Help... Have had this phone for 2+ years now and always worked fine on both sims until recently say last 2/3 months only works with one sim showing signal have tried many different locations incase it was a signal problem but still not worked? Then recently travelled to Europe and bingo the phone worked on both sims in France Belguim Switzerland and Italy it was perfect.... Came back to UK not working again only one sim??? Anybody else this happens too? So annoying im on the 3 network.

I received the £4.99 gel case today. It fits but not very snuggly. It fees too loose at the top and bottom of the case. I imagines that if the phone was dropped the case could come off. I ordered purple but blue came.

that's true. I actually dropped my phone acidentally on the floor of the underground train yesterday with the screen facing to the ground. Luckily the floor is not anything like concrete and it dropped off from less than half a metre so it has survived. pheww...
i actually wrote a review on amazon so feel free to read it see if you agree with it.
update: finally got my case today, it fits great! For the screen protection I used my remaining S3 ones I bought few years back.

Arrived this morning. All seems very good.
First impressions where that it felt a bit too light (cheap plastic light etc). However since using I don't really notice that and it feels well made.
I popped a 16GB card in that I had spare. Installed loads of apps and all seems good. Much faster at downloading files over the wifi than the old phone. Used it for a couple of hours and all is good.
Only thing I haven't tested is the phone part as the micro sim is coming on Monday!

Mostly hollow points and opinions above which are neither right nor wrong. The bottom line of "future proof" is what you do yourself through own actions that removes or reduce your dependence on others' dictate or bossing you about. E.g. Dictator tells you to buy A and your response could be "no I don't need A, mine still does the job" because you have future proved yourself through your own actions.
Chrrye
1 Mar 15#267
I would just add as a caveat to your viewpoint: one is not entirely sure or guarenteed that the prospective specification will ever become mainstream so care needs to be taken when operating on such a unrealised basis.
mku786
1 Mar 15#266
I don't think you understand what future proof means. It does not mean the piece of technology will be able to keep up with modern changes in technology forever. What it means is, in this context, is that you can use that phone in 2015 and still be able to use it 2-3 years on without feeling restricted in what you can do with it i.e. downloading and playing demanding games or perhaps getting an OS update (OS updates can make phones laggy)
MrPuddington
1 Mar 15#265
Indeed. It is easy to say what is not future proof: if your device does not support the next big thing (Android 5.0, 4G, 4k, whatever you think it is).
komakino
1 Mar 152#264
Your opinion is as valid as mine.
We're arguing semantics which, let's face it, is rather dull.

rev6
1 Mar 15#263
Future proof doesn't mean you're sorted for life, it means you're ready for a specification that's not entirely mainstream, like buying a GTX 970 that has HDMI 2.0, not really the standard but you're ready for it. Or installing internal speaker cable for a 7.1 setup but only using 5.1 for the mean time without needing to redo it.
This is entirely my opinion.
komakino
1 Mar 15#262
Future proof is over used by virtue of the fact it's used at all.
It implies that if you buy a (usually more expensive) product, you will never have to buy another device ever again - so you're actually *saving* money!
Classic upselling.

1 Mar 15#261

(That's assuming the phrase "last longer" sheds any light on the subject...having a higher technical specification means that a device is less likely to become obsolete in the near future...there, that's better).

I did, actually i tried everything. I even flashed my s3 from android 4.3 back to 4.1.2. Android 4.1.2 works better than 4.3 on S3 but it's still crap. Plus I've got many stuff and apps installed it would be pathetic to do factory reset and back up files all over again for every half a year. Even if I did factory reset, the phone starts to slow down within a week. Everytime I checked the battery status, the android OS sucks up 2x or 3x more juice than the screen! Worse time I had the battery drained to 10% in 5 hours even I didn't really use my phone... Buy a new phone and save all the hassles.
Does that mean that one SIM is 2G only? That would be a deal breaker for me...

Its designed to work in UK Market, it will be fine. It has 2 sim slots (Dual Sim) - 1 supports 3G/2G and there is a 2nd that probably will never be used that only supports 2G (for home sim and work sim).
Amazon Product Description
Honor Holly (Hol-U19) is a Huawei developed UTMS+GSM dual card dual standby single pass smartphone. It runs the Google AndroidTM system. The UMTS module supports 900/2100 MHz frequency bands while the GSM module supports the 900/1800/1900 MHz frequency bands.
Per this article http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/2013/11/05/vodafone-4g-signal-and-frequencies-explained/
To put that into our language, we operate our 2G service on our 900MHz frequency, which is a low frequency. 3G is operated at 2,100MHz, which is obviously higher. That’s why you might sometimes get a good 3G experience outside a building but notice it drop off indoors, whilst still getting a strong 2G signal.

haha seems like everyone become so frustrated with their S3 all the same time. I'm on the same boat as well. Gonna buy this as a replacement phone but I really look forward to getting the zenfone 2.

