I just wanted to spread a bit of Easter cheer with everyone as I've recently done this with all my friends and it's the cheapest option to get 2For1 for the whole year.
In short - Meerkat Movies works with travel policies.
If you go onto compare the market, Choose a [SINGLE] [UK] travel policy, for the any day in the month for [ONE] day, no extras etc, you can get a quote for [£1.37]! ERV LITE - simply go through and purchase it, and you get sent your policy documents, log in to Compare the Market, and follow the Claim Meerkat Movies process and away you go!
12 Months of Meerkat Movies for £1.37... Can't really complain when Orange Wednesdays use to cost 35p a text.
Enjoy the Movies!
There is the chance to work and No purchase necessary! I got a quote and filled in my details. I think went to account (top right), requested a password (link sent via email). Once I had created a password, I clicked Meerkat Movies. I filled in fake details of a purchase (I picked travel, with any company and then lots of numbers for policy number) and hey presto I had a code for today. [However they do reserve the right to cancel membership and they may at a later date introduce certain terms on spend so may be best to purchase policy]
Slightly unethical so £1.37 is still a great price for those that would rather do it right and make a purchase.
- wordsworth
FAQ:
What happens if I cancel my policy?
If you cancel your policy or comparethemarket.com are unable to verify your qualifying purchase or switch, we reserve the right to revoke your MEERKAT MOVIES membership. We will of course let you know about this, a month in advance of it being revoked.
- wordsworth
If you're reading this, please vote this post up. The info in Top Comment posts above is now out of date. Thanks!
-----------------------------UPDATE 4:15pm 14th April: READ IN FULL BEFORE ORDERING------------------------------------------
Don't have time to do a posh write-up of these updated notes and instructions, but the latest info crudely and in brief:
-This offer is still valid and the guide attached still works, but if at the final stage you can't enter your policy number on Meerkat Movies, you need to message CtM direct via the website. People report that they receive a response confirming eligibility, and are then getting access to their codes within approx 48 hours.
It would appear that Compare the Market's continued obligation is to honour the deal, but that they have created this extra step in the mean time to slow the number of cheap claims being made.
-The attached guide is for ERV insurance, but if you find it's unavailable, any provider will do. Price varies.
-Be sure you haven't already purchased something from Compare the Market, as your Meerkat Movies membership may already have begun, even if you haven't started claiming voucher codes. If you're unsure just sign in to CtM and try to access Meerkat Movies.
-Situation is fluid, check recent posts first!
end of update-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step by step guide
Wrote this earlier for some email pals, please vote up to top comments if it's useful.
Big thanks to OP!
1. Register a free account at http://www.comparethemarket.com/
-Top right; 'Sign in'
-'Forgotten Password'
-Add your email address to create account
-Verify and log in
2. Find the cheapest insurance offer available on the site
-'Let's start comparing..' 'Travel Insurance'
-Travelling UK, for one day, just me, no extras.
-Search
3. Choose 'ERV Insurance' cover for £1.37
-Redirect to their site, pay by Visa/Mastercard
-Receive your insurance docs by email
-Copy your policy number "ERVCTMXXXXX"
4. Claim your first cinema voucher code at http://www.comparethemarket.com/
-Direct link: https://meerkat-movies.comparethemarket.com/membership
-Field one, choose 'ERV'
-Field two, paste your policy number
-Done! Log on each week to receive a new code.
------------------------------
Why not just do it the free way?
Better to pay the £1.37 to guarantee your voucher codes for the year, since Meerkats will almost certainly withdraw the offer from those who have fabricated policy numbers.
(thanks Chanchi32)
Why can't I see a policy offer for £1.37?
It seems there is a variation in price for some users, £2-4, which may be based on age and/or location, or availability. Just choose the next cheapest option - it won't affect your Meerkat Movies eligibility.
The Meerkat Movies page seems to be down, is the deal expired?
The site has been down a couple of times since this morning, but at the time of writing has been back up within a few minutes. As long as the offer is still appearing on the main ComparetheMarket site, it shouldn't affect your eligibility, and if you've already paid for insurance you will merely have to visit later to claim your tickets.
Guys if you goto compare site create an account dont bother searching for anything.
Goto meerkat movices
Select - Travel Policy
Select - ERV
And for the policy number put ERVCTM***** replace the 5 stars with 5 random numbers.
Then jobs done

I did this last month, but it says my membership will expire after 1 month (I have 3 days left). Maybe you need to buy a similar policy every month (still a great deal) or find the cheapest possible annual policy?

