Had to look that up. Seems to be a dye extracted from insects that have a short life span. Why wouldn't a vegetarian want to eat that? Not vegan myself, just pure interest really.

I'm not vegetarian either but normally someone always asks is it suitable for vegetarians on sweets posts, also some people dont like the thought of eating insects so just giving notice.
E120 Cochineal Bug = Crushed Cochineal Insects = Crushed/Sloughtered Animals = Not Suitable For Vegetarians.

That's why I'm asking ... for what reasons? I'm pretty sure non-vegans wouldn't want to eat bug too. Point is I guess, if it's ethical reasons... then the dye is more than likely used elsewhere .. lipstick was one that stood out in what I was reading. What about clothing? Leather shoes etc. Animal products, insect by products are all utilised ..it's only in food it is broken down to a lower level of ingredients ... I don't have a problem with those that choose a lifestyle of vegan due to not wanting to use 'killed' animals in their things .. but, because it's not on a label somewhere that makes it all ok then? Had andreocean not mentioned it, and I was a vegan, I'd have scoffed it up without a worry. No offense to your post if it looks that way. Oh! And plants have feelings too - So science says :stuck_out_tongue:
I'll nope out of this one .. it's as much a religious debate in the end. Sorry, no offense all, my views, as per yours.
