Been on the look out for a budget tablet and came across this. It seems to be £129 across many retailers but being a new customer with very and using code 4XDWJ it took £25 off so got it for £104. Just thought I would share it in case anyone else is looking for one. Looks a decent tablet for the price and specs can be found below. Also note the very code can be used on any item over 50 quid as long as your a new customer and open a very account. You can then pay it off as quickly as you want.

Be very very careful when purchasing this tablet. The tablet has no light sensor which is perfectly fine as you should be able to adjust the brightness yourself which most people do anyway. That's what you'd think. Lenovo implemented a software version of a light sensor which they fail to mention anywhere and it is extremely faulty. The screen brightness will flicker from full brightness to dim whenever it feels like. You have no control over it whatsoever. There is a fix for this though which is very hit and miss but it is quite tricky for people who aren't comfortable with stuff like installing CWM and the likes. Don't take my word for it. Go read it over on XDA and Lenovo don't give a toss. Poor support. Automated responses. Even their Twitter rep is reading from a script. There was a recent update also which failed to fix this so you're stuck with it unless you are willing to live with it or fix it yourself. This will particularly annoy those who want to watch movies on it. Especially XBMC where the brightness just fades to dark whilst watching a movie.

See. Now you're having other owners coming forward with the same claims of the flickering issue and a few have even suggested going down the rooting road which again is not the easiest thing to do for someone who just wants to purchase a tablet and not mess with it or a technophobe. You expect to buy a fully working device no matter what it is you purchase. Not something you have to bring home and hope it doesn't suffer from the flickering/battery issues which you have to fix yourself. Just be wary people that this purchase would be more of a gamble than others.

got the tablet, really like it. I'm starting to use it more than my laptop now. (for casual browsing that is) don't seem to have brightness issues thank God.
Only thing i've got a problem with is xposed, once i installed it, installing new non-xposed related apps reboots the tablet. removed xposed and they open. installed xposed 2.61 for zenfone and it seems to work now. but i haven't enabled greenify so that may be the issue.
Another slight annoyance for me is the lack of custom roms or even any kind of development for it. lets hope it gets lollipop.

Read the XDA thread I put in my post and the Lenovo forum before you throw 4 measly Amazon reviews at me. I didn't get 22 likes by chance. And Lenovo have ALLOWED this.
From the same report.
"According to security experts, it appears that Lenovo had given Superfish permission to issue its own certificates, allowing it to collect data over secure web connections, known in malware parlance as a man-in-the-middle attack."
fawcett
20 Feb 15#99
but if you do have snapfish on your laptop then here is the way on how to remove it (laptop and desktops)
If you’re affected by Superfish, you must first uninstall the program:
◾Click the Windows Start button
◾Search uninstall program
◾Launch uninstall program
◾Right-click on Superfish Inc VisualDiscovery and select Uninstall
◾If prompted for administrator password, enter or provide confirmation
Then you must uninstall the certificates as well:
◾Click the Windows Start button
◾Type certmgr.msc into the Search box
◾Click the certmgr.msc Program to launch it
◾If prompted for administrator password, enter the password or provide confirmation
◾Click on Trusted Root Certification Authorities
◾Open Certificates
◾Look for certificates mentioning Superfish Inc.
◾Right-click on any Superfish Inc certificates and delete
◾Restart your browser and return to this page to see you are safe
im sorry but the certificates have been issues by superfish if you look at the bbc report
even says under the picture "Was Superfish given permission to issue its own certificates?"
so you are wrong "Lenovo is NOT installing their own self-signed certificates - Superfish are"

As this tablet has no hdmi output on it what are my options for linking it up to my tv ? . I know about Chromecast but not all apps / websites will allow you to cast directly from your tab to your tv (i dont think), can i purchase a Micro usb to HDMI adaptor then stick it into the tablet then an hdmi cable into the HDMI end of the adaptor & the other end into the HDMI slot in my TV for it to work? any advice appreciated bit of a novice when it comes to this connection malarkey...cheers

My personal advice is if it is a price you would buy without the code, go for it, try the code & take it as a bonus if it works, but be prepared that they may charge it back in future & ensure that you budget for it (I did not have £5 to spare when they asked for £25 back). KeepScreen does not work. Confirmed by myself a while ago and others on the XDA thread. There's only one user on there who said it did okay for him but he later told me the problem reappeared. So far people who have rooted/wiped battery stats have had the most success since for some strange reason it is related to battery performance. Again nobody is sure what the actual problem is but most believe Lenovo have implemented an emulated light sensor which works in tandem with a hidden battery saving feature which you cannot access. This random flickering is not specific to certain apps either. It will flicker as and when it pleases. There's also the DPI change which Lenovo made which could have possibly brought this on but there's no answer or solution from Lenovo on this. Even if you read their own forums which is full of Lenovo reps copying and pasting generic responses frustrating every member with this issue to no end. It's actually funny to read. It's possible the newer batch of Lenovo Tab S8 might have had these features removed but there's no way to tell which version you'll get.

