Nice troll, This is a great phone. I still use a iphone 3g and only now is it getting too old for me, not everyone wants to pay an extra £240 over the contract to get a 'quad core' and higher resolution screen when they don't need it.

Will there be an upfront cost from the 8th?

Talkmobile Unlimited Data Policy (seems fair to me)
Unlimited Internet (included in tariff allowance)
Some Pay Monthly contracts include "Unlimited" data access as part of the tariff allowance.
There is no limit on mobile internet usage on contracts which include "Unlimited" data access. However if we feel that your data usage is so excessive that other customers are detrimentally affected and/or we are concerned about fraud, we may introduce a fair use policy. If we publish a policy we will let you know. Any such policy may change from time to time, including where we introduce new Services which may require certain rules to ensure such new Services can be enjoyed by our customers. If, once we have implemented such a policy, your use of the Service is excessive, is causing problems for other users and you continue to use the Service excessively we may suspend all or some of the Services.

Also worth nothing if you pay the contract off straight away the cost will only be £307 as you do not pay the VAT when you buy out a contract. If you also apply the cashback of 35 then this is a way of getting the handset sim free for £275.
Total cost £387
- Vat £77

if only it had a Micro Sd card slot as the S4 dual core should spank old tech quad cores (think american muscle car vs Porche carrera!) I filled up 21gb just with Apps/games, although the lmimited user memory on the SE Play is a pain!
OnlyWould have gone for this but just ordered the Sim free Prada from Expansys at bargain £225 as it's within a hair of the Galaxy S2 in most areas and i've ditched the Xperia Play and will NEVER buy a Sony again due to their backtracking claiming it wasn't powerful enough to run ICS after promising it would be upgraded! (Note that they are upgrading the Xperia Mini pro which is the same/lower internals so it's an excuse to help launch their playstation certified campaign, they'll never get my business again though!)

I don't think you can still use the contract after you pay up on it, you are paying that fee to cancel the contract.
If you have cancelled the contract, how can you continue to use it? What if you went over the number of minutes, how would you pay the extra costs?
I think it was given as a way of buying the phone cheaper than on PAYG/sim free. A silly way if you ask me, but still a way.

It does sound like a good deal but the biggest let down is the fact that only 11 GB of memory is available to the user,no expandable memory card slot and non-replaceable battery. So if you're looking to put music and shoot/record photos & videos then it's not enough. Also if the handset crashes and the reset button isn't responding then you're stuck, you can't take out the battery! I'm holding out for a different model.

You should be able to send it back to tmobile, all contracts usually have a cooling off period for you to decide (14 days from what I can remember). I have changed my mind numerous times on phones and when they get delivered I tell the courier to send it back as I don't want it, which they have done.

PulseTurbo

Actually it's nothing to do with style; it's to do with build quality. I far prefer the feel of a unibody design, and it usually feels higher quality.

PulseTurbo
8 Jun 12#89

You can get a micro sim cutter off of ebay, they seem quite cheap or ask the company your current sim is with and ask them to send you a micro sim version of your contract. In regards to the micro sim, which comes with the phone there should be some adapters out there to make it fit a normal phone.......

if you choose collect in store, can it be any CPW store and can you pick it up straightaway or do you have to wait for a few days?
One X - 4.7 inch, 1280x720, quad core processor, polycarbonate unibody shell (hard plastic) 32Gb storage
One S - 4.3 inch, 960x540, dual core 1.5Mhz processor, anodized aluminium unibody shell (hard aluminium) 16Gb storage
Both are thin and relatively light compared to other phones
One S is probably a bit more durable because it's lighter and has anodized aluminium casing but both are strong
Phone speed is actually about the same, the extra power in the One X is needed for the higher res. screen
One X screen is better (though both are excellent)
One S definitely has better battery life, though both are an improvement on say the HTC Desire
I would go for the One X if:
- you need the extra storage
- are moving from another large screen phone like galaxy note
Go for the One S if:
- you don't like large phones
- you are more prone to dropping things
- would like a battery that can comfortably last more than 24 hours

I cocked up and ordered to my local store, as I assumed with them saying "In Stock" I could skip down there with a wicker basket and collect it - however they have to dispatch a phone to the store (archaic!) which the dates have gone from 2 days on the CPW site, to 1 day when the order was processed to the Yodel dispatch email saying 3 days!
Wish I'd ordered it to my house now! :S

took me 4 days of phone calls before i got my t - mobile pac , kept on being given the run around being passed from person to person saying it would be texted to me in a couple of hours. Ended up getting a direct line and was given it immediately , took 4 days mind and several calls a day

Sky Go works perfectly on my ICS GSII - if I don't use Sky's own version of the app which deliberately* blocks ICS. Get the 1.5 app from XDA (Google it) and it will hopefully work for you.
*The official app worked for a week then they blocked it because of 'lots of problems' - which no-one using it seemed to experience...

Like I said before, the true potential of this smartphone is restricted by the memory capacity it offers. For one to capture 1080p videos and listen to music, it's quite lacking. The One X offers 26 GB available memory to the user, which is better, may be just enough but say on vacation you want to capture a few more photos of shoots more HD memories, you realise you have to empty out your current content to your PC, or upload them to Dropbox (that is only free for 1 year), which by the way will mean you'll be eating into your data quota and possibly incur extortionate roaming charges!
However, if you're a casual user who uses the smartphone for some web browsing, apps and games etc. and an MP3 player to listen to music, a digital camera to take photos and an HD camcorder to shoot videos, i.e. a separate device for each function, then this offer is a very good deal.
Still, not for me, but if the total cost is below £200, then maybe yes.

freemart to bellboys
8 Jun 12#169
Per the deal page, yes.
"and 25GB of Cloud storage at Dropbox for free*"
"*Free for 2 years"
You'll still have at least 2GB at the expiry of the offer period. You can also get other cloud services such as Google Drive (5GB) & Box. Box were giving 50GB for free a while back.

this is going to be my first smart phone so i guess i'll have hours to play with it.
i chose pick up at store as there is not always someone at home.
i went into CPW store at lunch time to ask about MHL port on this phone and the sales guy said it was not capable of being connected to the telly and neither the S2 but he is wrong as i've seen several youtube videos which shows how to connect a MHL adapter to the phone and then to the telly and I know for a certain fact that other people have been using the MHL adapters for S2.

check this mhl connection to telly's HDMI port out guys. this is what it's all about which was why i was waiting for the S2 which used to be the only smart phone the market where you can do this but now the new HTC ones also allow MHL transmission.