Why have I been given less than 12 months membership of MEERKAT MOVIES?
To celebrate the launch of MEERKAT MOVIES we are giving existing customers who bought qualifying products with us MEERKAT MOVIES membership. For these existing customers, MEERKAT MOVIES membership lasts until the first anniversary from the date of your qualifying purchase. For example, if you bought in November 2014, you would have 7 months left. You can check when your membership expires on the MEERKAT MOVIES app or by logging into your comparethemarket.com account.

Did you buy insurance through Compare The Market about 12 months ago? Mine says - expires 25th June. I bought car insurance from them in June last year (didn't bother to claim the Meerkat toy this time) so it looks like I may have wasted the £1.37 by purchasing this travel one.

They are kind but too stupid to realize they aren't being very helfup.

So you have a 1/100 chance of getting 2 for 1...or less. Then a 99/100 chance of being annoyed.

"how is this thread still allowed isn't it covered by the original post 2 and a bit weeks ago"
-The original thread was for the launch of the 2 for 1 offer, this is around buying a £1.37 insurance policy to benefit from the deal
- Just scanned the original thread and yes there was reference to buying travel insurance however this is quite hidden in comments, not in the main OP and was stated much later on. I remember when this was posted and only seems more recent comments confirming that low cost travel insurance worked so I personally was not aware of this
- The post is obviously benefitting a lot of people given the comments and voting
"there is a cheaper way just request a credit card and you get the codes"
- yes you could get a credit card, however you would probably be better going via quidco/TCB to get the cashback
- not everyone will be accepted for a credit card and a decline could impact your credit record and ability to get credit in the future

Or just go up to Dundee to go to the pictures. Its £5.50 for an adult ticket...even adding in petrol costs it would work out cheaper than Harrow. Probably. £5.50!!! Dundee cinemas deserve a thread of their own.

Same here. I mentioned it earlier on in the thread. Mine expires near the end of June. Whether this one purchased today will auto kick in after that other one expires is another matter, but if that was the case I don't know why the date wasn't just automatically extended by another 12 months today.

I'm pretty sure everyone who is creating an account and entering a fake policy following the instructions earlier will be found out. And given you've had to give them personal information to get set up, I'd say that's a pretty stupid risk to take too.
Personally, I just bought travel insurance through the site for £2.13 for a legitimate UK business trip next week - so my purchase is all legal and above board, and it validated my Meerkat Movies membership to 8th April 2016.

ddude05 to herrbz

It could be revoked for people who have used quote codes without purchase to obtain the 2 for 1 tickets. If you purchase a policy the offer stands for 12 months, no come back
Chanchi32 to herrbz
9 Apr 151#309
I would guess that the accounts with fake details paying nothing that comparethemarket will look to close this one off quickly - as well as the cost they are regulated by the FCA and this wouldn't look too good from the regulator e.g. promo resulting in fraudulent activity and what checks did the meerkats do to prevent this
The accounts buying the low cost travel insurance - this is in the current terms and conditions so no issue there. Depending on the volume gaming them they may introduce a minimum spend as ultimately they will need to prove incremental income from funding the 2 for 1 offer.
merchantman
8 Apr 15#292
I would recommend buying the insurance as the likelihood of your membership being cancelled is very high.