They have accepted plenty of orders but some time in the last day or so they've made a decision to stop accepting demands on this particular product... im guessing they cant actually make any money on it when they discount this phone. I got my order in as did plenty of others but im not 100% convinced we'll actually get them. Have to wait and see, the question is do i also order on amazon just in case.
Personally it seems to me it might be a bit of a trading standards issue if they are advertising 'Demand a better offer on any product you're about to buy' and then some products they say sorry we don't accept this.

I can understand the appeal of 4G from a coverage perspective definitely, but for download speed i really cant, not while most of the mainstream networks don't offer unlimited downloads, for example with the largest offerings from o2 i think being 8gb, and ee 20gb, with the top speeds of 4g you would get through your entire monthly allowance in something between 10 and 30 minutes (very roughly) if you were downloading at max speed. I would argue that would be mostly pointless. You could get just as much useful speed out of a 3g network. Unless you are trying to stream high bitrate 4k video to a cheap phone with a 720p display is it really going to make the world of difference to your experience?... BUT as i said on the basis of the improved coverage argument im all in favor of 4g... But then i live in wilds of Devon so currently at home I don't have 3g let alone 4g so it makes little difference to me most of the time, i have to life with the fact that rural areas are many generations behind in both mobile and fixed line broadband for the most part... pretty though.

According to this review the Dual SIMs are both 3g though I cannot speak to the veracity of these facts.
Dual SIM is common in large countries where you have one SIM for you home state and one for your work state (e.g China and India) of course you can use one sim only and some of the Huawei units now use a combined micro SD / SIM socket! e.g. http://twit.tv/show/before-you-buy/163 Huawei seem to be innovating e..g their high end phone with the camera that lets you change focus after taking the photo.

Huawei are a huge telecoms company they make some 70% of the worlds communication equipment almost all the ADSL / VDSL kit in the phone exchanges in the UK is made by them. They also make high end phones and do R&D in the UK (Cambridge). In the US they are not widely used. They withdrew from the US market. Even the low end phone they make are good. Most of the 3g/4g wifi modem sold in the UK are Huawei (e.g the ones branded Orange, Three, etc) if you read the labels most of these are in fact Huawei. You may have Huawei kit at home and not realise.

I am aware that dual SIM phones exist and are very popular in other countries, I have owned several myself (the last being a JiaYu G3), however I was referring to the demand in the UK market.
I have demonstrated dual-SIM to lots of people who I thought might be interested in the advantages, but while people thought it was 'cool' they were happy with whatever setup they had. Most people are happy to pay a fair bit extra for either data or minutes they don't need, and people who need two mobile numbers prefer to have two separate phones.
I have bought one of these myself, although I doubt I will make use of dual-SIM this time.

Your very very little market comment is laughable.
For your information, dual sim handsets have been popularity for many years now in Asian markets like India and China. Over the years, I have used many like Nokia 100 Dual Sim, Nokia 530 Dual Sim.
The reason you are not aware may be because the UK networks were never interested in getting dual SIM handsets in the market.
In Nokia 530 Dual Sim - both Sim cards supports 3G, so do in many other dual sim phones available for sale on Amzaon India:
exactly what I thought. I think it's due to the fact that few people on that post were arguring and debating against each other on silly stuff and someone just reported it as spam.
But seriously, the admin should give warnings to people that "misbehave" on hukd rather than blocking the whole post. Deleting the whole post was just a passive way to stop people from confronting, and people like us will not be able to receive any updates. It sucks.
I have received my ZTE phone yesterday but I have not opened it. Going to return it back to seller as I fear the battery life sucks as someone previously suggested. It doesn't have gorilla glass and high res which is not I ultimately want.

