone or not. There is also the Moto X Play and Zefone 2 at around the same price which are also contenders. Or even Note 4 if you can afford to pay more.

One thing is for sure, NO NFC. The tech I spoke to said there isn't. And its confirmed by other europeans that have this model of the Honor 7 that we will be getting.

https://www.vmall.eu/uk/

Noticed tonight that the vMall site has a 'register to vmall for a voucher up to £40', unless that's outdated, it looks like they'll be redoing a voucher soon? I did sign up with another account to check, but received no voucher.

Also noticed that it says the Mate S is available to pre-order from Sept 15th. Pretty damn stunning phone so that'd be very interesting if they had a voucher for that as well. Although price of it does seem a bit steep - £477 for the 32GB... seems a bit much to me seeing as it has a worse battery and lower MP camera than the H7! That water resistancy, build quality, thickness + bezel, amoled screen and curved gorilla glass though!

May well take the plunge if there's £100 off or something. Doubt that'll happen, though!

Mine arrived around 8.30 this morning, left it charging before heading off to work. First impressions very positive & it's a lot of phone for the money. Was a bit concerned it was going to be too heavy, but just feels very premium & is comfortable for single-handed usage. Can confirm there is no NFC, but that isn't a major factor for me. Also, there is a screen protector attached. Will have a proper play with it when I'm home later, but so far, so good!

lol troll. **** off and stop wasting space. Just because I haven't opened it doesn't mean I don't want it. Not my fault you chose the black version and its out of stock and I chose the other colour which is less popular and I get it earlier. Everyone that ordered will get it, its not like its a misprice. And even if I ultimately decide its not for me, it'll just be returned back to Huawei same as what any other customer making an online purchase would do.

I spent hours contacting them on the phone and live chat to talk to them and reported back what the specifications of the phone that their tech told me. I've been feeding people info I know about this phone throughout the whole thread and so don't start talking bs on me now. Yea folks buying these to sell on eBay are idiots. They aren't hot selling phones that people actively search for and will probably only sell when you lower the price down enough so it works out you break even or even at a slight loss after fees. What moron is going to pay over £60 more than RRP for it? This thread is proof that most couldn't distinguish the differences between the Honor 7 and Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 for example. Even £210 was too much for them...

IMO this is the best phone out of the choices Slash. The Motorola X Play is overpriced for what it is... has less ram and a 500mhz slower Snapdragon 615 CPU which is pretty old now (in phone terms) - that phone will be £150 in a few months guaranteed. Techradar didn't like the Zenfone 2 because of its "cheap look and feel" and the "dim screen", and they also state that it has a rubbish camera.

This has a premium metal build quality (not plastic with a brushed metal effect like I believe the Zenfone 2 has), brand new 2.3GHz Kirin 935 CPU that's used in their upcoming £480 flagship, a good camera and one of, if not the best fingerprint readers out at the moment. Also, if it's like the Honor 6, it'll rarely be reduced below RRP... I believe it's always been around £240 - £249.99 at Amazon (apart from when it dipped to £150 when I bought it one time...which I think was a misprice). The only downside is no NFC, but then neither do the other options apart from the Note 4, but then that's a high end phone that'll cost ~£150 more! Once in that territory you may as well contemplate the S6, LG G4 or Mate 6!

Its hard not to open it so I gave in and its charging now. The charger is 2A 5V so we'll need to buy a more powerful one for speed charging. It comes with a screen protector preinstalled...it might be because its not a gorilla screen so I would not remove it if I were you guys. The camera on the back sticks out quite a lot so its best to buy a case to protect the phone methinks.

Everything is faster than the Y300. I literally bought this one a few years back when I shattered my S4's screen and it had rave reviews on HUKD. I bet that's why you got it as well lol. It was horribly slow compared to the S4 and I couldn't take it anymore after 1 week and I bought a £150 S4 screen and replaced it myself. The Y300 is still sitting here unused. Its so slow I don't even bring it to the gym as a countdown timer.

How many £209 phones get over 50000?

NFC was not a deal breaker for me, but lack of updates could have been, my nexus 4 which is 3 years old and has a newer version of android than the honor 7 now, is still going strong and truth be told I don't really need a new phone.