Had the same question, and interestingly, Meerkat Movies don't seem to provide this important info (or if they do, its buried away on their site for some reason), so I went searching, and here it is, hope this helps..
So - at least for the Odeon - you have to turn up and pay on arrival with this? Someone mentioned that's why there's no point publically releasing your code (no-one will know who used it until you turn up).
What's the chances of having very poor seats (right in the corner) or sold out completely after a 20 minute car journey on a Tuesday/Wednesday? Would be a tad annoying! It's £11.50 in my local per ticket anyway!

I got it for £1.37 yesterday (thanks op!), I went to the odeon and used the code last night. I just checked my receipt and they charged me £1.50 for 'ctm'...

Made my £1.37 purchase but after pressing 'activate membership' on the website i just get a blank screen (tried on 2 different browsers), and when i try on the android app, i get to the part where i enter the policy number, but then get the message "Sorry, to get meerkat movies membership you need to have made a qualifying purchase....."

9 Apr 15#332
I would guess this is likely, just like you only could claim a meerkat toy with certain policies (i.e. not the £1.37 ones). The movies 2for1 deal is also applicable to any comparethemarket policies taken out in the past 12 months so you could genuinely use an old policy to get it for free and have a clear conscious lol.
me, I just banged in any old number. i do have other policies I could fall back on if they block my codes at a later date.

Hi I am having an issue bookign Cinderalla online at Cineworld for next Wed. When I select 2 tickets and then add my code, it does not reduce the price but instead an entry appears for meerket movies at a cost of 50p. I really do not understand what is going on?? Anyone had a similar issue?
saintscouple to sgrech
9 Apr 15#345
50p is the booking charge for the free ticket, so just add 1 more at full price and that's your 2 tickets
Evilmonkey to sgrech
9 Apr 15#346
Yes, this is the online booking fee it applies to all online orders (so the ticket is free, but you still have to pay the booking fee).

Thanks, however this shouldn't be hot as you can get it completely free. Worked fine, went to Odeon last night!
1. Sign into comparethemarket
2. Go to meerkat movies
3. Click the big gold button (for existing policies I think)
4. Select Travel Insurance, and ASDA as a provider
5. Enter a random number for the policy number (maybe about 10 digits long)
6. It should work. I had to repeat this process again for it to work however, but I now have it for a year!

I did contemplate doing the free method.. but ... just in case, I'd rather have this for a year, than risk it, as once it's taken away, you might not be able to do this 'cheap' method any more.
Reading the T&Cs, it does look like they will verify purchases, which of course will fail if you dump random numbers in. But, you never know, you might get away with it

Brilliant bit of ComparetheMarket PR, however, they forgot one thing..
How about doing something for all the people that are..
SINGLE
ALONE
NOT MARRIED
NOT WITH SOMEONE
DO NOT HAVE A PARTNER
ARE NOT 1 OF 2
LIKE TO SEE A MOVIE ON THEIR OWN
ETC ETC!
Sent a snotty email asking them why they have forgotten
almost 1/3+ of the UK population in this "great deal" and
after 3 days, still no reply!
Yes, you can take someone with you, go with your family
or drag someone in to the cinema, who is just hanging
around, dithering over what film to watch..
It would have been nice to have the choice Mr Meerkat..
How about some PR magic to fix it???
50% off if you go alone?
FREE drink or popcorn with the code?
Etc :sunglasses:

I emailed comparethemarket on Friday and they said try again on Monday but basically I think that is a delaying tactic to see if the purchase tracks.
I think it is a standard response they send out now because they are not just accepting any old policy number now but waiting until the policy tracks and that could take awhile.
I will email them on Monday though and will probably be told to wait again.

First time commenter. Finally got round to trying this. Logged into comparethemarket as I knew I had an account. Transpires I bought my home insurance through them in August 2014. This automatically makes me eligible for this so didn't need to buy anything but the downside is the 241 offer only applies until my house insurance runs out. Not a big problem as hubby and I rarely get to go to cinema midweek but will take my kid this Tuesday.