Yes, I bought the S6 from an eBay seller and got it delivered the next day...so UK stock. It's a very good phone. Fast and fluid and good-looking. Build is plastic but better quality than I expected and it really does look like an iPhone 6...well, until you pick it up. Photos are good, especially from the front camera. It has it's own OS update app, which will update the OS over the air and save the installation file to an SD card....you then use Android's normal phone update setting to get it from the card to the phone. Bit longwinded and there've been no updates so far, so I don't know how well it works. All in all a very good phone for the money - in fact for more money - and I'm enjoying using it, especially as it has microSD card slot and preloaded with Lollipop.

Gareth79
25 Feb 15#151
There is very very little market for such a phone.
This type of dual-SIM phone intended to be used for mixing and matching data and voice call packages, you put your cheap data SIM in the 3G/data slot and your voice SIM in the 2G slot. You configure the phone to use data from SIM 1 and then select SIM 2 from the dialer app as the default for all voice calls. You can give each SIM a name and then incoming calls are tagged with that name on screen.

wixelix to xorsyst
24 Feb 15#107
I wouldn't call it an upgrade but it would make a decent replacement. Its still a very budget phone after all. You'd have a bigger, higher resolution screen though (but not as good quality as an amoled)
I think you're talking about the old Mediatek. The GPS on the later boards is now fine (helped along by 4G admitedly), and you do get upgrades for them, it all depends on the manufacturer. I've had three or so OTA upgrades on my THL handset in the course of under 9 months. Again support is down to the manufacturer of the phone, not the chipset maker (try getting Intel to support your PC). I've owned about 8 Mediatek phones, and while the early ones were indeed a bit ropey, the later ones have been getting really good in every department (including the use of the Sony camera chipset).

24 Feb 15#103
Totally agree about Android updates. For the first couple of months there will be bugs and issue's that can seriously impact on your phone's performance. Most changes are minuscule anyway and the majority of non techies won't know or care what Android version they are running.
Android has been a smooth and slick os since ICS and I just feel the constant unnecessary upgrading every year or so is more of a tactic to encourage people to keep buying new phones in the belief they are missing out on something.

What are the chances of this phone getting android os updates e.g. to lollipop?
wixelix to delphinid
24 Feb 152#81
Chances are good as this model is very popular in India and Huawei have been getting better with updates recently. Imo though, Android updates are vastly overrated. Loads of people who updated their phones to lolipop so far have complained about terrible battery life and other issues. The big manufacturers always do this, rush updates because of demand even if they make your phone worse. If the phone works well on its current software and there's no features from lolipop that you need, why would you want it? I don't get people who seem obsessed with having the latest Android version especially on cheap phones.
If a company abandons phones with unusable software, ie Sony, then I'd put lack of updates as a con. It took Sony until mid 2014 to release Android 4.3 for the Xperia SP. The update made the phone way worse and the previously promised Android 4.4 was abandoned.
TR7_Driver
24 Feb 15#80
An average phone at a good price, however will not be buying as will not get Lollipop, at orginal price of £100 sat between Moto G & E, however performance lags well behind Moto G, depending on your budget I would go for the Moto G, however if you can afford another £100 he ZTE Blade S6 offers far more bang for your bucks. However at the end of the day its what you want and can afford, but it is good to see that you can now buy phones with higher end specs in a mid range price.

The GPS problems don't exist anymore on their newer chips, true the mtk6582 doesn't have the best GPS but you can usually get it working fine. Not everyone cares about custom roms, lack of updates is because most mediatek phones have been released by Chinese companies who wouldn't update them regardless of what chip they are.
Qualcomm has its own issues too including the notorious sensors.qcom bug which drains the battery from 100-0% in a matter of hours even without use.

Perhaps something you've overlooked there is that many of us Brits are rather *** off with everything slowly changing to usa English rather than British English...... perhaps in part due to the 'indoctrination' and attempted world domination via Hollywood films etc ?
It would be rather nice if goods destined for the UK market were to use British English for a change - I've lived and worked in other countries, and many students would prefer to learn our version of the language if possible, but sadly the slightly creepy worldwide influence of the states makes it more difficult every year.

Nothing wrong with mediatek really. They used to be average at best but the mtk6582 is decent enough, even though its one of their last years chips. Its on par with the snapdragon 400.
Their most recent chipsets (mtk6732,mtk6752) are actually ahead of qualcomm alternatives(snapdragon 410,snapdragon 615) with better performance and lower heat. They also have a new one coming out soon to challenge the snapdragon 810 and from all the issues reported with that, mediatek will probably be better.
Any other phones that are below £100 and are better than this one.