I do keep wondering if I'm making the right move... I'm very apprehensive of changing from my iPhone!
I use a MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone at the moment, so hoping I won't lose too much interoperability.
The main thing I'll miss is iMessage though, as I have friends in Amsterdam who I can then text for free very easily.
So much for next day delivery - I ordered at 2pm yesterday and have only had the first email from CPW so the order's not officially accepted yet never mind on it's way to me!
Has anyone else had full acknowledgement or delivery tracking notification?
I went ahead with the online order without entering a PAC - the form said I could phone it in - has anyone tried? (Phone lines unsurprisingly busy with this deal)
Also, does anyone have any idea how long we'll have these weekly offers from CPW?

Fair enough but my point is - I ordered yesterday afternoon and my order's still not been accepted - the CPW email indicates an unspecified delay so at the moment I can't expect to get the phone on Monday.

Just typical, a brilliant deal that is no good to me and Virgin will not match [first time this has happened].
Vodafone reception where I live is unuseable for Internet [I got a Vodafone dongle 2 years ago from CPW and had a hell of a fight to get my money back when it would not conect here].
Virgin are usually pretty good at matching, I am on 500mins + unlmtd Texts + 1 gb for £10-32 rolling month but could do with more data and a new phone. As with others, I am bored with my Orange San Francisco now.
Only T-Mobile/Orange has good data service at home where I use it the most.

really tempted by this but only got the xperia play back in january and yet to use it(still using the htc desire, been meaning to pop in my sim into the play and start using it).
currently on the o2 £15.32 simplicity 300mins, unlim txt, unlim data(I got it before they stoped doing the unlim data, have not upgraded it so still unlim), this offer gives 100mins less than I get at the moment and only 500txt but I've never even reached 200mins in the past couple of yrs(most used was ~180mins last month, usually its around the 100mins mark) and don't txt too much. if quidco pays out this contract would be ~£1/month cheaper than I pay at the moment.
the other problem is my billing date is the 4th of the month so this month has started and need to give 30days notice unless I'm mistaken, want to keep my number and from what's been said on here can only port number to talkmobile when you buy not after(o2 etc allow you to port after, unless I'm mistaken vodafone used to have the only port when buying thing not sure if its still the case with them).

I will never use Orange in the future, never.
I was with them for the last 24 months, during the contract they increased my monthly charge, quoting some silly small print rules.
When you call their customer services , you always get diffrent responses from diffrent staff, and who ever you speak next says the other person wasn't right, he is right, or that you are simply lying
When you ask what is their complaints email address, first you will get told they do not have any, then you will be given a one that when you send an email you get delivery failure notification.
When I finaly managed to find one in google (not from the Orange staff) and wrote an email with specific questions asked, the reply I received was a general one, and not answering my questions, when I replied and asked the same questions again, the replied I received was that all questions were answered in the previous email.
When I called at the end of my contract and asked for a PAC code, I was told I would need to pay for the next two months becasue I should have called yesterday.
Their customer service is non existent, and sometimes you actualy feell they try to wind you up.
Did I also mention their poor internet conection service? It takes ages to load a page, I've googled this issue and found out that Orange has actualy the forst mobile internet service out of all mobile service providers.
People have a bit of respect for yourselves and avoid Orange at all costs, they will entice you with good deal, and when you get locked for 24 months, they will treat you ****
Many people have been dooped like this, google this issue and you will see for yourself.
I promissed myself will never use Orange no matter what , even if they offer me a £0 monthly deal.

picked one up from store yesterday gave them pac code at the store sim they provided has not been activated yet but service has stopped on my old sim ( i think they are moving my number right away just witing to be activated now hopefully with my old phone number ) nice phone brand new and not refurbed cant wait to log to google tho
looks an easy phone to root and add cwm but no s-off yet that will come im sure
but you can still use custom roms with s-on
rpope to philmein

I will try this ROM first
Looks dead easy to install and keeps Sense 4 which I like
it's vodaphone network so if you can't get signal in a vodaphone area where they say signal is great on their map or if the phone has a fault then you can get a refund even if you have put your sim in under consumer law acts.
the 'don't put your sim in' rule is designed for people who just don't like the look of the phone and change their mind. if there is something inherently faulty with the phone, you can get your money back else go to OFCOM and make a formal complaint.

this is just a htc sensation, dont fall for the "marketing bargain hype" and follow the people on this forum following each other like lemmings off a cliff. The screen is 2 year old technology, the ppi is rubbish for a phone in this age. 260 ppi, eerrrrr!!! U will be able to see the pixels, i think a nokia 3310 had better ppi, sony experia is 342 ppi, iphone 4s 326 ppi, htc one x is 312 and the samsung s3 306ppi (pixels per inch) etc. This phone is like a porsche boxster, the poor peoples porsche, this phone is a poor persons s3 or htc one x!!! Dual core, old old technology now!!! Quad is the only way now, so much better!!! A long skinny poor design that will be old fashioned in 6 months, never mind 2 years, there should be a minus in front of the heat figure. Work harder, work longer and get a proper phone!

anyone know if CPW are selling the HTC one S version
S4 snapdragon Processor version and super amoled screen or the S3 snapdragon older version Processor version and downgraded screen amoled screen.
Theres alot of people complaining about HTC dping this as its made the phone les attravtive and has downgraded it to a worse chip and screen
can anyone confirm or test this out as i am interested in this phone but only if it has a S4 and super al screen

what a polava. i am getting very concerned about CPW.
i called them this morning as instructed by their email and was told that they can not go through the card details for payment so will have to cancel my order and start again but that they are now out of stock for the phone. she said that if i order online again i would have to wait for stock to come in.
so i cancelled and went through the website again as i want my tcb. the card was only used for 1p payment and they cause all this trouble over 1p?
i've now used another card. if this transaction does not work again, i am calling it quits and count my chickens that i don't have to deal with CPW. :disappointed:

i also would never go with orange again. I remember the old days. Ring them up and say the phone is broken and they went through a few tests and if it was, one was sent to you via courier.
No they dont even guarantee there phones for 12 months. Its 6 months with them and 6 months with the manufacturer. Plus not to mention most of there cs agents cant even speak english let alone understand a london accent.