Update for all you guys, I bought Travel policy 12:10am 12/4/15, i know it was an emergency, lol, Coudn't activate it throughout yesterday day time, emailed them via their 'contact us' section, advised on the purchase date and time and details that under their T & C's section 5 that Travel Insurance is a qualifying product.
I received email today around 12:35pm to confirm 2 for 1 activated......woohoo
I also know this meerkat voucher code will work for cineworld unlimited customers, as I used to get 2 free tickets on Orange with my unlimited card, so it's double wammy.

it clearly states that Travel insurance purchases dont qualify for MEERKAT MOVIES I bougfht a policy and it will not accept the Policy number
A Qualifying Purchase enables a meerkat toy claim, and is one of the following products obtained via comparethemarket.com:
Car, Van, Motorbike, Home, Landlord, Pet insurance or Life insurance policies(i), successfully approved Credit cards(ii) or Loans, or a completed Digital TV/Broadband (iii) or Energy switch.
Products that do not qualify: Travel, Health, Business insurance, Breakdown cover, Income & Payment Protection insurance, or Mortgages.

Clearly states TOY CLAIM. No mention of meerkat movies.
In FAQ, clearly states travel insurance qualifies for meerkat movies as well as the T&C's 5.1.1.
You are correct in that accounts will not activate but simply contact via email and mention as above and will eventually activate.

Just took out a 1 day travel policy, worth a punt for £2.05.
Will let everyone know when/if I can get it to validate!
What products qualify for the 2 for 1 cinema tickets?
To qualify for MEERKAT MOVIES membership, you need to purchase one of the following products via comparethemarket.com: car, motorcycle, home, van, pet, landlord, life, home/content or travel insurance. You can also qualify by taking out a credit card or loan or switch energy, digital aTV or broadband supplier.

Just took out travel insurance for a trip in the uk I am going on, £4.12 and now I have cover just in case which probably isn't a bad thing and a year of 2 for 1.... Thanks for posting the deal, never thought I could get 2 4 1 films for such a small amount!

Did the same, hd to go with 'Go@ as 'ERV' have a glitch around birthdays & age groups! - It looked the other half into the 25-39 group, She turns 40 early august, we travel at the end of Aug & ERV's server just spat out it's dummy saying one of the travelelrs will not be in their age group at time of trip' but offered no option to change. As Meerkat asks for DOB, can't reverse and adjust or would be giving false info & Invalidate anyway. Still £5.40 for a year of 241 is less than one ticket, so that'll do!. Just waiting for it to allow activation now.

Why are you asking me?
Anyway, no.
Why don't you buy something from Compare The market yourself?
Opening post

Big thanks to OP!
1. Register a free account at http://www.comparethemarket.com/
-Top right; 'Sign in'
-'Forgotten Password'
-Add your email address to create account
-Verify and log in
2. Find the cheapest insurance offer available on the site
-'Let's start comparing..' 'Travel Insurance'
-Travelling UK, for one day, just me, no extras.
-Search
3. Choose 'ERV Insurance' cover for £1.37
-Redirect to their site, pay by Visa/Mastercard
-Receive your insurance docs by email
-Copy your policy number "ERVCTMXXXXX"
4. Claim your first cinema voucher code at http://www.comparethemarket.com/
-Direct link: https://meerkat-movies.comparethemarket.com/membership
-Field one, choose 'ERV'
-Field two, paste your policy number
-Done! Log on each week to receive a new code.
------------------------------
Why not just do it the free way?
Better to pay the £1.37 to guarantee your voucher codes for the year, since Meerkats will almost certainly withdraw the offer from those who have fabricated policy numbers.
(thanks Chanchi32)
Why can't I see a policy offer for £1.37?
It seems there is a variation in price for some users, £2-4, which may be based on age and/or location, or availability. Just choose the next cheapest option - it won't affect your Meerkat Movies eligibility.
The Meerkat Movies page seems to be down, is the deal expired?
The site has been down a couple of times since this morning, but at the time of writing has been back up within a few minutes. As long as the offer is still appearing on the main ComparetheMarket site, it shouldn't affect your eligibility, and if you've already paid for insurance you will merely have to visit later to claim your tickets.

