The new Christmas 50p coin beautifully captures the magic and excitement of the original film, featuring The Snowman, The Snowdog and Billy – the boy that brings these loveable characters to life. The coin is available in a wallet, gift pack or Christmas card so there’s a coin that’s just right for you to find the perfect Christmas present!
These are selling for quite a lot more ebay already.

I'm sure these coins are lovely but I can't bring myself to vote hot on a 'deal' where you deliberately pay quadruple what the item is worth.
Then again maybe I'll regret saying that if this coin ends up being a rare and valuable collectible a few years down the line.
noahsdad to Battenberg
15 Dec 14#48
Forget that it is a 50p coin as that is just the "product". The value is somewhere around what the RRP and market value is. So if you buy that £4.25 coin set, the value is somewhere in the region of £4.25 today. In a few years time...... who knows

15 Dec 14#46
Some of these comments are just utter nonsense. The fact it is a coin is not relevant. It is just the same as stamp collecting or any other collecting really it just happens to be a specialy produced coin in this case. Seriously.... as if anyone buying these is going to be buying their newspaper the next day with their 50p Snowman coin.

15 Dec 14#50
Have to admit I have no experience of coin collecting, but given it is the much adored Snowman and any merchandise relating to that tends to have good value in later years I'd say its a safe bet to buy a few as you can't lose. Its not a fortune to invest, and worst case scenario you will make a small profit.

15 Dec 14#53
I do. But I am unsure of it's value. Keep meaning to shove it on Ebay but can't be bothered. Will keep it for the kids probably.
Which is why I acknowledged that very possibility in my comment...
If you're a coin collector fair enough I see how this might be interesting to you and I'm obviously not disputing the right to collect coins. That said I was under the impression that this site is meant to be for sharing good deals and special offers as opposed to advertising interesting/ unusual/ niche products which why I won't vote it as a hot deal. Sure it could be worth a fortune in the future., it could also be worth 50p. Buying it in the hope that you will gain from it financially is, in essence, gambling. Particularly as the more people buy this the less likely that eventuality actually becomes.
noahsdad
15 Dec 14#57
Also happy to acknowledge your point, it is fair to say this is HUKD and this is technically not a deal, as there is no saving on RRP if you like today, and the future is unknown. Don't think many of us voting hot are coin collectors, just avid snowman fans. Also makes for a decent pressie. I was happy to vote it hot believing in all likelihood this will prove a great long term deal.

16 Dec 14#72
Your just not grasping it, no one is intending to buy their newspaper next week with their 50p Snowman coin. You are at least right that "It's not even worth 50p", its worth around £4 at today's value and should be a decent longer term investment.

I ordered on 15th and it was delivered Saturday. I went for the coin mounted on a card, rather than the loose one in a plastic wallet, not sure if that made a difference. I also bought the stamp set so if you are getting that free as a gesture of goodwill then it should more than make up for the coin, its a really nice set. Lots of places that let you down with deliveries (I've been on the end of poor customer service from The Hut/Zavvi!) wont offer you a bean!