My sister got one in store yesterday but they had none in stock said this offer has cleared them all up of stock so they will deliver one for her to pick up on Tuesday.
If it's anything like my HOX this will be a good phone despite smaller size and screens.
I love Sense 4.0 has some great features, and the camera is excellent. Took some lovely shots of Turkey on holiday couple weeks ago and they came out well.
This phone will be fast due to it's S4 processor and out benches the HOX in certain fields.
No experience of TM, but I'm on Vodafone and specifically to me in my home area I get the fastest 3G speeds compared to any other network hopefully TM will be just the same maybe!
In summary this is a cracking deal. Snap these up before they get replaced with the S3 processor but that will bring an HD screen to it so who know's how it'll perform.

Can I just correct you on something. It DOES have 1Gb of memory. You need to understand the difference between memory (ie, RAM) and storage of which it does have 16Gb (11Gb usable)
Teenageebayer
10 Jun 12#311
Hi, i know the difference. I was comparing it to the sensation, so this has 16gb 'storage' 11gb usable and i was saying that the sensation has 1gb usable inbuilt storage. I was comparing this to the sensation, i apologise if this wasn't made clear.

Thanks OP Got mine yesterday
I went to my local Carphone Warehouse store to purchase so No Quid co
I had wanted to see & have a play with handset before deciding
Went with the £20 400 minutes option,
Shop staff excellent, knowledgeable helpful but not pushy.
Its a lovely phone I have changed from the HTC Desire S which I loved
My current 3 Contract had ended and this was to good a deal to miss re handset and tariff .
Good strong signal from Talk Mobile at my home and out and about.
Talk Mobile Customer service call centre staff also seemed good when I made an enquiry today
so Fantastic handset tariff and good aftercare from a UK call centre Happy days!!!!

also don't judge the call centre cs by just one call, wait till you've had to deal with them more.
don't see why not, it's usually if you want to downgrade that you have to wait x number of months(usually half way through the contract) before you can downgrade). tho saying that I've not had any experience with talkmobile nor read up on if they allow upgrading/downgrading etc.

Yes I am sure i went to Carphone Warehouse Dunfermline store and am just saying it how it was!!!!
FACT
I did receive good service from both CPW store staff yesterday in their store and also when i called Talk mobile customer service staff this morning to clarify a couple of things.
I have also purchased many pay as you go handsets from CPW for my kids and received good product/tariff advice from
non pushy sales assistants who allow me to make an informed decision
that has been my experience.
We are all quick to complain when the service is bad etc so credit where its Due.
To clarify my Uk call centre comment
I have just spent the last 6 months trying to resolve a network/connection issue with 3s customer service department I tallied up the time I have spent on the various calls in Excess of 6hrs to 5 different individuals before it was resolved via
a 3 customer services manager who took ownership and resolved my issues before i lost the will to live!!

I have recently found out that on Orange (I'm on their Dolphin £7 tarrif) they charge you for accessing your voicemail EVEN IF YOU PHONE FROM A NON-ORANGE PHONE!!!.
Their customer support is ok though in my experience, and they refunded me the charges, but THEY'RE STILL DOING IT which means at the end of every month, I have to tot up all calls made from my Ovivo SIM to my Orange answerphone (a free call on Ovivo, ie, included in my 200 mins allowance/month, it's +447973100123 then one's PIN) and get Orange to put an "Adjustment" on my Orange account.
IOW, imv, Orange are most likely overcharging lots of people, all those who access their Orange VM from non-Orange phones.

bellboys to Just Wondering
11 Jun 12#354
No idea on the tethering but here's the wording on the unlimited internet. Looks like genuinely unlimited....so far!

"in the unlikely event they can not fulfil the order, we will let me know of alternative options." mmmm....i'll wait and see.
hope this deal does not turn out to be a big boo boo and CPW knows something about these phones that we don't. They were released to UK stores on 22 April this year so you got to worry why are they already on special offer. Is CPW / HTC trying to shift them before people have time to find out about inherent problems?
i am hoping it's more that talkmobile is trying to gain new customers so are subsidising the phone more than other operators rather than the former.

Depends what is meant by tatty I suppose. IME CPW send these phones in, essentially, a plastic bag so there's every chance it will be a tad battered by the time it gets to you. But if the tattiness suggests a previously returned item I wouldn't be happy.

Rustybucket to Gavin01
12 Jun 12#439
The battery is a 1650 mAh Lithium Ion (Li-ion). If leaving it overnight ruins the battery, the phone and its charging circuit are faulty.
The salesman is frankly making things up, or has listened to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Once the battery is full, the phone will cease to charge it. Li-ion are also very stable and robust. They can be left far longer than Ni-Cad batteries used to and still hold a charge and don't suffer from the memory problems of older battery technology. This means you can charge it and you don't have to run it flat before you recharge again. Ni-Cad were terrible for this and would often refuse to last anything like as long as they first did.
Don't waste your time, timing a charge. Life's too short.
PulseTurbo
11 Jun 12#367
You don't get urBeats headphones with the One X, either. It comes with the same headphones as the One S.
I'd not worry about charging it overnight either. Batteries have obviously come on a long way since the salesman last sold anything, as this hasn't been a concern for a number of years.
I should be getting the proper urBeats headphones with mine.

Ordered on Sunday evening, Quidco has tracked. Received email confirmation and dispatch emails from CPW. Rang them this morning to add my PAC code, no problem. Guy said they should be back in stock in the next few days, so should receive the phone by the end of the week;) I'm a big apple fan, but this deals is a no brainer for a phone with similar specs.

this is odd as i made my order on sunday afternoon and got an email this afternoon to say that they have accepted my order and will dispatch when they have new stock at the warehouse with the caveat that they will discuss alternatives if they don't get new stock.