I have a feeling the new Nexus 5 might be a bit more than that, may be wrong though.
After using the Huawei Honor 4X for about 6 months I got excited yesterday when it said there was an update available (first one since owning it). It updated the EMUI but not Android so still on 4.4.2. I guess software updates are good and bad. So many phones are worse after a big update, looking on the bright side with a Huawei if the phone runs ok at least you know it likely always will as there won't be any updates!

Agreed. Too many people think Android updates are the same as iOS where it's a pretty big thing for the phone and always makes an improvement. But in reality it couldn't be any more different. Apple know exactly what hardware they are working on and can have it optimized before release... but with Android there's so many different combinations of hardware and early adopters of the update are pretty much the beta testers (just look at the issues people had with LP 5.0!). Hell, my favourite version was Gingerbread back 4-5 years ago! From there on the battery drain has just gotten worse and worse...

I have a friend who came from an iPhone and bought the Honor 6 when it was mispriced @ ~£150 not long after release. He ended up selling it a month later and paid more for a lesser spec'd used Nexus because he just couldn't wait for Lollipop. I just really don't understand the logic of that at all!

Hoo-ah-way :stuck_out_tongue:

More than likely, but they won't be quick to adopt it. Perhaps 6 months after release when bugs are ironed out...

You might have needed to set those apps to 'allow autostart' in phone manager, or lock them in memory. Emui allows granular control over things like app permissions unlike other phones sold in the west. I've been using an honor phone for months now without any issues. It is a drastic departure from other android skins so I guess it would take a while to get used to and some may never take to it.

I'm not sure what/where it is exactly in emui 3.1, but it is somewhere in the phone manager. Either notification area, or power saving. There should be options to allow apps running when screen is off, and allow them to auto start. To lock an app in memory, once it is open, go to recent apps and slide down on it.

As an aside, our honor 6 got some moisture inside (from sweat when inside clothing against skin on a power walk...) Haven't collected mine from the locker yet so can't check but you could try go to sim settings and see if there's an option to disable the 2nd sim slot.
Berty_Baron
9 Sep 15 1 #497
It's not enabled. It's Called "Dual Card Management" and Sim Card 1 is Active and Sim 2 says "No Sim Card" and ghosted out so settings cannot be changed.

Looks like we'll have to wait and see what they plan on doing with it with a future update.

Surprised you've let it sit in the Locker for so long. I was even late for a meeting with my boss because I wanted to collect it.

Hi, I just purchased an honor 7 silver, arrived last week. Now I have intermittent sound fault, whereby I cannot hear the other person but they can hear me, it just started few hours ago. What is going on? Does anyone have this problem, I though I did something, so factory reset but still the same problem. Now I am testing it by dailing 150, where I cannot hear the operator

Hi Amjama
I get the same thing as you now (as of today i.e. after I have 2 SIM's in) which is weird...they can hear me but I cannot hear them...occasionally it works ok though too! What network are you on...might be that possibly or having 2 SIMs?
Berty_Baron
10 Sep 15 #510
Okay there are some issues with the OS or something.

(1) The Sim Error notification(which isn't an error) is just annoying. I'm in the middle of e-mails with them currently.
(2) Google Play Services keeps crashing(using the app picture of Google Music but actually the play store) so you have to uninstall and reinstall the play store. Up to 3 times a day currently. I'm downloading a new ROM right now to flash the ROM and start again.

The Play store thing is very very annoying because the store just basically stops working.

Tonywlee, I only have one SIM card, I am with EE, I tried restarting, sometimes it works 3 out of 10 perhaps like 2 even! Is there a bug or is honor 7 faulty! What network are you with?
supertl
10 Sep 15 #513
I'm with EE and Three. Restarting has no effect as it did not work and then same guy called me back and it worked...I thought it was the speaker but now not sure...do you think we should ask support or send back?
supertl
10 Sep 15 #515
By the way quick note to anyone who tries to put 'three' network in the second nano sim slot will not get it to work which would explain some of the messages here earlier. Three do not offer 2G signal in UK and as that is only one available on 2nd slot.... you need to pick another network...grrrr!

10 Sep 15 #519
I was googling the issue a bit and many people reported the same thing on almost every brand phone. Earphones were mentioned in that they can cause the phone to get stuck in the wrong mode. Will see if I can find any possible solution. I'd say its a software bug and will be sorted in the next udpate.

