Great price, the build quality is excellent on this phone (although the black 'paint' can scratch off).

if only it had a Micro Sd card slot as the S4 dual core should spank old tech quad cores (think american muscle car vs Porche carrera!) I filled up 21gb just with Apps/games, although the lmimited user memory on the SE Play is a pain!

OnlyWould have gone for this but just ordered the Sim free Prada from Expansys at bargain £225 as it's within a hair of the Galaxy S2 in most areas and i've ditched the Xperia Play and will NEVER buy a Sony again due to their backtracking claiming it wasn't powerful enough to run ICS after promising it would be upgraded! (Note that they are upgrading the Xperia Mini pro which is the same/lower internals so it's an excuse to help launch their playstation certified campaign, they'll never get my business again though!)

I don't think you can still use the contract after you pay up on it, you are paying that fee to cancel the contract.

If you have cancelled the contract, how can you continue to use it? What if you went over the number of minutes, how would you pay the extra costs?

I think it was given as a way of buying the phone cheaper than on PAYG/sim free. A silly way if you ask me, but still a way.

I'm half way through a 24 month contract with them, HTC Wildfire, 200 mins, 500 texts and unlimited internet at £12 a month, can't fault it at all, if my contract was closer to finishing I would definitely go for this!

It does sound like a good deal but the biggest let down is the fact that only 11 GB of memory is available to the user,no expandable memory card slot and non-replaceable battery. So if you're looking to put music and shoot/record photos & videos then it's not enough. Also if the handset crashes and the reset button isn't responding then you're stuck, you can't take out the battery! I'm holding out for a different model.

For me, the negative points are positive points. I don't want an SD card slot (although inside the phone would be OK), and I definitely don't want a removable battery. I like unibody!

The X has a bigger and better screen, but worse batter life.

I'm very sure. It's well documented on the net that O2 still charge VAT when cancelling early. Whereas Orange don't.

Question is do I go for this or:

One X - 4.7 inch, 1280x720, quad core processor, polycarbonate unibody shell (hard plastic) 32Gb storage
One S - 4.3 inch, 960x540, dual core 1.5Mhz processor, anodized aluminium unibody shell (hard aluminium) 16Gb storage

Both are thin and relatively light compared to other phones
One S is probably a bit more durable because it's lighter and has anodized aluminium casing but both are strong
Phone speed is actually about the same, the extra power in the One X is needed for the higher res. screen
One X screen is better (though both are excellent)
One S definitely has better battery life, though both are an improvement on say the HTC Desire

I would go for the One X if:
- you need the extra storage
- are moving from another large screen phone like galaxy note

Go for the One S if:
- you don't like large phones
- you are more prone to dropping things
- would like a battery that can comfortably last more than 24 hours

You should know that normal SIM cards will not fit in this, you need a micro-SIM!

took me 4 days of phone calls before i got my t - mobile pac , kept on being given the run around being passed from person to person saying it would be texted to me in a couple of hours. Ended up getting a direct line and was given it immediately , took 4 days mind and several calls a day

typical got this through tmobile at £15.50 a month for 100 mins u/l texts and 250mb internet. the phone is impressive much thinner and lighter than my evo 3d and sexier than my hd2.

Sky Go works perfectly on my ICS GSII - if I don't use Sky's own version of the app which deliberately* blocks ICS. Get the 1.5 app from XDA (Google it) and it will hopefully work for you.

*The official app worked for a week then they blocked it because of 'lots of problems' - which no-one using it seemed to experience...

Like I said before, the true potential of this smartphone is restricted by the memory capacity it offers. For one to capture 1080p videos and listen to music, it's quite lacking. The One X offers 26 GB available memory to the user, which is better, may be just enough but say on vacation you want to capture a few more photos of shoots more HD memories, you realise you have to empty out your current content to your PC, or upload them to Dropbox (that is only free for 1 year), which by the way will mean you'll be eating into your data quota and possibly incur extortionate roaming charges!

However, if you're a casual user who uses the smartphone for some web browsing, apps and games etc. and an MP3 player to listen to music, a digital camera to take photos and an HD camcorder to shoot videos, i.e. a separate device for each function, then this offer is a very good deal.

Still, not for me, but if the total cost is below £200, then maybe yes.

i chose pick up at store as there is not always someone at home.

i went into CPW store at lunch time to ask about MHL port on this phone and the sales guy said it was not capable of being connected to the telly and neither the S2 but he is wrong as i've seen several youtube videos which shows how to connect a MHL adapter to the phone and then to the telly and I know for a certain fact that other people have been using the MHL adapters for S2.

Does anyone know if the unlimited internet deal allows tethering ?

Tmobile give you your PAC straight away when you call, got mine recently and they also ask if you want it texted to too.

Just a quick question about MHL ports / adaptors if I may. They have a port on the side of them where you insert your AC mains charger to power them, but when it's in operation is the charger supposed to charge the phone at the same time?

I do keep wondering if I'm making the right move... I'm very apprehensive of changing from my iPhone!

I use a MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone at the moment, so hoping I won't lose too much interoperability.

The main thing I'll miss is iMessage though, as I have friends in Amsterdam who I can then text for free very easily.

just got an email from carphone warehouse asking me to pay £100 deposit? as the network company would like me to put a deposit down after checking my credit history. but ive never brought anything on credit before. this is my 1st mobile contract. apparently i would be refunded within 12 months if i keep up with payments.

This looks like a very good deal, though I've no experience with Talkmobile. I did a quick check and Which lists them bottom of all the mobile networks in their customer survey. Does anyone have any experience with them and are there any problems?

If you have never had credit before that is why they are asking for a deposit.

Just typical, a brilliant deal that is no good to me and Virgin will not match [first time this has happened].
Vodafone reception where I live is unuseable for Internet [I got a Vodafone dongle 2 years ago from CPW and had a hell of a fight to get my money back when it would not conect here].
Virgin are usually pretty good at matching, I am on 500mins + unlmtd Texts + 1 gb for £10-32 rolling month but could do with more data and a new phone. As with others, I am bored with my Orange San Francisco now.
Only T-Mobile/Orange has good data service at home where I use it the most.