Well mine arrived at about 2 o clock. I charged it till the light went green, inserted the SIM and switched it on at 6ish.
Still waiting for the SIM to register...
Also, I ordered online with my PAC but the paperwork I've received with the phone suggests that I've got a new number. Guess I'll find out when the SIM registers.

11 Jun 12#414
I also ported number over, invoice has my old number on it so I guess they recognise the PAC code request. I've had my sim in for a few hours and its not registering, wonder how long it takes?. Do i need to turn of old sim in my existing phone off?. last time i ported a number the new sim initially registered with a new number and then automatically flipped over to the old one (and the old sim stopped working)
Currently like the guy above (no signal)...old phone (with 02) and old number (with old sim) working still.

Hi
I posted here on Saturday sharing my experience of purchasing this deal/ handset in store at the
Dunfermline Branch of CPW)
As mentioned I got good service in store and phone was up and running within minutes the staff even helped me
sort out my settings move my contacts from old to new handset ( my teenagers usually do that for me)
Number transfer didint go as planned but that was down to 3 and Not CPW
3 didint sort out my PAC code in time
that has now been resolved so back to CPW today and a huge thanks to Laura the branch manager at
CPW Dunfermline who today helped me sort out the whole sorry mess and fingers crossed my service will transfer over in the next day or so letting me keep my old number.
I Noted posts on here mentioning a possible handset charge, my experience was there has been no mention verbally or on the sales paperwork which i read over and signed in store..
For me buying instore without cashback has proved well worth it as the service i have had over the last few days was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. So credit where its due
Outcome I now have a fab new phone with excellent signal coverage.
I hope all of you who ordered online that are still waiting for your handsets get them ok.
thanks again to OP

For those who have their phone.... can you answer a question please?
Can you tell me if the removable paet of the cover at the top of the phone (the bit you remove to put the SIM card in) has a slit near the power button? I'm not sure if this is a fault or it's meant to help it fit around the button. Either way it was immediately noticeable on my handset as part of the cover was protruding up and I had to push it back flush.
If you've no idea what I'm talking about then I take it yours doesn't have this slit thing.
Sockpuppetuk to arden
11 Jun 12#426

About billing....
I looked on the talkmobile website but couldn't find details of the tariff we're on. It looks like we'll be setup for online billing, opting for paper bills is £1.50 extra per month. So no idea yet if they charge for voicemail or the charges for using additional minutes / texts. Has anyone spotted this?
arden
11 Jun 12#429
Thanks - just to confirm, I don't mean the big slot that you use to pry off the top section of the back cover. It's the thin bit of plastic to the side, around the power button - there's a slit in that from the power button to the edge of the cover. I can't get it to show up or I'd post a photo. When I took the phone out of the box part of this thin bit of plastic needed to be pushed back flush as it was jutting out. I dunno if the thin bit of plastic is cracked or if it's meant to be like that.

This phone has been a pain in the **** for me with it's very weak signal... I can't even put it in my pocket for fear of it dropping out. Sorting my return out tomorrow. This is on Vodafone, whose signal is generally decent where I am (West Sussex), and has been fine on all my phone previous to this. Mine wouldnt turn on a moment ago!!!!
had to do this.........
Resolution steps
To fix the device not responding or turning on, follow these steps:
Remove the back cover over the SIM card, and put it back on securely. It should be flat with the top of the device, or the Power key won't respond
Connect the charging cable to the device, and plug it into a wall outlet.
Note: Do not charge using a USB connection or computer if you are having this problem. Also, charge with the HTC charger included with the device.
Allow the device to charge for 30 minutes:
Within 5 minutes of charging, the LED should start flashing green.
Within 10 minutes of charging, the LED should stay a steady green.
Continue charging for 30 minutes.
After charging with the device turned off, press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds.
Release the Power button.
Press the Power button again for one full second, and release it.
Wait a few seconds for the device to turn on.
Note: If the device turns on, check battery indicator for the amount of charge the device has. If the battery is less than 100%, continue charging until it is full.
If the device remains unresponsive or cannot turn on, continue troubleshooting: Cannot turn on or charge device: Android.

this is the sort of thing i mean when i say i hope CPW / HTC don't know something about this phone that we don't. people may call me paranoid but it is pretty obvious that they are getting rid of this model which was only released on 22 april this year, but i don't know why.
when a phone does intermitent silly things, it's difficult to claim under faulty as it may work fine when you bring it into the shop for repair.
also there may be technical inability with the phone that you find out when you have got familiar with it that you can't really call faulty, just the phone is crap.
if people have trouble please post as those of us who have not yet received the phone can still cancel the order.

its now started magically working!!! maybe the change of networks threw my phone, I did how ever have to put in the internet details manually,.
Feels like I'm trolling the thread or something but I'm really not, I'm just a gutted new HTC One S owner. The signal strength is so poor, I'm too worried to carry it in my pocket as I know it'll drop out. Data connection is currently laughable. mutley1
12 Jun 12#463
could it be that you got a rogue one? there's always a faulty one in a big batch if the manufacturer quality control is not great.
what operator are you with? talkmobile? it may be the operator or the sim that is faulty. i had similar problem with t-mobile phone cutting out all the time and i have to take sim out and put back in. but it turned out to be the sim as i put a brand new t-mobile sim in and it worked fine.

Talkmobile works off the vodafone network so if you get a good signal on voda you should be fine.
As others have said only really disadvantages is the low fixed memory, 11gb usable so dont expect to record long hd movies and expected to have room for you mp3 collection.
Lastly the fixed battery is a big disadvantaged if you like to carry a spare battery around for them just in case moments.
GS2 is still up there in terms of what it can do so you wont be disappointed, but you cant really turn down this deal as its pretty much the best you are going to get for recently released high end mobile, even the gs2 is around this price and that been around awhile now.