10 Sep 15 #520

I've downloaded 4 different version(different release variants) and none of them will install onto the device. Won't get passed 1%.

To those of us who are waiting for our 'Mystery Grey' Honor 7 devices, or Flip Cover cases, I've been advised (as mentioned in an earlier comment) that the stock will arrive for both on 14th September.
I didn't order a Flip Cover case initially but managed to get one added to my phone order to save paying for delivery on this.

Have been umming and ahhing (sp?) on this phone for ages as ideally I need a decent spec device that is dual-sim and can take an SD card (I'm from the old school and have never really 'got' streaming music)
I know that this can only officially work in sim/sd or sim/sim configuration but have seen the Chinese forums where people have managed to glue the sim chip onto the SD card, I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried or will be trying this.
Otherwise I *may* wait for the Xperia M5 Dual, but looks like it may be difficult to get hold of and initial reports suggest that it will be at least £350, and it is difficult to justify an extra £150 or so just so I don't have to use a separate phone for work...

Last point - my wife has an Honor Holly (remember that thread, with the amaaazing animated GIF at the top.... might just have to go and have a look at that one again.... :man: ) and the GPS on that is absolutely appalling, unusable as a sat-nav. I have the same issues on my current Elephone P6000. I know these both run on Mediatek SoC's which are known to have poor GPS compatibility but as the Honor 7 is running on Kirin can anyone please confirm how accurate the GPS/sat nav is on these, as this is something of a deal breaker.

Cheers

All these issues are making me think twice I had or still have the honor 6 and it is was a amazing device it was just the build quality compared to my previous phones and I do like metal on my phones. I have had quite a few phones and I was really surprised by how good the honor was. The other thing that was mentioned was lack of 3g support on the 2nd sim as iam with 3 if i do leave the country and need to put my 3 sim in the 2nd sim card slot it won't work thus defeating the object

Won't be trying the dual sim, micro sd hack anytime soon. Good to know there's the option of doing this though and doesn't look too difficult to do.

Highly recommend downloading an app called MixRadio. Been using it for years previously on windows phone and basically you can either listen to a steamed mix of tracks or download the mix for offline use all for free. Great sound quality, way to discover new music, and you can rate the tracks you listen to so the app learns your tastes etc.

Haven't tried the GPS properly yet but seemed pretty quick and accurate when opening maps briefly etc. Again another app I'd recommend from my Nokia days is Here maps - free offline maps, navigation etc

kunhadi to rob585
11 Sep 15 #533
Both slots are capable to support 4G/3G but not at the same time.

When slot-1 is 4/3G slot-2 will be 2G
When slot-2 is 4/3G slot-1 will be 2G

I guess any phone will not be able to do both slots emitting 4/3G signal "at the same time" otherwise the signals will interfere.each other.
ssjinzo to rob585
11 Sep 15 #535
Same here if only you could get get one sim running 4g and the other 3g or dual 3g but 2g mean my sim won't even run on the phone making dual sim option on this sim useless

GPS seems ok so far but have not ventured far from home but it did pick up my location indoors. I tried to practise the SIM mod by trying to lift of the metal plate from SIM with heat (gently from a lighter!) last night and it was really tricky so gave up. Anyone else tried it?
rob585
11 Sep 15 #538
but from my limited understanding three network do not have a 2g signal thus if my EE sim in slot one is using a 3g signal then my Three sim in slot two is useless...is this right?
supertl
11 Sep 15 #539
Yes you are right, You can only use one 'three' SIM in the phone at a time as they '3' cannot offer the 2G signal for calls. i.e. your phone is not on dual standby
rob585
11 Sep 15 #540
Thanks for that, is this the same for all dual sim phone?
supertl
11 Sep 15 1 #541
It appears all dual SIM Phones available (in the UK) allow one SIM to have 3G or 4G signal as there would be a conflict otherwise. Three network is therefore only able to operate in this 3G/4G slot, you would need another operator to us the 2G slot for calls and dual standby mode. Hope this makes sense!

