Before everyone blasts off and moans at me I'm after a dongle that will mirror everything from my android tablet not just approved programs like a Chromecast does. So for me a Chromecast is not what I want, I want a dongle that will mirror everything.
So been looking and there is a lot of cheap crap out there that is very poor. I came across this one, seems pretty good and reviews on Amazon/7dayshop are very good.
I can't test it because I'm currently away from home but doesn't the chromecast have a mirroring option in the app to mirror everything that's on screen anyway?

Its device specific

So even though the 2012 Nexus 7 can't mirror its screen due to hardware limitations so how this device will work?

For what it's worth I got a Measy miracast dongle from Futeko for use with a win8 tab. I found it to be very frustrating. Don't know if it was the device or the tech that was poor though.

You can mirror everything on your phone/tablet by selecting the "cast screen" option on the Chromecast app.
I've had the Chromecast for a good few months now & I have to say its a lot easier to use & more convenient than my smart TV, PlayStation and even the the roku.

I have had a few sumvision items, a no nonsense DVD player and a general purpose media player with Ethernet. both have been cheap but feel well made and neither have let me down over many years use.

Chromecast only supports full mirroring on certain devices below kitkat. For kitkat there is screen mirroring in beta.

So am I right to say this is the correct device to mirror say streaming/showbox etc?

As previously mentioned, Chromecast can do this but is device specific. I have a note 3 and original note 10.1 - both work but can be temperamental at times.

You won't be able to mirror everything. Certain apps such as 4od have some type of protection which prevents you from mirroring it!
I have the same problem on a Dell monitor I recently purchased. It doesn't have a HDMI connection, so I purchased a HDMI>DVI adapter which broke the HDCP secure connection.
Trying to move 4OD from my Windows tablet screen to the Dell screen instantly breaks the connection and pulls up a warning.
Yet another reason why I don't like 4OD

Cold. Had one and it is laggy and crap.

So that device isn't breaking the HDCP? You'll need more than a splitter.

I need a micro HDMI to DVI cable for it to work properly (or so I have been told). However, since I already have a functional micro>full HDMI, I'm happy to just use my cheap 50p HDMI>DVI adapter and forgo using 4OD

chromcast doesn't transmit sound when mirroring the screen - does this?

Mine does.

Chromecast does transmit sound. Or at least it does with Showbox films.

I know my NowTV app refuses to work over OTG. Will this make any difference (kitkat 4.4).
Also, will this work on Windows computers?
Finally, Im guessing this is too laggy for gaming right? That probably goes for all wireless connections though

Shame it doesn't have AirPlay but I guess for the price can't complain!

can this be used on a corporate network does anyone know? do you need to go through a wireless network to talk to it or does it connect directly?

I cannot see any details whether it is dual-band, etc. A good Miracast dual-band receiver like the Netgear costs about 2x but does not need any apps and also works with Intel's WiDi - might be worth investing in. They all have issues but Netgear is at least been providing updates

The Microsoft miracast dongle gets excellent reviews and can be had for about £35 from a US seller on Amazon. Normal price is around £60.

Could I mirror Skygo from my laptop to my tv with this?

You would save yourself money by just using a HDMI cable, and also have lag/glitch free performance...(though obviously lose the convenience of the wifi connection).
There are v.few devices that live up to the promise of miracast...and judging by the reviews, this Sumvision dongle isn't one of them.
I am personally just sticking with an extra long HDMI cable until such time as the Microsoft miracast dongle drops in price

There's a difference between casting and mirroring casting works by pressing the cast button in screen like you get on YouTube and bbciplayer and very often ghe video will then be streamed directly from the service to your chromecast, Mirroring actually mirrors the phones display exactly as it appeara on the phone and is streamed from thw phone directly to chromecast device in your tv, my phone becomes warm when doing this as it working hard to transmit the data, i can cast virtually anything on screen including movie streaming sites, news articles and recipes and even farm heros saga game but i have encountered the block 4od/all4 has put on which wony let you stream it somehow detects it the mean beans! Anyway if it helps the phone i have is a cheap moto g lte on kitkat and i love chromecast its great for most things when you get the hand of it try casting with the camera on your phone you can use it as a cctv/spy device too! Lol

Check the chromecast compatability list to see if your device is supported for mirroring first to be on the safe side useful info on chromecast mirroring

Might be best to try it on a friends chromecast before you buy one or do some research as i dont know about asus memo pads or if it will work with the method in the link somehow its all up to you to find out. All the best hope you get it working.

Thanks, annoyingly I don't know anyone with one, we all have Apple TV's, I wanted to venture out and try the android market. If my tablet had a hdmi connection I would of just gone down that road but it hasn't unfortunately.
I know my memo pad supports mirroring as it has the option too, but knowing what to go for is the question
Suppose I could buy a Chroecast and return to store if it does not do what I require it too
Any idea if this will mirror Cartoon HD from an iPhone 4s? Thanks is advance

His laptop might not have HDMI though, but I agree a cable solution beats any wireless solution for stability.

If it doesn't have HDMI, then I would be very surprised if it has the hardware capable of running miracast.
Speaking of which, I was actually surprised to find out that my Baytrail (Z3740) tablet is actually more capable of miracasting than a Surface Pro 2. It basically looks like a constantly evolving technology where the various partners are gradually improving things to the point where they actually work properly. However, for most people, miracast just won't work particularly well.
So far, the Microsoft miracast adapter seems to be the one that offers by far the best performance (near enough lag free from the reviews I have read). However, it is prohibitively expensive, especially when compared to a HDMI cable that has no performance issues.
Personally, I would sooner buy from Amazon when getting something like this. They are far easier to deal with when it comes to returns.

I looked in to Miracast and other casting dongles e.g. EZCast and decided on Chromecast, which is a bit flaky sometimes but works, although device dependent.

6 Apr 151#43
Yep, the Chromecast works well -- but for me, it is too limited. I essentially want an extended second screen with no casting limitations. Obviously this is far better suited to Windows devices where the multi-screen support is a core part of the OS. Unfortunately, the drivers that power miracast are still not quite there yet .
If only Microsoft charged a little less for their accessories.

The only solution I know of is a laptop under the telly using a SCART cable. I'm convinced that the Roku 4OD app only shows a small selection of 4OD programmes.

You can also Download the app CastBox which plays much better than the Mirroring for Chromecast app in my Case, FYI =)

That's correct, the DVI will removed the protection. I used to do this for my PS3 for recording with an Elgato HD in full 1080p.

Can't be bothered with "casting" nor really see much reason too. Got an Android box and one of the Amazon Fire TV sticks on the way. Only thing would be for showing pics/vids from my phone camera but then again my tellys all got DLNA for that. Or sync to Picassa and view that way.

We've got an Asus Memo Pad 7 (ME176CX) and just as a test for you, I connected it to our Chromecast and was able to cast the screen OK. However, the image shown on the TV is not full screen. Tried Showbox and it's the same, in that the image does not completely fill the TV screen horizontally (yet it's fine on the tablet's screen).
This is the first time I've tried the Asus Memo Pad with the Chromecast. I normally use the Chromecast with my Samsung S4, where the above issues do not exist.

Presumably, if you are mirroring a screen, it will likely default to the resolution of the tablet.
So, assuming this Memopad thing is 720P, and the TV is 1080P, I guess there's a good chance that it will only use 720p's worth of space.
*(I have no idea how Android works with such things...but it seems to make sense in my mind  )

Yep. The TV is 1080p. But I've just now tried it on our kitchen TV which is HD ready and again it's not full screen when casting from the tablet.