Heat added...Was on the lookout until recently for a dual sim phone that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg, for occasional use abroad and eventually went for the Lenovo A820 from Aliexpress..cost me £42 all in and received it within 2 weeks of ordering. Fantastic phone, came rooted with an English custom rom and no bloatware. Granted it only has 4 GB storage and 245 ppi but it does have a micro SD slot, 8MP camera, the same Mediatek Quadcore processor as the phone in the OP and 1 GB RAM. Acheived 18500 on Antutu which is not bad at all for a £40 phone. Plenty still on offer on Aliexpress around the $65 mark so definitely worth considering if you just want a phone with dual sim capability that will only see very occasional use..
Edit: Just noticed that the Huawei in the OP has an older build quadcore processor ( MT 6582 released in 2013 ) compared to the Lenovo A820 ( MT 6589)....

It's very good for the price but the screen isn't the best even though it has good resolution. It's one of those cheap 'looks grey whilst off' screens that isn't bonded to the display. If you can stretch a bit extra I'd go for the Honor 3c instead which has a higher quality screen and 2gb ram.

Great spec for price. 16gb internal is great for a budget phone 2.5gb will used by Android system
5 inch. Close to 300ppi . Dual sim.. Pretty good camera. It ticks most boxes
The next Moto G and Moto E will be £150 and £120 I believe .... These will be 4g and have lollipop out of the box. Released March probably towards the end March
The budget phone marketing is getting very interesting... Sony Xperia E4 as well for £88-99 with 5 inch screen

That was the price for it on flipkart, with an offer for Indian Credit Card. Now it is £83.36 ( @ £1 = 95.95 INR ) but worth it as it is a really nice phone.
: Both are active throughout the day, only one can be used at a time. Its Dual Sim, Dual Standby , when you call/text you have to select the sim you want to use

This was available in India for months now, had the time to play with the handset. and I must say I was impressed.
The battery is ok, lasts about a day and half with moderate internet usage.
This is a budget phone with a decent 720p screen, back camera is above average. I had some issues with signal, but that may also be because I was in some patchy area.
Does not have a Gorilla Glass / Dragon tail glass which was a priority for me, instead I opted for a ASUS Zenfone 5 Dual Sim for £80 ( 2 GB RAM)

23 Feb 15#33
I've used ActiveGPS (free) to fix the usual MT6582 issue on two phones, both with success. It doesn't need to be left running all the time either, just turn ActiveGPS on before you start the SatNav (so no battery worries) and you can turn it off when you're done. It's worked for me on two Cubot phones with this processor, one running Android 4.2 and one on 4.4. Both were unusable before, taking ages to find a fix if indeed they did at all, and now the phones function pretty reliably as Satnavs (I use Waze), normally fixing within 60 seconds, which is good enough for me.

HSPA+ is not ancient technology. It will happily stream Full HD content whilst doing other things simultaneously. Now I'm not sure how you use your phone, but I very much doubt you EVER max out your 3G connection....let alone fully utilise a 4G connection.

First impressions where that it felt a bit too light (cheap plastic light etc). However since using I don't really notice that and it feels well made.

We're arguing semantics which, let's face it, is rather dull.
:stuck_out_tongue:
This is entirely my opinion.
It implies that if you buy a (usually more expensive) product, you will never have to buy another device ever again - so you're actually *saving* money!
Classic upselling.
(That's assuming the phrase "last longer" sheds any light on the subject...having a higher technical specification means that a device is less likely to become obsolete in the near future...there, that's better).

Per this article
http://blog.vodafone.co.uk/2013/11/05/vodafone-4g-signal-and-frequencies-explained/
Enjoy
As you said, it's great value for money and if you're looking for a phone around this price, then you can't do much better.

Srs question. Minus train.
HSPA+ is not ancient technology. It will happily stream Full HD content whilst doing other things simultaneously. Now I'm not sure how you use your phone, but I very much doubt you EVER max out your 3G connection....let alone fully utilise a 4G connection.
But I'm glad there are people out there with your philosophy. You help subsidise the infrastructure that I'll eventually switch to using
I'm just talking about my circumstances, and every second counts while surfing and downloading. I personally would not be able to cope with 3G connection while in the city. It's miles behind time and way behind the rest of the world (some places like Singapore are on 5g!!). We are supposed to be propelling this country forward, rather than promoting return to the dark ages...
I'll get my coat..
What about the 50% of people than don't even live anywhere near 4g connections, why would they possibly need a 4G phone?
HSPA+ is more than sufficient for most people. 4G makes browsing snappier, downloads faster but it doesn't directly impact the functionality of my phone.
I guess you're still one of those minorities who uses dial-up...
COLD.
Sorry, cold...
I used to get 10Mb on HSPA+, some people don't even get that in their own homes!