You've had no issues with the light sensor? There is no light sensor. Also if you've not noticed any gradual changing of brightness or sudden changing of brightness then you sir are one of the lucky ones. Also try playing a 1080p video or an graphically intense game for more than 30 minutes and if it doesn't heat up I'll eat my hat because I own this device and a friend (since I wrongfully suggested he buy one by just reading the up the specs) and both heat up intensely. If you're going to test that make sure your battery dips below 40% and leave the Intel HD video settings on. Common fault with Intel based tabs. Both suffer from the screen flicker issue also.

I fully understand that this is bargain site and that people come here for the cheapest price, but having always purchased items because they were cheap, discounted or discontinued has meant that I have actually wasted a lot of money over the years.
I have a good laptop, a Dell Venue 11 Pro with every dock and accessory and recently a Galaxy Tab S LTE.
The Dell that cost me well over a £1000 has been out of its case only a handfull of times, its a good device but it is just too bulky to use comfortably as a carry tablet (it was another purchase that I made due to it being discounted).
My laptop is now only used for serious work or video processing.
My every day device is the Galaxy Tab S. It is perfect for my needs I can do just about everything I need on a daily basis with it, plus it doubles up as the best portable audio/video device that I have ever owned.
What I am saying is, if you can wait and can afford to save up more money then do it, don't end up like me with a storage locker full of wasted money.

Usually avoid buying cases but in this case...I just had to hide how hideous it was. Aesthetically though it is pleasing to the eye and a joy to hold. Very light also.
This tablet is also a huge fingerprint magnet and not as easy to clean up compared to say an even older 1st gen Nexus 7 which was pretty good for not being a finger print magnet.

I bought this a few months ago in the Currys deal which after cashback was a similar price. It is a great tablet for the price but there are some drawbacks, most of which have been outlined above.
The software is the main problem, in terms of the flickering problem, the battery life and some frustrating UI elements. The battery life was the main issue for me as when I first got it I was getting 3.5 hours screen time which was not good enough and I intended to return it. The standby time was not great either, maybe 2 days as it seems to have a problem with how it handles Wi-Fi when sleeping.
After a software update a couple of weeks later the battery life improved to about 5 hours which was just about acceptable to me. Yes, there are tablets that have double this battery life but not with these specs in this price range. I invested in a portable charger as a compromise as the tablet is quite light and very fast.
The update seemed to change the dpi and therefore not fully take advantage of the high resolution screen but it made me hopeful that an official Lollipop or custom rom could make this a great all-around tablet. I am generally happy with it but the standby time is still not great unless you remember to switch off Wi-Fi. However if I was looking for an 8 inch tablet now, some of the windows 8.1 tabs look great for the price and something like the Linx 8 (if it had 2gb of RAM) would be tempting.
If you want Android then the new updated Yoga 2 8 seems to now have the advantages of this tablet coupled with an excellent battery life and built in stand at the cost of being a bit heavier and a fair bit more expensive.
Finally while I would fully recommended this tablet at the price I can't recommended buying from Very to anyone. I love a deal as much as anyone but it's just not worth the hassle you have to go through with them a lot of the time.

That's an incredible spec for the price. For comparison, the Hudl 2 might seem like a steal at £130 for intel and 2GB but it uses the low end Bay Trail so bandwidth is dirt slow (and so affects multi-functionality, like stuttering when opening multiple apps). This, however, uses a top end Bay Trail with a 17GB/s bandwidth, so not only do you have plenty of RAM that RAM also runs at a quick pace.
As for the A10, I'm not so sure sorry, I have seen a few people posting that they've had success with this website: http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm

Rooted mine and tweaked it to fix the brightness issue. Have a 64GB microSD installed with films, music and games/date totalling about 40GB, and only 1GB out of 16 used from internal memory and everything is smooth. If you're not too bothered about voiding the warranty, I highly recommend you root it, it's really simple and takes a minute. You can of course then remove bloatware and reduce RAM consumption, which makes the tablet buttery smooth. When playing graphically intensive games for over half an hour, the tablet does heat up quite a bit and I doubt that a software update will be able to fix that. Also, although there isn't much support for this tablet so far, I'm pretty certain it will receive the Lollipop upgrade, in time of course.