Any ideas anyone? :disappointed:

really tempted by this but only got the xperia play back in january and yet to use it(still using the htc desire, been meaning to pop in my sim into the play and start using it).

currently on the o2 £15.32 simplicity 300mins, unlim txt, unlim data(I got it before they stoped doing the unlim data, have not upgraded it so still unlim), this offer gives 100mins less than I get at the moment and only 500txt but I've never even reached 200mins in the past couple of yrs(most used was ~180mins last month, usually its around the 100mins mark) and don't txt too much. if quidco pays out this contract would be ~£1/month cheaper than I pay at the moment.

the other problem is my billing date is the 4th of the month so this month has started and need to give 30days notice unless I'm mistaken, want to keep my number and from what's been said on here can only port number to talkmobile when you buy not after(o2 etc allow you to port after, unless I'm mistaken vodafone used to have the only port when buying thing not sure if its still the case with them).

according to the instructions on there it says you can give them the code after but if you read the posts on here they're saying you need to provide it when ordering.

Thanks everyone for advice on pac code. I have just been reading some reviews and apparently there are some issues with the black version of this phone chipping easily. Does anyone have any experience of this? Also is it possible to get the grey version instead? I have looked on carphone warehouse website and it only seems to be the black model (now awaiting stock).

Just ordered included my pac code from 3 as they wouldn't match the deal although have been with them for 5 years. Biggest fear is that the 3g isn't up to much on Talk Mobile.

bloody credit card company. i think it may be CPW's blooming sales software as my card is a mastercard and it normally ask me to put in a password for online purchases but this was never asked when i put in my order last night.

I contacted Orange as I am one month and one day from contract end. was told it would be 15 quid for the PAC. I will wait until tomorrow then. Got a call back and just being offerred. HTC one X 400mins unlimited text and unlimited internet for £20 per month, on a 24 month contract.

To keep your number with talk mobile you defintly have to give them your PAC code at time of ordering if you don't then you will not be able to move your number later.

My quidco tracked after a few hours.

I could sell the desire(cex says £75 for good condition, mine is no longer mint as ha a couple of small dents) but the number porting issue(this offer plus the xperia play stopping me from going for it.

most android handsets support wifi hotspot without any any on software. especially if its sim free one with no bloatware

been reading up about the signal issues with this phone , that some people have experinced , but notice over on XDA forums that custom roms dont seem to be suffering this problem and some ppl have fixed the issue by editing some of the lines of code in the boot up file. fingers crossed no issue .

picked one up from store yesterday gave them pac code at the store sim they provided has not been activated yet but service has stopped on my old sim ( i think they are moving my number right away just witing to be activated now hopefully with my old phone number ) nice phone brand new and not refurbed cant wait to log to google tho

looks an easy phone to root and add cwm but no s-off yet that will come im sure
but you can still use custom roms with s-on

it's vodaphone network so if you can't get signal in a vodaphone area where they say signal is great on their map or if the phone has a fault then you can get a refund even if you have put your sim in under consumer law acts.

the 'don't put your sim in' rule is designed for people who just don't like the look of the phone and change their mind. if there is something inherently faulty with the phone, you can get your money back else go to OFCOM and make a formal complaint.

this is just a htc sensation, dont fall for the "marketing bargain hype" and follow the people on this forum following each other like lemmings off a cliff. The screen is 2 year old technology, the ppi is rubbish for a phone in this age. 260 ppi, eerrrrr!!! U will be able to see the pixels, i think a nokia 3310 had better ppi, sony experia is 342 ppi, iphone 4s 326 ppi, htc one x is 312 and the samsung s3 306ppi (pixels per inch) etc. This phone is like a porsche boxster, the poor peoples porsche, this phone is a poor persons s3 or htc one x!!! Dual core, old old technology now!!! Quad is the only way now, so much better!!! A long skinny poor design that will be old fashioned in 6 months, never mind 2 years, there should be a minus in front of the heat figure. Work harder, work longer and get a proper phone!

what a polava. i am getting very concerned about CPW.

i called them this morning as instructed by their email and was told that they can not go through the card details for payment so will have to cancel my order and start again but that they are now out of stock for the phone. she said that if i order online again i would have to wait for stock to come in.

so i cancelled and went through the website again as i want my tcb. the card was only used for 1p payment and they cause all this trouble over 1p?

i've now used another card. if this transaction does not work again, i am calling it quits and count my chickens that i don't have to deal with CPW. :disappointed:

i also would never go with orange again. I remember the old days. Ring them up and say the phone is broken and they went through a few tests and if it was, one was sent to you via courier.

No they dont even guarantee there phones for 12 months. Its 6 months with them and 6 months with the manufacturer. Plus not to mention most of there cs agents cant even speak english let alone understand a london accent.

i avoid orange like the plague. my oh had so much trouble with them when tried to cancel a contract.
they are now bought by t-mobile so don't know if they got any better as t-mobile is very good with customer service.

My sister got one in store yesterday but they had none in stock said this offer has cleared them all up of stock so they will deliver one for her to pick up on Tuesday.

If it's anything like my HOX this will be a good phone despite smaller size and screens.

I love Sense 4.0 has some great features, and the camera is excellent. Took some lovely shots of Turkey on holiday couple weeks ago and they came out well.

This phone will be fast due to it's S4 processor and out benches the HOX in certain fields.

No experience of TM, but I'm on Vodafone and specifically to me in my home area I get the fastest 3G speeds compared to any other network hopefully TM will be just the same maybe!

In summary this is a cracking deal. Snap these up before they get replaced with the S3 processor but that will bring an HD screen to it so who know's how it'll perform.

I bought one for my daughter in store on Friday, non is stock so they ordered one and it has just arrived (on a Sunday!) by Yodel. Had a quick play and looking good, on charge now though!

Can I just correct you on something. It DOES have 1Gb of memory. You need to understand the difference between memory (ie, RAM) and storage of which it does have 16Gb (11Gb usable)

Hi, i know the difference. I was comparing it to the sensation, so this has 16gb 'storage' 11gb usable and i was saying that the sensation has 1gb usable inbuilt storage. I was comparing this to the sensation, i apologise if this wasn't made clear.

didn't think HTC had released the s3 version outside of Taiwan, only read the other day that they'd realeased the s3 version no news of it having been released in the uk.

and on the CPW website it states 'S4 proccessor' so if you get an S3 one you can complain for misleading/false advertisement or similar.