Annoying Sim Card Notification Error - Temporary Fix

Translated from German

https://translate.google.ie/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.android-hilfe.de%2Fthema%2Fdeaktivierung-des-symbols-der-2-sim-bei-honor-7.714349%2F%23post-9171532&edit-text=&act=url

Basically:

Download App Quick Shortcut Maker, Install, Go to Settings and find com.android.settings.SignalIconStyle and change the settings in there. Instantly just removed the error from the screen. The inherent error, even though it's not an error(you just don't have a 2nd sim in your phone) is likely still buried in the background(later update for the OS will likely only cover up the error like the link above) but at least the error is now gone.

Also don't cheap out on an SD card. I did and true to form it's corruptible. I've bought the Sandisk EVO 32gb card which also showed up here on HUKD.

seems on forums that the charger is a lower amp than the 64gb device so although it can charge fast it won't. also the difference in time to charge is only 15mins so no big deal.

battery is good coming from my 5s in that by now it would be 80% but its 93%.

Arrived today and spent time re installing apps. A pain as it has the iphone method of displaying all apps and not having them hidden away. Took ages creating folders and grouping. Other than that - robust, durable phone with good screen quality. My Chinese case arrived Friday just in time too so all protected and ready to go..... once my micro sim arrives.

Got mine today, it replaces a Nexus 5, so far so good, it seems responsive enough and the build quality on first inspection is good. The fingerprint reader works very well, overall my first impression is good. All I need to do now is get a nano sim so that I can actually use it as a phone.

Mine arrived yesterday. Played with it all day and have no complaints! The build quality is great and its true that you do get a lot of phone for £210!!
Its only a little thing but the phone came pre-installed with a screen protector, its on perfectly and probably cost them pennies, but i dont understand why other phone companies dont do that? I mean they put a protective plastic sheet on the phones but you have to take that off because its just for show! Plus you pay an arm and a leg for these other phones!
I dont miss NFC as i've never used it before.
Can anyone recommend any decent cases? I like Spigen cases but dont think they'll do one for this!! Also anyone who has already got a tempered glass screen protector for this, does it cover the entire glass or just the screen? If its the entire glass, could you let me know where you got it from.
Does anyone else not receive icon notifications for whatsapp?

I was told last week that the phone and the Flip Cover would be in stock on Monday, and I was expecting delivery today.
Have just called them as the status is still "Awaiting Stock" and they've said that the shipment of cases did not arrive yesterday but they are delayed until Friday, and that there are no phones in stock, they expect more phones within 3-5 days.

Am starting to get a little pee'd off with this as I ordered on the 27th August, I was annoyed then that we'd have to wait for stock, I guess they didn't want to pre-empt the popularity of the phone or the number of orders they would get, but to be honest the whole thing has been a little bit amateurish.

ssjinzo to sanchez1st
15 Sep 15 #658
I am no camera expert but Its better than the old imx 214 sensors in the old phones which were 13mp this is the newer 220 at 20mp. I have a few phones with the mx 214 sensor and while the pictures are clearer on the honor 7 mx220 they are less saturated and don't pop as much but are more true to life. Iam not a picture expert or anything but at this price range you will struggle to find anything better. If course the LG g4 and the samsung s6 have the best sensors in any camera at the moment but they also cost more too
Berty_Baron
15 Sep 15 1 #659
The 20mp is 4:3 and the 15mp is 16:9 so for me I will use 15mp because its a fuller picture.

I like the iOS type App notification in that you get a number on the App Logo on the Homescreen if you've 1 message, 2 messages etc.

Apparently you can do this with the likes of Nova Launcher and Tesla Unread but it just won't work at all and doesn't show e-mails numbers. I get it on the top of the screen but I don't like it.

I know.
But it has faster benchmark on both performance and graphics, and slightly larger screen.
mamboboy
18 Sep 15 #703
It doesn't beat it on CPU performance. The Honor 7 actually has it beat in that department, but the OPO2 has slightly faster RAM (which will not be noticable) and a much better 3D graphics score (around 80% higher).

I, and I'm sure many others don't give two craps about games and if I do play them I'm not going to get disappointed because it's not running at 60 fps or something. I've got a gaming PC for that. Asphalt 8: Airborne ran absolutely perfect when I tried it, which is considered a pretty intensive game so IMO this phone is just fine. Who cares if some benchmark 3D 'gameplay' of a spinning box runs at 8 fps? You can't play it! And developers aren't going to make super-intensive games because they want to appeal to the mass market, and not just those with super 3D performing phones...