It is extremely annoying and the majority of the Lenovo Tab S8 suffer from it. The screen itself is beautiful but what good is that if you can't watch a movie in peace without it flickering between brightness settings? Tut. Anyway if you read through the forum I gave people a fix for it which worked for some but not for others. Good thing I didn't buy mine. I won it directly from an Intel competition. Lol.

I was going to post the same deal yesterday! Hah. I decided this is probably the best brand new tablet at this price for all the spec. Better than getting a second hand nexus too because of the memory card slot.

Please be very careful using discount codes with them: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7061767.stm - they did back down, but only after months of worry & stress - basically if they decide (without time limit?) that you were not eligible, they can look to claw back the discount, opening a credit account in your name to hold the debit & adding late fees to it if you do not pay. If you google "littlewoods reclaim £25 voucher code" you will find results everywhere inc. MSE, bitterwallet & HUKD.

so the price of this lenovo tablet is £150, and with the Hudl 2 (£129) is this actually a good deal?

Only thing i've got a problem with is xposed, once i installed it, installing new non-xposed related apps reboots the tablet. removed xposed and they open. installed xposed 2.61 for zenfone and it seems to work now. but i haven't enabled greenify so that may be the issue.
Another slight annoyance for me is the lack of custom roms or even any kind of development for it. lets hope it gets lollipop.

end the day your point is based on a brand and not this deal. - also the tablets are not effected
From the same report.
"According to security experts, it appears that Lenovo had given Superfish permission to issue its own certificates, allowing it to collect data over secure web connections, known in malware parlance as a man-in-the-middle attack."
If you’re affected by Superfish, you must first uninstall the program:
◾Click the Windows Start button
◾Search uninstall program
◾Launch uninstall program
◾Right-click on Superfish Inc VisualDiscovery and select Uninstall
◾If prompted for administrator password, enter or provide confirmation
Then you must uninstall the certificates as well:
◾Click the Windows Start button
◾Type certmgr.msc into the Search box
◾Click the certmgr.msc Program to launch it
◾If prompted for administrator password, enter the password or provide confirmation
◾Click on Trusted Root Certification Authorities
◾Open Certificates
◾Look for certificates mentioning Superfish Inc.
◾Right-click on any Superfish Inc certificates and delete
◾Restart your browser and return to this page to see you are safe

even says under the picture "Was Superfish given permission to issue its own certificates?"
so you are wrong "Lenovo is NOT installing their own self-signed certificates - Superfish are"
It shows they company is highly un-trustworthy. Not the kind I'd like to deal with.

i think mine is faulty
Though it has a strange problem whereby it wouldn't play BBC iPlayer downloads when we were out of the country. It worked fine before and after!

My personal advice is if it is a price you would buy without the code, go for it, try the code & take it as a bonus if it works, but be prepared that they may charge it back in future & ensure that you budget for it (I did not have £5 to spare when they asked for £25 back). This is of course not applicable if you know that the code is designed for you.

Happy to get one at £54 or even £69 depending on what code is ok, waiting on the Groupon to track which was before I hit very website via tcb for the 6% on top ;-) Will be rooting it for whatever it costs, just to have some rom fun with all the power!
If serious issue, stick KeepScreen app on them
Trying 2 x 50 [100 total] very groupon [50 cost] + 1 x 25 first order code + TCB, will try with 1 groupon 50 if not to see if works and gets price down.. :sunglasses: + a little Lenovo cashback as well?

I have had no issues with the light sensor or with it heating up, battery life could be better but I would by no means call it very poor.
Overall a great little tablet and great price.

only thing ive done with mine is run all the updates, never rooted or anything fancy
my only gripe is the poor battery when playing gfx intensive games but for the money youd be hard pressed to buy better
Very good tablet with good specs. Can't go wrong with the price. Screen is fantastic HD and speakers are brilliant for such a light and thin tablet -Dolby!
I just thought I better add this before anyone asks, no I don't have them any more.
This site is pure evil...
And Im very very happy with my 7" tablet that Ive had for 15 months now.
This tablet is also a huge fingerprint magnet and not as easy to clean up compared to say an even older 1st gen Nexus 7 which was pretty good for not being a finger print magnet.