According the CPW specs its "1.5 GHz S4 Snapdragon™ " and "Super AMOLED Touchscreen"

If its not you have the right to take it back and ask for one with the specs they advertise......

I had wanted to see & have a play with handset before deciding
Went with the £20 400 minutes option,
Shop staff excellent, knowledgeable helpful but not pushy.
Its a lovely phone I have changed from the HTC Desire S which I loved
My current 3 Contract had ended and this was to good a deal to miss re handset and tariff .
Good strong signal from Talk Mobile at my home and out and about.
Talk Mobile Customer service call centre staff also seemed good when I made an enquiry today
so Fantastic handset tariff and good aftercare from a UK call centre Happy days!!!!

No expert on mobile contracts but would there be any chance of upgrading the £16/mth deal to the £20/mth deal at some later stage if the 200 mins/mth calls proved not enough? TIA!

I did receive good service from both CPW store staff yesterday in their store and also when i called Talk mobile customer service staff this morning to clarify a couple of things.
I have also purchased many pay as you go handsets from CPW for my kids and received good product/tariff advice from
non pushy sales assistants who allow me to make an informed decision
that has been my experience.


We are all quick to complain when the service is bad etc so credit where its Due.

To clarify my Uk call centre comment
I have just spent the last 6 months trying to resolve a network/connection issue with 3s customer service department I tallied up the time I have spent on the various calls in Excess of 6hrs to 5 different individuals before it was resolved via
a 3 customer services manager who took ownership and resolved my issues before i lost the will to live!!

I ordered on Saturday evening but have just had an email saying the phone is out of stock and on order. If they can't get hold of one within 7 days they say they well cancel the order. Might be with knowing for people thinking of ordering now.

On their website it says 'backordered' so hopefully you should get yours as it seems they are continuing to accept new orders.

There'll probably be some returns too, if people choose not to accept their order when collecting from a store maybe it becomes immediate new stock? Good luck anyway.

i think there is a problem with delivery on this deal and i expect there will be disappointed people.

the phone is out of stock from most shops and their websales and so i am uncertain if they are telling porkies when they say dispatched when really nothing has been available to send.

i went in to my local cpw this morning and they told me that i definitely have a phone. they told me that the delivery comes a bit later. they also said that as soon as they receive the parcel they will give you a call.

I have recently found out that on Orange (I'm on their Dolphin £7 tarrif) they charge you for accessing your voicemail EVEN IF YOU PHONE FROM A NON-ORANGE PHONE!!!.

Their customer support is ok though in my experience, and they refunded me the charges, but THEY'RE STILL DOING IT which means at the end of every month, I have to tot up all calls made from my Ovivo SIM to my Orange answerphone (a free call on Ovivo, ie, included in my 200 mins allowance/month, it's +447973100123 then one's PIN) and get Orange to put an "Adjustment" on my Orange account.

IOW, imv, Orange are most likely overcharging lots of people, all those who access their Orange VM from non-Orange phones.

hope this deal does not turn out to be a big boo boo and CPW knows something about these phones that we don't. They were released to UK stores on 22 April this year so you got to worry why are they already on special offer. Is CPW / HTC trying to shift them before people have time to find out about inherent problems?

i am hoping it's more that talkmobile is trying to gain new customers so are subsidising the phone more than other operators rather than the former.

I placed my order this morning at about 9am and had a dispatch email at midday. Got it sent to a store, so I can check it before accepting it and not have to wait in for Yodel to drop kick it up my driveway.

Sadly, the box being tatty is commonplace these days. I have to say I'd be pretty annoyed with a tatty box, because it shows it's been chucked around a bit.

Depends what is meant by tatty I suppose. IME CPW send these phones in, essentially, a plastic bag so there's every chance it will be a tad battered by the time it gets to you. But if the tattiness suggests a previously returned item I wouldn't be happy.

I'd not worry about charging it overnight either. Batteries have obviously come on a long way since the salesman last sold anything, as this hasn't been a concern for a number of years.

Ordered on Sunday evening, Quidco has tracked. Received email confirmation and dispatch emails from CPW. Rang them this morning to add my PAC code, no problem. Guy said they should be back in stock in the next few days, so should receive the phone by the end of the week;) I'm a big apple fan, but this deals is a no brainer for a phone with similar specs.

this is odd as i made my order on sunday afternoon and got an email this afternoon to say that they have accepted my order and will dispatch when they have new stock at the warehouse with the caveat that they will discuss alternatives if they don't get new stock.

Hi do you need antivirus software for these phones? I have never had a smartphone before so I am not sure?

Got order thru instore nd got da sim after 4 days of hassle and no quidco as they always fail my credit checks when I buy online.. yet I had to pay 100 quid as deposit for 6 months.. phone was not in stock at the store so they will be getting one hopefully 2mmrrw. lets see..

I used TCB and ported and the cashback tracked in a couple of hours.

Well mine arrived at about 2 o clock. I charged it till the light went green, inserted the SIM and switched it on at 6ish.

Still waiting for the SIM to register...

Also, I ordered online with my PAC but the paperwork I've received with the phone suggests that I've got a new number. Guess I'll find out when the SIM registers.

I can't get any signal on the phone? I have ported my number over but there is lack of infromation. The phone looks nice, dad is happy.

just got mine from in store,said no service when i turned it on at 3, its now 7 ish and happy days alls good,and what a cracking phone

Doesnt matter that much as ive cut my t mobile full size one down and whacked it in.

Dropbox is a bit of faff as you have to do 5 things before it lets you have the upgrade.

I posted here on Saturday sharing my experience of purchasing this deal/ handset in store at the
Dunfermline Branch of CPW)
As mentioned I got good service in store and phone was up and running within minutes the staff even helped me
sort out my settings move my contacts from old to new handset ( my teenagers usually do that for me)
Number transfer didint go as planned but that was down to 3 and Not CPW
3 didint sort out my PAC code in time
that has now been resolved so back to CPW today and a huge thanks to Laura the branch manager at
CPW Dunfermline who today helped me sort out the whole sorry mess and fingers crossed my service will transfer over in the next day or so letting me keep my old number.
I Noted posts on here mentioning a possible handset charge, my experience was there has been no mention verbally or on the sales paperwork which i read over and signed in store..
For me buying instore without cashback has proved well worth it as the service i have had over the last few days was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. So credit where its due
Outcome I now have a fab new phone with excellent signal coverage.
I hope all of you who ordered online that are still waiting for your handsets get them ok.