Well, it looks like I won't be joining you lot now.
I just received my One S from Vodafone, and it is grey, not black. It's also scratched.
I called up, and they've offered me a One X as a direct swap, so I've gone for that. I was really looking forward to the One S, too.
johnson293
12 Jun 12#488
Still deciding whether to go for this, as I have seen an alternative offer.
Its through Phones4U, and its for a HTC One S, in either black or grey, and the tarriff on offer is the Orange Panther, £15.50 for 24 months.
It has 50 minutes, 3000 texts but only 250MB data, but also includes one orange 'swappable', one of which is Sky Sports mobile.
The inclusive minutes/texts on both deals would suit me, its the data i'm unsure of. How much in reality, is 250mb of mobile data usage? And is Orange potentially any better/worse than Talkmobile?
Cheers again for any advice offered.

I've not ported a number so am up and running out of the box. CPW were as useless as ever. Branch opened 15 minutes late with no apology, staff didn't know how to process the collection and it look 20 minutes to do a basic ID check and find the phone. Hopefully it'll all be problem free and I won't have to use their branches again. I am concerned about these reported poor signal issues but my initial impressions are great and it's still a big upgrade from my problem free, but sadly ageing, Hero.
bellboys
12 Jun 12#492
I can actually refute this in talkmobile's case as the guy I spoke to in CS earlier stated they DO NOT 'pro rata' the calls/texts so effectively we've got 200 mins and 500 texts to use before the 15th!!

merkin51
12 Jun 12#495
I'm going to request a replacement from Dialaphone to see if I did just get a duff one, but I highly doubt it. No smoke without fire and all that, there are reports of poor signal strength on the One S all across the web. The impression I get is that if you're in an area where your carrier's signal is just good but not great (say constant 3/5 bars on other phones), then you could be in trouble with the One S. Mine is currently staring at me with 1/5 bars on Vodafone, often dips to 0/5 but still holds onto a connection, then randomly completely drops. My last phone, HTC Hero, was always solid on Vodafone.

We should always be cynical when it comes to these companies but I can only relay what the talkmobile CS rep told me. He did state the first month's bill will be slightly more than £16 due to the bit of line rental due from today unti the 15th but he was adamant that the 200 mins/500 texts allowance wasn't reduced pro rata so that's what we have got to use until the 15th. Is it safer to simply go to the store and get this phone with contract rather than placing an online order?
The deal ends on Thursday. What is the guarantee that they will honour "pre-order" orders placed today or tomorrow - the phone is not in stock.
The thing is that Quidco or TCB will then not be an option.
bellboys
12 Jun 121#508
Yes, I think that is correct. BTW, I rang CS again and spoke to another bod and he also confirmed they do not 'pro rata' the allowance for part months - no matter where you start in the billing period you get the full 200 mins/500 texts etc.even if you have only one day to the new billing period. Have to say that's very unusual (and welcome).

I have just been looking at getting 2 of these for the lad and the Mrs, I have conflicting info with regards number porting... one says I can't if buying on line? but on CFW web site it gives the option to enter pac code.
Can any one clarify please, also it says pre order for 20th June now so they won't transfer my number before I receive the phone will they??

Has anyone ordered online for collection in store? I did ask the question before but didn't really get an answer, I've had an email to say my order is ready to be picked up. Does that mean I've passed the credit check? Or do they do one when you pick it up.
Rustybucket to kellyinyourface
12 Jun 12#521
Yes, if you've reached this stage, you've passed the credit check. Both my wife and I ordered a phone each on Sunday afternoon. I got my delivery to store confirmation yesterday afternoon, but my wife is still waiting on hers to be despatched. We phoned up CS and apparently she did pass the credit check, but they are currently out of stock, but had chosen not to notify her of this fact by email or text.
We haven't been notified of any intent to cancel because of low stock, so that must be a new thing Carphone Warehouse are doing to engender lots of lovely, good feeling from people trying to get a decent deal that they are still advertising. /sarcasm

Last question before I potentially order this (or the Orange deal at Phones4u)...
Does anyone have any experience of TalkMobile/Vodafones service for calls/data in the Newcastle upon Tyne area?
Their coverage map is a bit patchy, whereas the Orange map looks better. But the orange deal only has 250mb inclusive data, and I'm worried that wont be enough for checking FB, twitter and Emails.
Can anyone give a steer on the data usage, and how that might pan out?
Cheers

To top it up the generic phones get quick & regular software updates from HTC...

If I transfer my number, using a PAC code, will someone else still be able to use my old contract\phone?
If so how do I get a number for the old contract/phone? Thanks.
If I transfer a number though, will I have to wait to use it anyway?
OnlyWould have gone for this but just ordered the Sim free Prada from Expansys at bargain £225 as it's within a hair of the Galaxy S2 in most areas and i've ditched the Xperia Play and will NEVER buy a Sony again due to their backtracking claiming it wasn't powerful enough to run ICS after promising it would be upgraded! (Note that they are upgrading the Xperia Mini pro which is the same/lower internals so it's an excuse to help launch their playstation certified campaign, they'll never get my business again though!)
If you have cancelled the contract, how can you continue to use it? What if you went over the number of minutes, how would you pay the extra costs?
I think it was given as a way of buying the phone cheaper than on PAYG/sim free. A silly way if you ask me, but still a way.
I'm pretty sure it's right though.
I've opted to collect it from store in the hope they will find one for me this weekend! Do they call you to let you know when it's in?
I'm looking forward to replacing my iPhone 3GS with this!
Last night it was the same contract with £219.99 upfront costs!! Bargain
The only drawback for me is the 200 minutes because Talkmobile prices are very high once you go over that.
My son wanted this phone for his 16th Birthday so I think I'll be ordering this one.
how long should it take for something to show up in quid co?
I'm changing to this from an iPhone.
I didn't realise it came with a micro sim. Trouble is, the sim from this is to go in my partner's phone, which has a normal sim. I have a normal sim, to put in this phone! Nightmare...
I'm fairly confident I can get a micro sim in store in Vodafone, but can I do the same for a normal sim from CPW?
Although I highly doubt phones with a removal battery and SD slot have inferior build quality.
Lack of SD card slot is a big thing for some people, myself included. I have a lot of music that I like to carry around.
any ideas people?
cheers
ps i ordered it to store and it said it takes 2 days lol! i should of just walked to the store with my passport and done it there.
Just had a quick browse on ebay:
Cutter is about £3
2 adapters = £2
http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/includes/static_html/PayMonthlyFairUsage.htm
I may well cancel mine if I can't swap sims easily. I don't fancy the hassle!
My bigger concern is, and always was, CPW though. Will they swap a micro sim for a normal sim in store?
Anybody know the differences please?
Cheers
but
when I rung Orange for my PAC, they (almost) matched it (needed £50 up front - but got more minuites), so I'm staying for another 2 years, and will moan about their bloat-ware all that time.......