Yes install a launcher such as nova launcher or similar.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher&hl=en_GB
This might fix the screens you mention - If they are the stock launcher ones that you are referring to
So you may NOT have a clue who they are? lol .. BUT, they've been around for donkey Years still ..... lol. :-)
I totally just made that up, but it sounds convincing doesn't it?

I have demonstrated dual-SIM to lots of people who I thought might be interested in the advantages, but while people thought it was 'cool' they were happy with whatever setup they had. Most people are happy to pay a fair bit extra for either data or minutes they don't need, and people who need two mobile numbers prefer to have two separate phones.
I have bought one of these myself, although I doubt I will make use of dual-SIM this time.
Thats strange I have just ordered from flubit for £65.45!! Had the offer this morning.
No cancellation email yet!!
I would expect that everyone that has ordered the phone with Flubit will have had the same e-mail.

But seriously, the admin should give warnings to people that "misbehave" on hukd rather than blocking the whole post. Deleting the whole post was just a passive way to stop people from confronting, and people like us will not be able to receive any updates. It sucks.
I have received my ZTE phone yesterday but I have not opened it. Going to return it back to seller as I fear the battery life sucks as someone previously suggested. It doesn't have gorilla glass and high res which is not I ultimately want.
Are developers likely to be interested in this phone or the S6 (spammed deal).
Custom Roms are a little bit of a ball ache to install but once mastered a brilliant way of keeping old tech up to date with software advances.
I ordered mine from gearbest using code ztes6 to bring it to £148. The order is still marked as "processing" after 3 days and I expect it to be dispatched from China rather than Europe as they claim on their website.
You can give each SIM a name and then incoming calls are tagged with that name on screen.
and for the money its probably a better deal than the moto g at present. this has same/slightly better specs, for a lower price. trade-off is the re-assurance of motorola's known quality and UK warranty.
For others who may not know .... What phone do you recommend that are dual sim with both 3G ?
I have the offer on Cubit, for £67, but I'm not sure. Only need it as a second phone as I already have an iPhone 6 as my primary.
I was impressed with the changes they made going from 2.3 to 3.0. Even if it was 5.0 you probably wouldn't know unless you checked in the settings.
No problem at all on that. Apart from the fact that Google removed silent mode. That was really clever. (They're adding it back in 5.1).
You can watch Marcus Brownee's review of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEDQ1z1-PvU
Also many phones have just one update and by the time the update comes out (sometimes a year) it's old news and you have grey hairs.
Buy a phone with Lollipop out of the box. Even the el cheapo phones like this one will probably start coming out with it within 2-3 months.
If you don't need 4G sign the Nexus 4 for a mesmerising 130 bones. You know you want to.

Android has been a smooth and slick os since ICS and I just feel the constant unnecessary upgrading every year or so is more of a tactic to encourage people to keep buying new phones in the belief they are missing out on something.
"I wish my other half was as big as this"
thanks, I'm here all week.....
cheque please ...
If a company abandons phones with unusable software, ie Sony, then I'd put lack of updates as a con. It took Sony until mid 2014 to release Android 4.3 for the Xperia SP. The update made the phone way worse and the previously promised Android 4.4 was abandoned.
Qualcomm has its own issues too including the notorious sensors.qcom bug which drains the battery from 100-0% in a matter of hours even without use.
Btw I clearly said this phone has mtk6582 and the one in video is mtk6752
There are other issues as well, lack of community support, lack of updates, all mentioned in this thread.
Why ignore them all? I owned a Mediatek phone, never again, thanks.
Not sure how you managed to find a youtube video in vietnamese...
Also it's about mtk6752 as you say which is NOT the chip in this phone.
It would be rather nice if goods destined for the UK market were to use British English for a change - I've lived and worked in other countries, and many students would prefer to learn our version of the language if possible, but sadly the slightly creepy worldwide influence of the states makes it more difficult every year.
Here's a video of some htc phone with mtk6752 and snapdragon 615 variants. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-XzU785lzU Mediatek destroys it.
Never heard of them before, that's why.
Pay a bit more and get a non-Mediatek phone
It's not a crime to not know a Chinese brand that you happen to know.
Actually, not a big deal if you never heard of an UK company either