For those who have their phone.... can you answer a question please?

Can you tell me if the removable paet of the cover at the top of the phone (the bit you remove to put the SIM card in) has a slit near the power button? I'm not sure if this is a fault or it's meant to help it fit around the button. Either way it was immediately noticeable on my handset as part of the cover was protruding up and I had to push it back flush.

If you've no idea what I'm talking about then I take it yours doesn't have this slit thing.

It's now saying pre-order now for delivery by 20th June on the web site.

About billing....

I looked on the talkmobile website but couldn't find details of the tariff we're on. It looks like we'll be setup for online billing, opting for paper bills is £1.50 extra per month. So no idea yet if they charge for voicemail or the charges for using additional minutes / texts. Has anyone spotted this?

Thanks - just to confirm, I don't mean the big slot that you use to pry off the top section of the back cover. It's the thin bit of plastic to the side, around the power button - there's a slit in that from the power button to the edge of the cover. I can't get it to show up or I'd post a photo. When I took the phone out of the box part of this thin bit of plastic needed to be pushed back flush as it was jutting out. I dunno if the thin bit of plastic is cracked or if it's meant to be like that.

This phone has been a pain in the **** for me with it's very weak signal... I can't even put it in my pocket for fear of it dropping out. Sorting my return out tomorrow. This is on Vodafone, whose signal is generally decent where I am (West Sussex), and has been fine on all my phone previous to this. Just a heads up to anyone who has this problem when they get the phone, it's not just you, just do a search on the web.

sounds like the very thin strip infront of the power button, mines flush, sounds like yours maybe broken?

Mine arrived safely this afternoon and I've been tinkering with it all evening. It's fantastic up to now. I can't believe the difference between my Hero and this.

Briliant find, just in time for my brother to not renew his contract and go for this.

Was pretty close to ordering this, but talkmobiles online coverage checker shows data coverage in my area as pretty much non existent. Would you still order and check first hand? and perhaps send it back it really was as bad as predicted. How accurate is it normally?

Juts got back and the sim isn't active yet. Is their any security reason or plain stupidness? Every contract that I get is normally pre activated and you can make calls right away.

Can't believe my luck, TBH. Only ordered late yesterday morning and my phone has now arrived at my local Yodel depot! I did note that at the time of ordering the phone was showing in stock at my nearest store, could this have something to do with it? Maybe they are using the stock from shops to complete the orders?

Brilliant , got mine yesterday collected in store , I'm as happy as a pig in muck ! Great phone ,well pleased , excellent. Value , just need to root and then. Super user access, I'm not going to stick on a custom Rom just yet , as I'm pleased with HTC skin, but would like, to increase the dpi via the res app , but need root access , my old Samsung galaxy 1 was set to around 1100 by something , you get so much more info on screen : )

Resolution steps

To fix the device not responding or turning on, follow these steps:

Remove the back cover over the SIM card, and put it back on securely. It should be flat with the top of the device, or the Power key won't respond
Connect the charging cable to the device, and plug it into a wall outlet.
Note: Do not charge using a USB connection or computer if you are having this problem. Also, charge with the HTC charger included with the device.
Allow the device to charge for 30 minutes:
Within 5 minutes of charging, the LED should start flashing green.
Within 10 minutes of charging, the LED should stay a steady green.
Continue charging for 30 minutes.
After charging with the device turned off, press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds.
Release the Power button.
Press the Power button again for one full second, and release it.
Wait a few seconds for the device to turn on.
Note: If the device turns on, check battery indicator for the amount of charge the device has. If the battery is less than 100%, continue charging until it is full.
If the device remains unresponsive or cannot turn on, continue troubleshooting: Cannot turn on or charge device: Android.

I have never owned a smart phone, nor have I ever had a contract phone. Would this be a good place to start?

Can anyone confirm that I can use my old charger for the HTC Desire S, and the in-car charger for the same, with this phone.
I expect I can but wanted to check.
(I also used the Desire S charger for my kindle as well - great to have one charge to charge everything)

this is the sort of thing i mean when i say i hope CPW / HTC don't know something about this phone that we don't. people may call me paranoid but it is pretty obvious that they are getting rid of this model which was only released on 22 april this year, but i don't know why.

when a phone does intermitent silly things, it's difficult to claim under faulty as it may work fine when you bring it into the shop for repair.

also there may be technical inability with the phone that you find out when you have got familiar with it that you can't really call faulty, just the phone is crap.

if people have trouble please post as those of us who have not yet received the phone can still cancel the order.

Feels like I'm trolling the thread or something but I'm really not, I'm just a gutted new HTC One S owner. The signal strength is so poor, I'm too worried to carry it in my pocket as I know it'll drop out. Data connection is currently laughable. I got mine on a recent HUK Dialaphone offer and can still cancel the contract or ask for a different phone so it's not the end of the world, but it's a big disappointment.

Probably showing my ignorance about mobiles here but I've just rung my landline from my One S and then dialled 1471 and it comes up as the mobile number I've ported (which is encouraging!) but when I ring the One S from my landline no response but my old mobile is ringing?


PS Internet seems mighty fast at the moment and I'm in an area with supposedly dodgy online speeds according to talkmobile.

this sounds odd. why don't you look in the new phone to show my own number and see what number it comes up with? also you could phone another mobile, like your old one and see what number comes up. i am so jealous you got your phone even though you ordered a day after me.

could it be that you got a rogue one? there's always a faulty one in a big batch if the manufacturer quality control is not great.

what operator are you with? talkmobile? it may be the operator or the sim that is faulty. i had similar problem with t-mobile phone cutting out all the time and i have to take sim out and put back in. but it turned out to be the sim as i put a brand new t-mobile sim in and it worked fine.

is there anyone here you used the PAC online who is now able to use their phone?

All fine now after ringing their very helpful CS chap - he did say that online ports normally activate same day so the 'within 5 days' is definitely worse case scenario. Number ported now and phone working great. Impressed so far. Very much so.

