Thanks bengalknights. I am in North London. So at least I know some branches do have them! Have you bought and tried the rice? Is it OK? I did try the gold and liked it very much.

Ive got the rice (and always purchas in bulk when on offer)
If your after Tilda quality then this rice isnt that (Amira Gold is more Tilda) its more of the qualty and fragrance similar to Laila and Badshah
However one thing this rice does really do is expand in a similar manner to Tilda

Been to 3 stores but none have them though the offer is still on. Anyone know that they are still in stock anywhere??

i would, prefer thai rice with everything, really dont like Basmati, and a lot of people prefer other types of long grain rice.
you can also get basmati in 5/10/20kg bags in the asian supermarkets, far better than amira, and as good a value.
keep rice in 10L food storage containers, have lids and handles (from dunelm). after months, no mites at all. If eggs were present when the rice was processed and packaged, heat can make them hatch, so just keep it away from heat, not in the cupboard beside oven for a start, and you should be fine.
even with mites, they usually just die, so just make sure to wash rice first before cooking

How is this compared to Amira Gold - for those who have tried both? I have tried the Amira Gold and loved it. Not sure about this one.

The fragrance on gold is stronger and more flavoured.
However for this price you cant go wrong on these

i have tried these rice before, they ok. not great.but for price you cant argue.
Tilda and Kohinoor platinum are different league all together. imo it is always worth paying little extra for good quality rice. in comparison per serving it is only few pence extra.

Great rice for the price, if you want something extra special though you have to try the gold bagged Amira rice... Out of this world, and only the same as Tilda on price, but much better quality.

Assuming you mean rice, thai rice is completely different to basmati. Stickier and more starchy and a very different fragrance. You wouldn't normally eat Thai rice in a dish that is usually for basmati, such as an indian style curry.
The same way that you wouldn't eat a decent curry with chips... Oh wait.
Also, i would councel against buying too much rice. If you take more than a few months to eat it, and unless you can guarantee an air-tight seal, it will likely get infested with mites.
If you've had rice at home in any kind on non-fully-sealed container, check out the very bottom, among the dust. You are very likely to have mites without realising it. I'm not usually that fussy and will eat cheese knowing it's infested with cheese mites. But when their big enough to see easily, that a little more protein than i care for.

These big bags are never in my Morrison's (Lincoln), in fact the entire international section is pigeon holed over 2 or 3 small shelves :disappointed:

I bought it when it was £10 for 10kg and there was no basmati fragrance at all.

I bought some and really enjoyed it. Slighty harder texturea than Kohinoor Platinum but at half the price I cant complain...