There's something huge that makes one of these phones a non purchase, and it's not GPU performance. It's the lack of expandable storage.
Bobbajob

I leave all my apps opened in background, wifi on, 4g on, even high accuracy gps on throughout the day and I still have enough juice until I sleep. Couldn't be happier with this phone. Just wish the 2nd sim slot don't have to double up as memory card and I don't fancy a diy to use both functions.

Most are just minor software bugs that are due to be fixed in an update... battery drain reports are either usage specific that would happen on any device or lollipops fault. You'll find plenty of complaints about the Nexus and Moto X also.

I think the battery bug is lollipop specific rather than down to this phone.
I think it kicks in when data connection is switched on and used and then switched off or WiFi kicks in, my phone has been restarted a few times but battery drain was still apparent.
Ive switched off data in background as per previous poster, and battery drain seems normal with mobile standby not the highest consumer of battery.

Well my battery life is pretty terrible. Mobile data is only turned on when I need it, GPS, Bluetooth, etc all disabled, but I'm looking at around 18-20% overnight drain. Compared to my H6 which was about 3%, it's very poor.

The thing is, Amplify/BetterBatteryStats don't show many bad Wakelock or Alarms causing the drain so it has to be something fundamentally wrong with Lollipop.

Huawei need to bring out an update or I may well return it in a couple of weeks.

Honor 6 is still on KitKat and manages 2 days on a charge quite easily, I think somehow the huawei phones on lollipop are triggering the known battery issue in lollipop.

Might be worth a call to the UK tech support to make then aware of the growing complaints, huawei are very keen to make a good impression in the UK and won't want this sort of bad press.

I purposely put all my apps in the protected apps so they don't close for Power Saving purpose. I thought that would stop whatsapp contacts from changing to phone numbers rather than keeping as names. After many days, it didn't work.
But even though all my apps are not turned off for power saving, I still last a whole day with gps on, 4g on, wifi on, and bluetooth on.

I personally hate the EMUI power saving feature (and the fact you can't disable it). Android does a great job of managing background apps, so IMO a third party app/feature working over the top of it just causes more problems than it fixes.
And it also messes with actual good power saving apps like Greenify which hibernates apps and uses GCM instead of constantly closing them all individually.

Thanks Matlock67, yeah I'm still waiting for someone in the UK to have tried and confirm or not that it works! I myself have tried to just remove the plastic surround from the SIM and had great difficulty just at this stage hence bought the OTG card as a workround. The main issue with this OTG solution is it sticks out of the bottom and could be knocked, broken or lost but at least it works for 128Gb card.

The most difficult part is the bonding (glue) process.
Since I used epoxy glue it took overnight (was pressed between rubber sheets under a heavy chair foot).

I carefully cleaned the excessive glue as well.

Notes: To avoid too much misalignment, at first I pressed it with fingers for 10 minutes until it began to be hardened but not fully hardened, just enough sticky set to avoid sliding away too much. Then I pressed it between rubber sheets under the chair foot overnight. The rubber sheets was 1mm thick, I made them from a large rubber band.

Can owners please elaborate on the following?
- GPS functionality with Sygic or Maps
- Battery issues (fast discharging due to Lollipop bug)
- The exact method you used to root the device (link would be helpful)

I'm looking to justify moving from my (still perfectly working and as new) Note 2 to this phone, but unless the above three things work as expected, I'd rather stay with the Note 2 or try the Nexus 6 (which I think will be too big) or LG G4.

Decisions, decisions...

The idle battery issues are a big annoyance for me. One thing I love doing with Android is trying to get the drain down as much possible with Greenify/Amplify, but the Lollipop drain bug means no end of optimizing doesn't really help at all - in 6 hours over night I went from 62% to 49% battery, which is shocking IMO. I initially thought disabling background mobile data fixed it, but I was wrong. My H6 drained about 2-3%. Never thought I'd say it... but I miss KitKat! I can honestly see me growing to hate the phone the longer Huawei take to fix it (which I doubt will happen til they update to MM in, what? 6 months? :disappointed: )

Rooting was simple (once they added the new batch of phones to the unlocking database).