I see what you mean! The actual number for talkmobile Cs is 0870 071 5888 (geo number 020 8616 6475). Could you ring them from a landline? In my (albeit limited) experience they are very helpful.

CPW should have another offer starting on Friday, so if anyone who's already ordered is not happy with their One S they should be able to compare deals and decide which one to go for. I.E. decide on Friday whether to return your One S or cancel if on back order :-)

I just received my One S from Vodafone, and it is grey, not black. It's also scratched.

I called up, and they've offered me a One X as a direct swap, so I've gone for that. I was really looking forward to the One S, too.

Still deciding whether to go for this, as I have seen an alternative offer.

Its through Phones4U, and its for a HTC One S, in either black or grey, and the tarriff on offer is the Orange Panther, £15.50 for 24 months.

It has 50 minutes, 3000 texts but only 250MB data, but also includes one orange 'swappable', one of which is Sky Sports mobile.

The inclusive minutes/texts on both deals would suit me, its the data i'm unsure of. How much in reality, is 250mb of mobile data usage? And is Orange potentially any better/worse than Talkmobile?

I would advise putting "bill angel" on first thing, just to get the calls and texts logged. Great app though.
Has anyone had text saying the new allowance starts on the 15 of each month? , so what happens from now till the 15th? Is that free or is it a small bill?

I've not ported a number so am up and running out of the box. CPW were as useless as ever. Branch opened 15 minutes late with no apology, staff didn't know how to process the collection and it look 20 minutes to do a basic ID check and find the phone. Hopefully it'll all be problem free and I won't have to use their branches again. I am concerned about these reported poor signal issues but my initial impressions are great and it's still a big upgrade from my problem free, but sadly ageing, Hero.

I can actually refute this in talkmobile's case as the guy I spoke to in CS earlier stated they DO NOT 'pro rata' the calls/texts so effectively we've got 200 mins and 500 texts to use before the 15th!!

We shouldn't get charged anything until the 1st (or so) of next month though - right?

I'm going to request a replacement from Dialaphone to see if I did just get a duff one, but I highly doubt it. No smoke without fire and all that, there are reports of poor signal strength on the One S all across the web. The impression I get is that if you're in an area where your carrier's signal is just good but not great (say constant 3/5 bars on other phones), then you could be in trouble with the One S. Mine is currently staring at me with 1/5 bars on Vodafone, often dips to 0/5 but still holds onto a connection, then randomly completely drops. My last phone, HTC Hero, was always solid on Vodafone.

Most early posts state that you can't port your number AFTER ordering online but someone a few pages again said you can.

Can anyone confirm?

We should always be cynical when it comes to these companies but I can only relay what the talkmobile CS rep told me. He did state the first month's bill will be slightly more than £16 due to the bit of line rental due from today unti the 15th but he was adamant that the 200 mins/500 texts allowance wasn't reduced pro rata so that's what we have got to use until the 15th. It would be great if someone else could confirm this as well as i don't want to ring again and get my self a reputation with them as being a fuss pot, lol.

But the first bill won't happen until July, right?

BTW, I rang CS again and spoke to another bod and he also confirmed they do not 'pro rata' the allowance for part months - no matter where you start in the billing period you get the full 200 mins/500 texts etc.even if you have only one day to the new billing period. Does anyone have any experience of TalkMobile/Vodafones service for calls/data in the Newcastle upon Tyne area?

Their coverage map is a bit patchy, whereas the Orange map looks better. But the orange deal only has 250mb inclusive data, and I'm worried that wont be enough for checking FB, twitter and Emails.

Can anyone give a steer on the data usage, and how that might pan out?

I ordered this phone to my house through Yodel on Friday, it was suppose to arrive Saturday, it still hasn't come and it's now Wednesday, should I be concerned?

This happened to me also. Just phone them up and they'll give you the account number. The reaction I got when I asked the question was like he'd been asked the same question thousands of times.....lol.

I ordered mine to pick up from store, as I've had problems with Yodel deliveries in the past.

The carphone warehouse site is terrible. Why oh why do they feel the need to disable copy and paste on their account sign up form and even worse - restrict password length to 15 characters!?!

Also, they sent me my account number in one of the numerous setup text messages (the day after I started using the phone and got it all setup...)

They make you wait for the one you ordered to arrive the warehouse. They won't give you any of the store's stock.

Went in store monday evening (Newcastle) and got one staight away. Number retained and up and running. Bigger than christmas. A work colleague on mine also got one. These are great phones and an even better deal.:sunglasses:

You lot are making me jealous now. I get my One X today, but I really wanted the One S!

Does anyone else get a really bad signal with this phone? Even in the middle of my local city centre I get about three bars, and indoors next to nothing (despite being in an area which apparently has good coverage indoors).

Even weirder, When I switch on the screen, the phone will generally have a signal (3-5 bars, so pretty good), but over the next few seconds will drop this down to nothing, until it shows no network coverage. This happens very often.

I took the phone into the Carphone Warehouse from which I collected it, and they exchanged it for a new handset saying it could be a hardware fault. The new one, however, is just as bad.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

Ordered online yesterday to collect from a store which I knew had the phone in stock.
Received an order confirmation within minutes which said to allow one day for my items to be ready for collection.
Being an impatient git I phoned the store today and and after taking my details they told me that my order was being processed and will be ready for pickup tomorrow - fingers X'd.

Signal on mine is definately worse than my old HTC Desire S on Orange.
Seems to go up and down all the time as well.

Love the phone though so not sure if I should stick with it and hope for a resolution.

Immediately, so if you haven't got it straight away you're probably be fine. I think it must be some conflict problem with the phone + 3G + location + maybe firmware version. I don't think it's to do with Vodafone, as my wife's o2 SIM has exactly the same problem in my One S. Both our SIMs get solid signal in her phone.

Received one of two of our orders from instore pickup. SIM and PAC still hasn't activated or crossed over yet. Only been 3 hours. :/

Trouble is I don't use the 'phone' to phone that much :smiley: didn't use 30 minutes a month on the last contract but hope to use it more now. Hopefully it will be there when I need it.
(Feel I should add I use my phone nearly everynight for playing games (all free apps) and going on the internet. The kids like to use the games rather than their DSi).

