Had call today from three asking if they could make my contract cheaper … was pay £15 for 4gb data and unlimited text and calls. I travel quite a bit so the use the Feel at Home regularly which is great service.
They have offered to match my contract, but knock off £3 a month, but I am tied in now for 12 months. As I have no intention of moving from 3 (and will be buying new handset out right) think that this is a good deal for me and may be useful for others who call three and ask for the same deal?

Got the same deal but for £9 per month - 12 month contract. Unlimited call and text and 4gb data.
I had to push hard though and first tier retention can't offer it. You need to reject and insist you want a pac code and they will put you through to 2nd tier detentions who will give you a pac code or offer you a even better deal.
I initially accepted the £12 deal same allowances as above. The next day my dad gets t offered a better deal for £9 at EE although with 3GB data.
I called three back, told them I wasn't happy with the deal they offered the day before and as it was within the 14 day notice period I wanted to cancel. They wouldn't offer a better deal so asked for a pac code to which they then transferred me to the 2nd tier retentions who quickly offered to match with 4GB data. Happy with result but took me a few hours lol getting it.

I was able to get this after refusing two offers from the CS guy. First he offered me a plan without a discount, then he offered me this for £14 and eventually, after mentioning that if the don't offer me something good for £12 I would have to ask for the PAC code, he obliged
Thanks OP.

I had this chat with a credit card person once when I was a student. According to him, if you go and apply at those promotional booth things they have at stations they dont bother credit checking everyone because of the sheer number of applications they have. This was 30 odd years ago and I expect that has changed but some similar reason why you didnt get checked for your Virgin phone.

maybe a silly question but ive seen members mention tethering on here on top of the unlimited data.
I was under the impression that tethering another device to use the data off the phone just used the data allowance. does the provider charge extra for doing this?

I have two monthly rolling one plan sims (£15/month each) and luckily have not been booted off.How do they choose which customers to get rid off? Is it the tethering? I very rarely tether on one of the sims (less than 1GB per month) and never on the other one (used by my wife)...it feels like a waste not to use the tether but we do not need it

That's the danger isn't it when they look at your account and tell YOU what you need! I usually end up backing down  I gave up waiting at lunchtime, 20 minutes and no answer, but I was ringing from a landline. I find you always get through quicker ringing off your mobile.
Tonight I'm just going to say I'd use more if I had more - if that makes sense. If I end up getting an extra 3GB and unlimited minutes for 10p I'll be amazed but it's worth the call...

I got at the moment 4gb unlimited min on a monthly rolling contract for £16 which I think isn't bad. I'm replying to your question just to say mainly on three they give you almost always the deals on their website. When asking my PAC code for the 2nd time the lady tried her best but I kept telling her that the deal she was giving me wasn't good enough for me until she put me on hold, talked to her boss then proposed me this one because I've been with 3 for nearly 3 years. The first time I requested the PAC I only received deal posted on their website. Hope you get some luck...

I requested and received the PAC right after I called and threatened to cancel. However, I received the follow-up call with the better offer at around mid-day the next day and took it in person. It was at 12 though, so you could always hope you're on a lunch break?

Yes, I got a better deal just an hour ago. I called up the renewal team yesterday and was offered nothing worthwhile, so asked for PAC code. Today received a call from a separate retention team offering 4GB, unlimited minutes and unlimited texts for £10/month.
Absolutely doable, this deal - you just have to threaten to cancel by requesting a PAC. If you don't use the code, you won't end your contract.

No way to use skype and other voip apps. I have tried to switch between networks : orange, movistar and yoigo . I could see 4g on the screen but connection so slow. I was in Fuerteventura two weeks ago and done a speed test a few times and got about 10Mbps regularly.
I think they must only allocate a certain amount of bandwith to 3 so the more people logged onto the masts data the slower the connection.
TV streaming apps (Netflix , Filmon)totally refused to work and were blocked but I was able to tether to an Android tablet without any problems even though they say it was not allowed.
Viber , Watsapp and Skype worked perfectly.

Bottom line: In the smartphone/WhatsApp/Facetime/Viber age, all that matters is 4G Data on your contract price - everything else is just shovelled in to excess, to sweeten the deal
Last month, I took an online Voda 'upgrade' bundle offer of Ultd mins, texts and 6Gb 4G data, 12 month contract, £24 per month. Not great, except it includes 12 months Spotify Premium, which I love and cherish and would always pay for, so effectively £14/month for me.

I didn't have any joy getting a retention deal with Three. They went through all the sim only offers that were available on their website but tried to sell it as a unique offer to me! I switched to EE but I find EE's coverage is variable. EE 4G is generally good, usually much faster than Three (in London) in my experience. However, 4G coverage is patchy and I often don't get data when on 3G. Three on the other hand was consistent, albeit it slower than EE.

I was on an old 1GB / 200 mins for £10/month.
Did you take the call in person? This might be a bit hit n' miss for me unfortunately because I'm unable to take calls during the day... I doubt they'd leave a message :stuck_out_tongue:
I must get round to calling them tomorrow! Can I ask what package you were on before?
I've run out of time today, I think their CS close at 8, but I will definitely put some time aside tomorrow to make enquires. I don't know about you but this 'deal' would be perfect for me!
Absolutely doable, this deal - you just have to threaten to cancel by requesting a PAC. If you don't use the code, you won't end your contract.
can you tell me some tips so i could get a better deal from the retention people
I currently pay £16 on a 1 month rolling contract but only have 4GB which I can tether on top of unlimited min. Wish I can pay £1 more and be able to use unlimited data. Might give them a call
unlimited data (not sure if tethering is included, I have never tried and don't need it),
unlimited texts,
250 mins and
2000 3 to 3 mins
Been on this for nearly 2 years. I'm tempted to ring to see if I can get any better deal.

Still with Three - 200 min, unlimited texts, unlimited data. (usually use around 10G+ per month - no tethering)
£11.90 per month
Old monthly contract of 12 months - £6.90 + £5 data add-on

Last month, I took an online Voda 'upgrade' bundle offer of Ultd mins, texts and 6Gb 4G data, 12 month contract, £24 per month. Not great, except it includes 12 months Spotify Premium, which I love and cherish and would always pay for, so effectively £14/month for me.
2000 mins
unlimited texts
5GB 4G
For £11.99 12 months contract. Hope this helps for someone who lives in area with poor 3 signal
Way too expensive but I like the network and the roaming as im a way a bit.
This deal for about £23/25 would clinch for me but no luck yet.
Never heard of a company phoning you to help save you money
Their loss!
I am good with haggling so ended up getting £13 knocked off the £30 contract.
Actually three and virgin rolling contract tariffs are pretty similar
They've never called me, probably not enough of a customer, but I think I might give them a shout tomorrow. Do I need to threaten to leave etc?

I'm on this at £15 a month but rolling via retentions, but I'm not sure locking in for 12 months is worth a saving of £3.
I rang them, to cancel as they wasn't offering the best galaxy s6 offers. Told them I was thinking about buying the phone outright and going on pay as you go. They looked into how many minutes, texts and internet I use. (I preferred unlimited internet as I was on the one plan before, but they wouldn't give me that for under £25) They mentioned that I have never used more than 4gb in a month and this is perfect for me. I can cap it also. I decided not to cap it, I have never been over my allowance yet, that's in 2 bill cycles so far. So I'm quite happy!
I rang them to cancel my contract after 24 months of having my galaxy s4..