One X on T-Mob with e2save, options:
600 mins, unltd text & 250mb or 300 mins, unltd text & 750mb
Both effective £19.50 per month after cashback plus possible £30 Quidco!
I'm not too fussed about net as will be passing SIM to daughter and putting my Voda SIM in it. On that note does anyone know if e2save phones come unlocked? If not are the One X easy and more importantly cheap to unlock?
HELP!!!
Ideally something which I don't have to remove, and something as thin as possible.
Looks good for £10.55, not the cheapest but stand is useful plus nice and thin clipon....
Quidco £35 now tracking. 1hr 30mins after transaction.
Is this handset one of the few android handsets that Sky Go works on?
Skygo depends on what version of ics it has? if it has the most upto date it wont work (need confirming).
If it has the earlier version you can get a modified apk which by all account should work.
then stfu

Got my PAC code and have gone for this deal through Quidco ... exactly the same allowances but £4pm per month cheaper and it comes with a nice new phone.
Thanks OP
I cocked up and ordered to my local store, as I assumed with them saying "In Stock" I could skip down there with a wicker basket and collect it - however they have to dispatch a phone to the store (archaic!) which the dates have gone from 2 days on the CPW site, to 1 day when the order was processed to the Yodel dispatch email saying 3 days!
Wish I'd ordered it to my house now! :S
Not sure about talkmobile
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/htc-one-s-free-handset-12-month-vodafone-contract-36-per-month-possibly-22-83-after-1238437
It's the 12 month bit selling it to me, really don't like going over 12 months. Only had 18 month before and not sure want 24 month - more like a sentence than a contract!
*The official app worked for a week then they blocked it because of 'lots of problems' - which no-one using it seemed to experience...
Re the deal - heat added and phone purchased for the old folks
However, if you're a casual user who uses the smartphone for some web browsing, apps and games etc. and an MP3 player to listen to music, a digital camera to take photos and an HD camcorder to shoot videos, i.e. a separate device for each function, then this offer is a very good deal.
Still, not for me, but if the total cost is below £200, then maybe yes.
"and 25GB of Cloud storage at Dropbox for free*"
"*Free for 2 years"
You'll still have at least 2GB at the expiry of the offer period. You can also get other cloud services such as Google Drive (5GB) & Box. Box were giving 50GB for free a while back.
we all like a new phone to play with
Thanks
Find it here but then remember Quidco and go direct!
As I've still a month left on my giffgaff goody bag and £26 credit...I thought I'd use that up first then port over.
Whoops big time! *fingers crossed for a memorable number from Talkmobile like my current one*
Or get it and tell Talkmobile you're cancelling unless they port your number and if they don't cancel!
This is not a hot deal!
That phone is rubbish:
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/palm-pixi-plus-review-49305709/
this is going to be my first smart phone so i guess i'll have hours to play with it.
i chose pick up at store as there is not always someone at home.
i went into CPW store at lunch time to ask about MHL port on this phone and the sales guy said it was not capable of being connected to the telly and neither the S2 but he is wrong as i've seen several youtube videos which shows how to connect a MHL adapter to the phone and then to the telly and I know for a certain fact that other people have been using the MHL adapters for S2.
The phone is too small to watch movies, so there is no need to keep films on it. If you have a massive music collection just use Google Music. Really it is a great phone, unless you really need a lot of space.
I bought my mum Galaxy Note last month, the camera is truly amazing. What is the camera on this one?
Built in memory is only 16GB with under 12GB usable.
thanks for the info.

I recently called up orange & they give it over the phone.
Different company I know, but worth a shot if you wanna keep your old number.
I use a MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone at the moment, so hoping I won't lose too much interoperability.
The main thing I'll miss is iMessage though, as I have friends in Amsterdam who I can then text for free very easily.

Sp next day delivery won't happen for me
not received 2nd email yet. anyone else got an email from them to say that the order has been accepted and will be delivered to store / home?
TCB tracked fine for me at £35.35. yippppeeeee....
Fair enough but my point is - I ordered yesterday afternoon and my order's still not been accepted - the CPW email indicates an unspecified delay so at the moment I can't expect to get the phone on Monday.
TBH I think this is the sort of thing that people will want to know when weighing up whether to order online and get cashback vs porting a PAC and buying instore today
I did have to call as the card I used was blocked on fraud query so used another one yesterday at about 4:30
The email about that was at 15:00 so they must have a lot of them to work through

It sounds like yesterday's orders are being sent around 24 hours after ordering.
BT does that for new landline customers.
As its the vodafone network they use you can use a checker to see what coverage you have near you.
Any ideas anyone? :disappointed:

14 day trial then $4.99 in app purchase
No root required etc
damn them to hades.
currently on the o2 £15.32 simplicity 300mins, unlim txt, unlim data(I got it before they stoped doing the unlim data, have not upgraded it so still unlim), this offer gives 100mins less than I get at the moment and only 500txt but I've never even reached 200mins in the past couple of yrs(most used was ~180mins last month, usually its around the 100mins mark) and don't txt too much. if quidco pays out this contract would be ~£1/month cheaper than I pay at the moment.
the other problem is my billing date is the 4th of the month so this month has started and need to give 30days notice unless I'm mistaken, want to keep my number and from what's been said on here can only port number to talkmobile when you buy not after(o2 etc allow you to port after, unless I'm mistaken vodafone used to have the only port when buying thing not sure if its still the case with them).
got back in just now only to receive an email to say that my credit card which i had used to pay for the first month had bounced. i am gutted as i can't call them until tomorrow now.
bloody credit card company. i think it may be CPW's blooming sales software as my card is a mastercard and it normally ask me to put in a password for online purchases but this was never asked when i put in my order last night.
I should get mine Tuesday, but I'm out until 1pm at least! Fingers crossed it's one of those deliveries which comes at the end of the day!
not bad?
I promissed myself will never use Orange no matter what , even if they offer me a £0 monthly deal.
scratch that - just checked and it was after 45 mins.
I could sell the desire(cex says £75 for good condition, mine is no longer mint as ha a couple of small dents) but the number porting issue(this offer plus the xperia play stopping me from going for it.
been reading up about the signal issues with this phone , that some people have experinced , but notice over on XDA forums that custom roms dont seem to be suffering this problem and some ppl have fixed the issue by editing some of the lines of code in the boot up file. fingers crossed no issue .
Excellent price
some people have posted that they have had these for a while and no problem.

i called them this morning as instructed by their email and was told that they can not go through the card details for payment so will have to cancel my order and start again but that they are now out of stock for the phone. she said that if i order online again i would have to wait for stock to come in.
so i cancelled and went through the website again as i want my tcb. the card was only used for 1p payment and they cause all this trouble over 1p?
i've now used another card. if this transaction does not work again, i am calling it quits and count my chickens that i don't have to deal with CPW. :disappointed:
No they dont even guarantee there phones for 12 months. Its 6 months with them and 6 months with the manufacturer. Plus not to mention most of there cs agents cant even speak english let alone understand a london accent.
they are now bought by t-mobile so don't know if they got any better as t-mobile is very good with customer service.
If its not you have the right to take it back and ask for one with the specs they advertise......
First new phone purchase in 15 years. Say bye bye nokia 8310 :-(
is there an echo in here?
In reply to your message
Yes I am sure i went to Carphone Warehouse Dunfermline store and am just saying it how it was!!!!
FACT
I did receive good service from both CPW store staff yesterday in their store and also when i called Talk mobile customer service staff this morning to clarify a couple of things.
I have also purchased many pay as you go handsets from CPW for my kids and received good product/tariff advice from
non pushy sales assistants who allow me to make an informed decision
that has been my experience.
We are all quick to complain when the service is bad etc so credit where its Due.
To clarify my Uk call centre comment
I have just spent the last 6 months trying to resolve a network/connection issue with 3s customer service department I tallied up the time I have spent on the various calls in Excess of 6hrs to 5 different individuals before it was resolved via
a 3 customer services manager who took ownership and resolved my issues before i lost the will to live!!
call centreservice staff
as for the call centre I see where you're coming from if you're comparing it to 3, but as I said its best not to judge it already(tho hopefully over the next 24 months you get similar experience).
dont ask ! i made the same mistake........should of just walked to store and done it that way
TBH, my attention span is very short so i am getting bored with this phone deal already before i have even got it so not too bothered if it does not go through.
a better deal is always around the corner, namely same deal with S2 and with a better sales team. :innocent:
the phone is out of stock from most shops and their websales and so i am uncertain if they are telling porkies when they say dispatched when really nothing has been available to send.
Whether that means it's enroute to Manchester or its coming out if Manchester and I didn't get an update between Lichfield and Manchester I don't know...but its moved! and I'm taking my passport into work just in case
And I ordered Friday morning 11.30ish.
I am assuming I'm also getting free urBeats headphones with my phone, as advertised on the Vodafone website, which is nice. A massive negative though is that you lot will have beautiful unlocked, unbranded handsets. Mine will be full of Vodafone bloatware and locked!
yay!
cant wait
"Parcel data received awaiting coll."
from 2 days then went straight to
"Out for delivery"
So Yodel's status updates may be a bit infrequent
Their customer support is ok though in my experience, and they refunded me the charges, but THEY'RE STILL DOING IT which means at the end of every month, I have to tot up all calls made from my Ovivo SIM to my Orange answerphone (a free call on Ovivo, ie, included in my 200 mins allowance/month, it's +447973100123 then one's PIN) and get Orange to put an "Adjustment" on my Orange account.
IOW, imv, Orange are most likely overcharging lots of people, all those who access their Orange VM from non-Orange phones.
Has anyone else moved over from Giffgaff? I put my PAC code in but as Giffgaff isn't an option in the network selection dropdown box I just put O2 instead.
I'm receiving mine tomorrow from Vodafone, so will report back (though as I say, mine will be filled with bloatware).
and has anyone tethered before using the unlimited internet , i believe its not allow , but hey
http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/help/termsandconditions.html
Unlimited Internet (included in tariff allowance)
Some Pay Monthly contracts include "Unlimited" data access as part of the tariff allowance.
There is no limit on mobile internet usage on contracts which include "Unlimited" data access. However if we feel that your data usage is so excessive that other customers are detrimentally affected and/or we are concerned about fraud, we may introduce a fair use policy. If we publish a policy we will let you know. Any such policy may change from time to time, including where we introduce new Services which may require certain rules to ensure such new Services can be enjoyed by our customers. If, once we have implemented such a policy, your use of the Service is excessive, is causing problems for other users and you continue to use the Service excessively we may suspend all or some of the Services.
hope this deal does not turn out to be a big boo boo and CPW knows something about these phones that we don't. They were released to UK stores on 22 April this year so you got to worry why are they already on special offer. Is CPW / HTC trying to shift them before people have time to find out about inherent problems?
i am hoping it's more that talkmobile is trying to gain new customers so are subsidising the phone more than other operators rather than the former.
still waiting for sim to activate......
sales man said dont leave this phones on overnight to charge as you ruin the battery.......
1st charge 8 hours so 10pm for me...
then after that just charge it till its full and unplug it......
If you like your music dont get this one as the supplied headphones are absolute crap compared to the beats one you get with the one x
I'd not worry about charging it overnight either. Batteries have obviously come on a long way since the salesman last sold anything, as this hasn't been a concern for a number of years.
I should be getting the proper urBeats headphones with mine.
Did it take long, or is it "sneak out of work for 5 minutes" able? *cough*
I'm only a couple of minutes walk away
On the tracking info for yodel I'm at this stage:

Due to go out for half an hour soon so I expect it will turn up then.
Not sure what they do if you are not in?
Have registered it etc just waiting for it to appear on the google store.....
Its a lovely thing to hold............
OOooo its downloading loads of apps over WiFi......:sunglasses::innocent:
Dear MR BELLBOYS,
Your order has been dispatched from Carphone Warehouse - Order Number ###########
Thank you for ordering from The Carphone Warehouse.
Is this just a standard email even though the phone isn't in stock or is it really soon to be on its way?
Does that mean my credit check passed or does it just mean they have one in store for me and I will have to go through the whole credit check process because I applied for orange a few months back and was turned down, it's really embarrassing,
If anyone can help
Well the options all there have tried it yet! Lol
i am well jealous that you already have a dispatch email and tracking number when you only ordered this morning?
as I said I'm seriously tempted but will have to hold off for time being
Cheers
HAPPY DAYS :sunglasses:
Anyone successfully used quidco & ported their number?
Still waiting for the SIM to register...
Also, I ordered online with my PAC but the paperwork I've received with the phone suggests that I've got a new number. Guess I'll find out when the SIM registers.
Currently like the guy above (no signal)...old phone (with 02) and old number (with old sim) working still.
Cheers
Cheers
Doesnt matter that much as ive cut my t mobile full size one down and whacked it in.
Dropbox is a bit of faff as you have to do 5 things before it lets you have the upgrade.
Dont whether to flash a new rom yet or just leave it:)
PS anyone know how you get billed ? will i be billed £16 in one months time?
Oh and do talk mobile have a online account bit so you can keep track of usage.
Can you tell me if the removable paet of the cover at the top of the phone (the bit you remove to put the SIM card in) has a slit near the power button? I'm not sure if this is a fault or it's meant to help it fit around the button. Either way it was immediately noticeable on my handset as part of the cover was protruding up and I had to push it back flush.
If you've no idea what I'm talking about then I take it yours doesn't have this slit thing.
Would be a right pain otherwise.
(Well I can as I know that one was rickety but...wow!)
Thanks Ameet80uk
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/reported-design-flaws-hit-htc-one-s-and-one-x-handsets-1075640
Im still waiting for sim to activate. Rung them and they said vodafones systems crashed at the weekend so there is a backlog.
Nice enough people, also if you ring up and ask them to make you a account mycarphonewarehouse
also theres a app called bill angel that helps with billing and allowance apparently
Also you will get charged extra on your first bill for part monthly usage.
EDIT: Also its 31p + vat after allowance!!!!!!!!!so dont get stung.
EDIT2: does voicemail come out of allowance
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/HTC-ONE-S-KM004-FCON
Long wait then I guess...
PS according to gsmarena, as of 11/4/12 the One S was the fastest mobile on the market!

Also only get edge signal any where i go at the moment:(
had to do this.........
I expect I can but wanted to check.
(I also used the Desire S charger for my kindle as well - great to have one charge to charge everything)
when a phone does intermitent silly things, it's difficult to claim under faulty as it may work fine when you bring it into the shop for repair.
also there may be technical inability with the phone that you find out when you have got familiar with it that you can't really call faulty, just the phone is crap.
if people have trouble please post as those of us who have not yet received the phone can still cancel the order.

Feels like I'm trolling the thread or something but I'm really not, I'm just a gutted new HTC One S owner. The signal strength is so poor, I'm too worried to carry it in my pocket as I know it'll drop out. Data connection is currently laughable. I got mine on a recent HUK Dialaphone offer and can still cancel the contract or ask for a different phone so it's not the end of the world, but it's a big disappointment.
Anyone know how to get sky go working?
PS Internet seems mighty fast at the moment and I'm in an area with supposedly dodgy online speeds according to talkmobile.
what operator are you with? talkmobile? it may be the operator or the sim that is faulty. i had similar problem with t-mobile phone cutting out all the time and i have to take sim out and put back in. but it turned out to be the sim as i put a brand new t-mobile sim in and it worked fine.
Should be OK, checker says so, but then "everyone lies..."
Talkmobile - any good?
HTC One S - better than the Samsung Galaxy SII?
Cheers
The One S is the fastest mobile phone out right now.
Got any more details?
edit:
The "old" phone i had with JUST got kicked off the "old" network (wont register), so the new phone (at home) might be on for me when i get back!
is this just there way of saying you can use the internet indoors or is it like oranges connect to wireless for calls and messages if you have no signal?
BTW when i first got my phone and unlocked it i got the animated weather thing. Now i have to unlock the phone and touch the weather before i get the animation.
for general discussion.
yes i did mention an app................Not used it but its what the lady on the phone said to use. Bill Angel
Anyone know how to get dropbox to upload into dated folders surely there is way otherwise you have masses of pics all under one bit.
I just received my One S from Vodafone, and it is grey, not black. It's also scratched.
I called up, and they've offered me a One X as a direct swap, so I've gone for that. I was really looking forward to the One S, too.
Has anyone had text saying the new allowance starts on the 15 of each month? , so what happens from now till the 15th? Is that free or is it a small bill?
Can anyone confirm?
The deal ends on Thursday. What is the guarantee that they will honour "pre-order" orders placed today or tomorrow - the phone is not in stock.
The thing is that Quidco or TCB will then not be an option.
Can any one clarify please, also it says pre order for 20th June now so they won't transfer my number before I receive the phone will they??
Cheers
We haven't been notified of any intent to cancel because of low stock, so that must be a new thing Carphone Warehouse are doing to engender lots of lovely, good feeling from people trying to get a decent deal that they are still advertising. /sarcasm
Annoying as it's still showing as available on their website
Thanks
Best to call them. (their free number 0800 0855900)
Cheers
HTH
Bellboys isnt that what i said? you get charged £3 something until the 1st or 2nd which is the billing date but in that time you have your full allowance to use. Log in to mycarphonewarehouse.com and you can see it all.
so just to clarify everyone can use there allowance and they wont be charged. This can be clarified once you make an account at mycarphonewarehouse.com