At £4 a week it would be rude not too. Three would not come anywhere near it with offers, tried to fob me off with a Samsung Galaxy Ace for £13 a month with less minutes.

Does anyone know the part number of a genuine HTC gel case for this phone? Cannot see it anywhere, does it exist! Thanks.

I had to pay a deposit for the phone, called in to pay it but it turns out that there's a security issue with my card! and there system :s

How easy is it to cancel a contract with talkmobile ? They offer me something else ? My talkmobile siganl is very poor everywhere , i put o2 card and signal is perfect ( 5 bars and H ) I would like kept that phone..

The GPS on the One S was loads better than my S2 in an indoor test last night. My S2 could see 6 satellites and lock four. The One S could see 13 and lock 10. It was also much faster.

For Music in the cloud, have a search for getting Google Music to work in the UK. If I remember correctly you can store something like 20,000 tracks in the cloud with Google Music but it's limited to the USA at the moment - unless you take a bit of effort :wink:

Love the phone, however the signal in my area and several others I have tried in, is painfully slow! May have to send back for this reason. My t-mobile was much better. Signal to make calls etc though is fine, I must add

That does depend on your definition of better. Speaking as someone who owns both an iPhone 4S and a HTC One S, the HTC display is markedly inferior to the 4S. The screen goes from white to yellow with very little vertical tilting of the screen and the saturated colours are miles from colour accurate reproduction. However, performance wise, it may fare comparably, but I don't think I'll be trading my 4S in anytime soon.

Of course, if you're happy with Android then the HTC One S is a very capable device and I'm sure my wife is going to be very happy with the upgrade from her 3GS.

Edit: I should also add that one of the reasons I took out this great deal was because I was looking to sell on either my iPhone or the HTC One, to make the deal even better for our budget. I still haven't completely decided which handset I will keep, but I'm still siding with my 4S. I'm going to give the One S a little longer before I decide though. :smiley:

It's certainly far far cheaper than the iphone 4s if you took out this deal! The rest is just personal opinion/bias on both sides etc. It's also certainly quicker than the 4S if the gsmarena tests can be believed...plus the use of Gorilla glass on the HTC can't be faulted.

I have tried a few different browsers with this new phone and I think I will stick for one I had never heard of before 'Maxthon'. It is free and I think, at the moment, it is great.

I have received a tracking email from Quidco but nothing from Carphone Warehouse as of yet - has anybody else that had this problem got an email yet? What to CW count as a 'working day'?

I took mine back this morning. A very capable handset, but when I am getting no signal in the middle of my local city centre I would rather stick with my old Android handset with a giffgaff sim.

The guys in the Carphone Warehouse took it back without a fuss, cancelled the contract and gave me a couple of printouts to certify the sim disconnection. The guys in the shop said that Vodafone has decent coverage overall but poor 3G signals. Not what I want really when I have a top of the range handset with an unlimited data plan.

Apparently, there's going to be a "Chip" changing in the new HTC One s, this means it's going to be much slower and pretty much not worth it now. Link

Hmmm, that doesn't sound good - I had my order confirmation email, but the next one due is when they have processed the order and readied it for despatch.

Oh well - I still have my current mobile, so haven't ported my number or anything, so it wont affect me too much, but will be disappointed if the deal doesn't happen.

EDIT: If I find a store that has stock, could I go in, sign up instore and just cancel the online order? Or might there be a conflict with an order pending, and a new instore order?

It ties in with the processor changing. Think about it, they said they would deliver it on the 20th however now this e-mail is coming after they changed it so it means that when they do get the stock they're going to have the different screen and proccessor. Thinking of just cancelling it and getting the One X.

Is there a way to check what processor is the One S I have?

But Talkmobile commit to a 14-day guarantee so any of the CPW stores should accept the returns, or you should be able to call up and get it sorted. The terms are a bit vague, but it did in my case cover me when I told them about the issues I have described in this topic regarding signal strength and connection dropping. Plus, a quick Google search shows the problem seems to be happening on the Vodafone network, which Talkmobile uses.

The Talkmobile twitter is quick to respond, so if you fire them off a message on that and get confirmation on being able to cancel the contract then that should cover you.

Like I said, a shame as the phone is great. But a great phone with nothing but a sketchy 2G signal is worse than an older handset with a good connection in my view.

just rang them regarding what processor will be in the backordered phones, and it should be the s4, if not its returned.
They are pretending that their system is antiquated and my order has to be manually processed, this has in turn changed my order number, this will probably affect my topcashback which has already tracked, they are also claiming that my order status will not be changed and orders will be delivered chronoligally from date order placed. What worried me is that they had to go through all the payment details and i now have a new order number!

this offer is still on their home page but now states call to order and delivery expected 2nd July.

This company are the biggest set of idiots I have ever known, i ordered Friday to collect in store, never received email confirmation so emailed and they confirmed I passed the credit check so i arranged to collect today, previous to this I rang cpw customer services just to double check I passed the credit check and they said I did, only because I due to have a baby and find it hard to walk, I have no idea why I ordered in store (baby brain?) anyway I got all the way to store to pick my order up, they rang me up to say my order was in and got there, oh you have failed the credit check.

I rang up,to complain and they offered a ten pound gift voucher as compensation. I told them to stuff the voucher up blah blah blah..... Really not happy at all.

Vodafone upgraded me from the One S for free as my One S wasn't right. I did originally want the One S!

Popped into a local CPW on my home tonight, to see if they had any stock instore - they offer ends midnight tonight, but none of the local stores have any stock left.

Had a little play around with one in the shop - very nice phone, just hope the expected stock turns up and the phones are the S4 chip models.

My quidco is still tracked, too.

My TCB also defaulted to £0! Must be CPW have no stock so refusing orders signified by TCB. Or its a promotion that does not qualify for TCB?

On the settings, phone identity, phone number option my phone says the number is unknown.
Anyone know how to get this to recognise the phone number?
I used the sim that came with the deal.

How can you check whether S3 chip or S4 chip is installed?

I received my One S this week, delivered to store. Unfortunately its faulty. The store offered to order a replacement, on backorder so supposedly next week. I'm not sure that'll be fulfilled as others have said their orders were cancelled due to insufficient stock. Bit fed up really. Any thoughts on what to expect or to ask for?