Unlock the bootloader with this method:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62957890&postcount=42

And root with this one:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/general/how-to-root-honor-7-t3170735

There is no Xposed framework for the CPU at the moment (to my knowledge - as I tried the one suggested manually and it soft bricked it) which means most useful rooted things can't be done at the moment any ways. Pretty much the only thing I've needed for root was Titanium Backup.

Hmm, nothing for me? I hope unlocking the bootloader didn't mess it up. Can't be bothered manually installing a full ROM every update :disappointed:
I think it depends on the user really. Bobba says he's fine with the phone lasting a day (which I assume is ~12-14 hours?) with moderate usage, but I personally find what amounts to 25% idle drain (i.e. if you never touched the phone) with mobile data off in 12 hours pretty shocking, especially given Huawei's 350 hours standby time claim.... there's certainly some underlying problem going on there.

Actually using the phone the battery life is great, it's just when idle, which is a software problem and not hardware...

Re: Update. I've no update but I've messed around previously and unlocked the bootloader so could be that or just further down the line waiting for the update.

Re: Battery. I'm a heavy browser on my phone between 8am and 6pm and often by 12pm I'm well below 50%. By 12pm now I'm only about 70% with the Honor 7 so I'm happy with it. I've just switched ALL my Apps to unrestricted so they won't be switched/closed when the screen is locked so we'll see now what happens.

I get around 3 to 4 % drain over night with nothing on apart from mobile calls. I usally use the phone for browsing and watching video no gaming a few calls text and what's app. I use mix wifi as well as mobile data. Some days mostly wifi and some days mostly data. On days with data i get around 3 to 3 and half hours screen on time and that last me most of the day with wifi I get around less than 5 hours on mix useage I get around 4 ish hours some times a little less and some times a little more. It lasts me the day no problem but I will definitely need a charge by the end of the day the honor 6 on the other hand gave me more and I could well use it on the 2nd day to give me at least half a day more

28 Sep 15 #806
As

As Mammaboy says, it depends what you are used to.

My Nexus used to struggle to last until bed time despite being on charge in the car on the way to and from work, and struggled past 2 hours screen time.

I easily get a full day from 8am until midnight and have seen 4 hours screen on time.

If you're used to getting two days then it will be a let down.

It's hard for me to comment on normal usage as most days I will use it as a satnav with it plugged in.

Today I took it off charge when I got to work with full battery. Hammered it with spotify for probably about 4 hours which has used 26% of the battery. Screen has only been on 1 hour, and put it on charge on the way home while it was satnavving, used it a bit since got home and it's now at 70%.

My Nexus 5 would have been at about 20% by now and I would have probably have had to put it on charge at work too.

Easy enough to do, just copy the dload folder to the root of your SD and select local update from the Updater. I did have to change back to the stock recovery though.

Root doesn't seem seem to be available at the moment.

Idle drain seemed to be better - I believe it was 8-9% overnight as opposed to 21-22% before.

EDIT: Huawei support got back to me about the drain as well. They suggested disabling the touch/draw features in settings > smart assistance.
Does kinda make sense, especially if there's a bug with 'double touch to turn screen' stopping the phone from properly sleeping or something.

Yea, my seemingly better battery life was short lived as I'm now I'm back to ~21% idle drain during 7 hours standby.

I'm more than likely going to phone vmall Monday and ask for a refund or replacement because I don't think it's acceptable given their standby claim. It's about 5 times worse than the drain on my honor 6 - the annoying thing is I don't think it's hardware related, and given Hauwei's update turnaround time I can't see it being fixed for a long time, probably not until they upgrade to Marshmallow :/

Mama,
At night have you tried to disable mobile data then do a reboot, you can leave WiFi on then check in the morning what the battery drain has been. My ebay sale fell through so I'm keeping my 7, last night it drained about 5% in 7 hours overnight. I think the battery drain whilst idle is when mobile data has been used, it does not switch off properly even if data is switched off, only a reboot stops it.

well that's turd. manually updated to b121 and lost 21% battery and phone turned off about 7am this morning! i left WiFi on and I can see the phone was awake all that time in the battery stats. that never happened on the previous ROM. anyone had the same thing?