The travel insurance docs were instant but nowt else?
Just wondered
After you've paid etc, login to your account, go through the claim Meerkat Movies and follow the quick and easy instructions, shouldn't take too long

Since it can't be validated if it's valid until it's validated at point of sale and likely already used by one of the other million people.
There's helpful people
and there's people who want to help.
They are kind but too stupid to realize they aren't being very helfup.
Because there's no way to know if another person has used the code until you go to the cineam.
So you have a 1/100 chance of getting 2 for 1...or less. Then a 99/100 chance of being annoyed.
...Still it's the thought that counts, they say. "they" being stupid people
You can also use the codes on line now with no booking fee at the odeon. Make sure you have two odeon accounts though, as its one code per account a week. And book kids together and adults together to maximise savings.
Yes.

The accounts buying the low cost travel insurance - this is in the current terms and conditions so no issue there. Depending on the volume gaming them they may introduce a minimum spend as ultimately they will need to prove incremental income from funding the 2 for 1 offer.

Might start a new website - compare-the-webservers.com
Made my £1.37 purchase but after pressing 'activate membership' on the website i just get a blank screen (tried on 2 different browsers), and when i try on the android app, i get to the part where i enter the policy number, but then get the message "Sorry, to get meerkat movies membership you need to have made a qualifying purchase....."
How long would you like your cover to last?
And guidance says to enter at least 5 years.
me, I just banged in any old number. i do have other policies I could fall back on if they block my codes at a later date.
So, it works now??. Therefore, not expired.
Sign up with the cineworld site and they give you a discount which compensates for this
We're sorry, but we're having technical issues validating this voucher. Please try again.
Simon
My concern now is random people using the fake numbers to invalidate my code.
I think a lot of people will be gutted when they click on what's happening. All for the sake of £1.37 for a full year lol
By continuing you understand that you are choosing MEERKAT MOVIES as your reward and will not be able to claim a toy this time.
But, you never know, you might get away with it
Went to activate and I already have an active policy showing which will expire on the 22nd of April.
How can I use my knew £2.05 policy?
Do you need to generate a new code / voucher for every week?
Most of the questions cropping up since page 1 are answered there.
A few more Likes and it will be visible in Top Comments, which should save people the duplicate queries and confusion.
Thanks!

Cheers OP.
what are we going to see?
I can sneak in the snacks - chomps etc
It is saying 'in order to get a meerkat Movies membership you need to have made a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com'
But I did take it out through compare the market.
If you could allow 72 hours for this purchase to come through to us, you will then be able to activate your membership and redeem your codes.
Says this on http://www.comparethemeerkat.com/ now. Possibly they've changed the offer to stop people taking advantage?
Although the terms and conditions still say:
I emailed comparethemarket on Friday and they said try again on Monday but basically I think that is a delaying tactic to see if the purchase tracks.
I think it is a standard response they send out now because they are not just accepting any old policy number now but waiting until the policy tracks and that could take awhile.
I will email them on Monday though and will probably be told to wait again.
Any ideas? Do I just need to try again in a few hours or something?
Oh, just an excuse to say hi/ morning btw
Code isn't working on the Meerkat site or App.
Same error message you all get. I have emailed support will see what they say.
Oh dear. That was a big fail. The phone no. I found was only for press enquiries and the response to the email I sent was that they will contact me within 24 hours. I do not expect I will be able to activate my account from the date of purchase of policy as per the t&c's after all. Anybody else had any luck?

In FAQ, clearly states travel insurance qualifies for meerkat movies as well as the T&C's 5.1.1.
You are correct in that accounts will not activate but simply contact via email and mention as above and will eventually activate.
Worked fine.
Cheers guys x