O.K, so how does that work when they say this in the email they sent me:

The delay is a pain, but unavoidable it seems. I still have my old mobile, so its not causing any problem for me, other than wanting to play with the new phone now.

Hopefully the new stock will arrive, and the despatches will start for next Wednesday (20th), and the phones will all be the S4 models.

Then, just gotta hope the signal/coverage is ok!!

But CPW returns policy seem to be ok (from comments on here), so any problems should get sorted ok.

Ordered one online for my mum. Quidco went through. Told me phone wouldn't be in stock until 20th, but actually arrived at store yesterday. Mum went in today to pick up and give PAC code, only to be told Talkmobile are the only operator to need PAC code at time of ordering, and will not accept it now. Deal no longer on, so she had to cancel order and leave empty handed. :disappointed:

their website says delivery 20th but when i spoke to the guy at CPW this moning he said they are expecting new stock 27th. every time i speak to someone they seem to have an attitude problem and telling me different things.

from some of the problems posted with regard to geographical location, makes me avoid this phone as i want to take my phone with me on holiday around the uk so it's no good to me if it works at home but not in other populated areas of the uk.

I had no problems at all.

Cashback tracked via Quidco within 2 hours, phone arrived in 2 days (and that was because I ordered Friday evening). Had to wait 12 hours for the number to register but no great problem considering the number was a port from my old Talkmobile contract (which is impossible anyway according to a previous post).

Therefore CPW even achieved the impossible. :laughing:

Ordered Monday Morning. Confirmed order with Message awaiting on delivery. Hopefully this will happen before the end of next week.

An update on my order that I placed on Monday - called CPW customer service number. They said they did not know when stock would be in. Stated that the order would normally be cancelled after 7 days of not being in stock (despite the email I received not saying this), and she would need to put a note on my account to stop this happening. Regarding TCB claim being declined they said it was not her department, and would have to raise support request though TCB and this would be passed onto the correct team. Overall not particularly encouraging...

Called VF for my PAC Code and was asked why, told them about this deal, said they couldnt match it and gave me the PAC code. Was called the next day by loyalty team and was offered HTC One S, 300 mins, unlimited text and 500mb for £16 on a 18 month deal. Know this is probably a one off for my 'loyalty', but should encourage others to see what their present suppliers can do.Phones turned up with the Beats Headphones as well. Rang up CPWH and the guy said they're getting new stock on the 24th and to ring up in 6 days if i didn't want my order to be cancelled.

I have read in this thread that others are having signal issues with this handset and unfortunately since receiving ours yesterday we are also experiencing big signal problems infact unless my hand is around the top of the phone i receive no signal inside my house and only one or two bars at best in the garden and only a G signal with a download speed of 22kb i have to drive 2 miles away to get a 3g or H signal and even then only 3 or 4 bars at best gsm signal that fluctuates greatly and won`t sit steady.I have a vodafone handset that sits steady at 2 or 3 bars inside my house and a three mifi that usually gets a 3g or H signal so deffo pointing towards a handset issue rather than a talkmobile issue.

So i have contacted CPW and to be fair they have been very helpful so far and have arranged an exchange handset at my local store to be collected tomorrow and tested at home however i am pretty sure this won`t resolve the issue as it seems like a worldwide htc one s weak signal problem as i googled it last night and page after page of end user signal problems came up for this handset especially in the U.S aswell as here in the U.K

CPW gave me a direct line number to my customer adviser and if my isssues are not resolved with the replacement handset then i have to call him on Monday to arrange a new model handset i.e a Samsung etc and sort another deal out from there or if i wish a complete cancellation of the deal

On another note my TCB is still tracking but not sure if like others if it will eventually drop to zero and my number hasn`t ported over from O2 yet after 24 hours of use my one s is still operating on the original number it came with even though i supplied pac details at point of order but as i`ve liitle or no gsm signal it would be useless anyway so glad it is still on O2 for now

Just rang CPW customer services.

Was told my order is in the system being processed, but the handset is out of stock, and on back order.

I asked her about orders being cancelled after 7 days, and she told me that when an order is placed on back order, they will still have allocated future stock to that order, and it will be despatched as soon as the stock arrives.

Once the item gets to the shop, if it isn't collected within 7 days, then the order is cancelled - not before delivery, apparently.

She said she couldn't give a timescale, but the phone stock was expected 'within the next 7 days'.

Looks like I'll just have to sit tight and wait it out.

Hope others are happy with theirs, but my parents' one has gone back as the signal was shocking. Ordered online but returned in store. They were great in store, no hassle at all.

According to the coverage map pretty much everywhere should be good for calls and yet this was often showing a nice X in the house as well as out and about. When it did see a connection it was mostly G or E. It very rarely showed 3G or H. That suggests to me the phone is at fault as much as the network.

Great deal in theory, but if you can't get a signal, what's the point? :disappointed:

There is a gigantic problem with signal strength on this phone. I'm hanging onto mine in the hope that its a software issue that can be fixed with an update, and not a hardware one.... very frustrating at the moment.

Mine is definitely not a software issues, as I put my T-Mobile sim in, and it works just fine. So disappointed. Hope a similar deal comes up on a better network

Just discovered that Talkmobile uses image compression on all web images, including those that you upload to the likes of Facebook. There's also no way of turning it off like Tmobile used to offer as a hidden setting.

I haven't tested this with the automatic uploads from the camera to Google, but if they suffer compression as well I will not be best pleased as that was one of the main reasons I wanted this phone and deal.

3G usage in my part of London is excellent. At home getting upto 7 down and 3 up! I get the same on my Vodafone sim as well.

sadly my phone is suffering also from the dreded poor signal issue , I shall call CPW next week and discuss the matter , I'm happy to try another handset , if it was not for the poor signal issues I would be over the moon with this deal , but sadly it appears to be a common fault .

It's clearly the unlimited internet that makes this talkmobile deal the killer deal it is. That deal includes 'just' 250mb/mth.

unlimited internet without a connection is worthless though.....still no sign of my phone.