Anyone knows how to change the default alarm ringtone on the clock alarm?
Thks
subzero1234 to kunhadi
14 Oct 15 #849
Click into the alarm, it will have the ringtone option.
Same when you create a new alarm.
Bobbajob
14 Oct 15 #850
I updated manually from the Mega link provided on the previous page.

If the question is where did they get the B121 update from, it is downloaded to the phone as part of the update process, but if you don't carry on with the update it can be found in a download folde and shared from there.

It is deleted once the update is complete.
kunhadi

I am afraid this Huawei "Clock" doesn't have option of Notification. Only when I create new alarm it asks for ringtone.
Bobbajob
15 Oct 15 #852
I don't understand your question.
The alarm ringtone is set when you set an alarm. The clock doesn't have a notification.

If you have an alarm set you can click it and change the notification.
subzero1234
15 Oct 15 #853
I cancelled the case and ordered this one instead
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015A1U18Y/?tag=ho01f-21
Seems decent, I find the notification light a bit dull, so clear screen would be the best.

Kunhadi, you must have a different phone than everyone else or you don't know what you want to know.

Looking to order the phone this coming Wednesday, I cannot see where to add it to my basket. the fantasy silver is "ordered on request" and the mystery grey is "in stock". Neither phone I can add to my basket. Am I missing the obvious?
Also is the official smart case worth buying or is the nillkin flip smart case a better purchase? Thanks, Matt :sunglasses:
Jetset1981 to mattu
27 Oct 15 #866

I've got the Nilkin black case. it's not actually black at all but silver and glittery!! It doesn't stay closed and is already showing cracks and wear within a month. You also don't get full smart view features. Was going to order the official but didn't want to delay the dispatch of phone as out of stock. Delivery is to expensive to justify getting now but hopefully will come to eBay or Amazon so I can get shut of the Nilkin. The seller I got off offers zero support wise also. Just ignore your emails.
Graham35
26 Oct 15 #864
Matt, I think you can only buy it on the 28th not before and not after - only in the short window of time at the discount price
mattu
26 Oct 15 #865
Ok thanks Graham, so I'll be able to add it to the basket at midday then I'm hoping? saw a post earlier showing someone had added it to their basket but they were waiting for the code to go live before purchase.
Jetset1981

29 Oct 15 #870
Good morning, yes I managed to get one after a 25 minute panic over the code not working! I took the chance and went for the full price option. Had to ring about 2 hours later after I received my order confirmation and get the discount applied. They were more than happy to add the code manually but informed me that I couldn't order the smart case as it was OOS, a note has been put on the account so that I can hopefully order one minus the postage charge when they're back in stock. Should receive it Friday with a bit of luck :sunglasses:

I never did get my two phone case's, they are showing more than 10 in stock but when you click on them they say 'sold out'

they are also saying - 13/11/2015 at 15:14 Sent email - Card declined at processing, I have not received any email from them (checked spam box)

Never, ever had my card declined!

So I guess someone else might get my covers, or maybe they don't/didn't actually have any stock

Anyone else had a cover delivered from Vmall recently.

OK, am very happy with my Honor 7 except for a few niggles. For some reason it seems to randomly ring people from my contacts, has been doing it for about a week now and at first I though it was me but after leaving it on the side for 5 minutes I returned to discover that it was in the process of dialling someone. I've turned voice wakeup off so it can't be that. Any ideas?

Goto settings - Power saving - go down to protected apps - allow Whatsapp to keep running after the screen is turned off.
mamboboy
11 Jan 16 #899
Yep. I personally allow all of the apps I use to keep running. It's a well known fact that Android doesn't need apps constantly closing down to save power... it actually uses more power reopening them all the time. The battery saving feature is one thing I really hate about EMUI - the power manager service keeps my phone awake for 3-4 hours overnight and I can't find a fix. So annoying :disappointed:

How have you found the Marshmallow?

No, nothing's changed, at least on mine.

Looks like it is now officially on the UK website.
They released a new 5.0.2 android lollipop C432B180. I have downloaded that, can't really see much change. Marshmallow (29.03.2016) is on there but I heard there's issues with the fingerprint scanner.. Is that still the case?