Im having signal problems too , i got my phone from buymobiles.net on the tmobile network so i think its a phone fault rather than a network provider problem. my old nokia phone on tmobile has a 5 bar signal but my new htc one s has only 2 or 3 bars which change as soon as a press a button on the phone . I think its going to have to go back :disappointed:

no signal issues on orange network, in fact I get better reception than I have ever had before, for me the phones4u deal beats this one hands down, yes you don't get unlimited data, but you do get sky sports, free wifi from bt openzone, £20 htc watch voucher, 3 months cloud wifi access and better quidco

Got this a couple of days ago. Both the phone and the signal have been stellar. It beats my old Giffgaff 3g signal by a country mile which cut out all the time.

They might not have any one to talk too...

Lol, I know. That phones4u deal is in no way comparable to this deal let alone better! OK if you are having problems with signal strength/internet with this talkmobile deal I guess but 50 mins talk time a month?? Not forgetting 35p/min for any mins or part mins you go over that crazy limit.

I have got the weak signal issue as well, my sony experia mini has a solid 4 out of 4 bars connection where as the one s is lucky to sit on 2 out of 5 bars. The mini is running on GiffGaff

My internet keeps jumping between H 3G and E for no reason at all even when not using the internet and not moving about house where as the mini just sits on H constatnly

CPW tell me they are getting a new batch in on Monday, so I will try a new one to see if this helps although I don't think it will.

The phone itself is really good.

The unlimited internet is the killer for me as I watch catch up tv via the internet in work:D

Are phone signal bars standard across phones?

My faulty phone was returned today instore and even showed no signal there in a town centre location CPW then tried another phone and it to showed no signal so i have now cancelled my contract and also cancelled the other one i had on back order.

This might have been an excellent deal on paper but the reality of it is the phone has huge signal problems and the net is full of similar cases here and abroad my local CPW store admitted this phone has been getting returned to them since launch for the same problem so it is not just a rare case.

Very disappointed now and worse off for two credit checks against mine and my wifes credit files for each handset we ordered :-(

I'm surprised this story hasn't gained any traction on tech websites / blogs... you'd thought it's a pretty major thing, considering this is one of HTC's new flagship phones. A friend who works at a CPW said that returns on the One S are over 50%, and that the others are probably just putting up with it or dealing direct with HTC. There are no One Ss out there that are magically perfectly fine and different from all the other "broken" ones, if yours seems fine then consider yourself lucky to live in a spot with an abnormally strong reception (good luck when you're in a spot that hasn't). A search around the web shows that this is affecting all major carriers in the UK (I've tried an o2 sim, same problem).

My point in comparing the two phones, is that in the exact same locations the sony has the strongest possible signal, the htc only has 2 / 5 bars, I would take the 2 / 5 to be a poor comparison against a phone with 4 / 4 bars. Same with the internet signal solid H against a signal dropping for no reason.

I only went for the HTC to get a bigger screen.

Within the last 30 minutes I have lost my internet connection on my phone but I have 3 bars now!

EDIT Internet signal back, due to incorrect APN...Worked since Wednesday so no idea how APN setting could now be incorrect.

If the new phone signal isn't any better then unfortunetly the contract will be getting cancelled:(

Got a call from CPW this am - picked the phone up at lunchtime. The sim became active shortly after insertion and signal strength was the same as my SEXPlay (on t-mobile) Back home and set up email accounts etc, again signal strength as good as SEXPlay. Ran a 3G internet speed test and to my astonishment the One S score was over twice as fast as the SEXPlay and I never considered that to be a slouch.
Got my 25GB on Dropbox - Neat.
I signed up to HTC Watch and downloaded MIP Ghost Protocol for £0.49p which I'm now watching in glorious technicolor - I'm well happy :smiley:

I've been up to Southport and over to Chester and various places in Liverpool and generally poor connection to mobile web.

Having just done the above test, I'm currently running about 97dBm which is considered poor.

Updated mine earlier this week and it says the 401 version.
I simply went to settings, about, and then the software update option and it did it automatically.

And did the update fix your signal??

My signal is around 92 at the moment,which is supposed to be poor. I check later when out and about .

Just checked my wife's galaxy SII and that says 93 so maybe there isn't a problem with mine? Hers is on Tmobile.

Still randomly gets signal and then drops it. It gets 89db which according to info is quite poor. Mine is a Vodafone direct supplied phone.

I did the same but mine is now the 168 software.

Tried a couple of times after seeing what others were on. Wonder if it makes a difference that mine is straight from Vodafone?

Really want this phone but just can't deal with the lack of SD card slot. The non removable battery is also an issue for me.

Probably. You are likely seeing Vodafone's own customised firmware rather than the basic HTC one that unbranded devices from CPW will receive.

Does anyone know of a mobile signal strength app along the lines of Wifi Analyzer? An app that can show you a graph of ALL the mobile signals in your current location. I've found a few which show your own, but not one that can show all the operators. It would make carrier selection much easier :smiley:

Got an email this morning (sun) to say that my phone has been dispatched to my local CPW store. I ordered Tuesday and friends who ordered Wednesday have already got theirs. Not impressed. I did speak to one helpful CPW person on the phone on Friday who managed to action my PAC code even though I should have given it at time of order. O2 couldn't give me a PAC at the time because of a computer crash and I didn't want to wait incase I missed out on the offer.

I haven't a clue either...though that link I post earlier suggests 50dBm is good, 90dBm is poor but should work and 110dBm will be pretty bad with hardly any signal.
The fact the majority of us are getting circa 90dBm tells me its a widespread issue.

The image was probably cached. Try it with two different browsers (like Dolphin vs the default Internet app) and then compare the results saved off into your photo album. I've looked far and wide and Vodafone do indeed compress images (although not PNG's apparantly) and there is no way of turning it off, unless you are using Windows and using a broadband adaptor.

Well Carphone Warehouse are really screwing stuff up with cashback claims. I ordered two contracts, one for the wife and the other for me using two different browsers just to be sure the cashback deals tracked separately. One of the cashbacks arrived on Topcashback's earnings page within a couple of hours. The other is still missing presumed dead.

I just checked my account at Topcashback and low and behold, the cashback for the one account that got through has now been declined. I'm currently holding the phone in my hand now, so I'm pretty confident I haven't lied about this deal.

Resubmitted my declined claim using the Topcashback system, but seriously, it was the cashback deal that convinced the wife and I to make the switch for budget reasons, so I'll be damned if I'm letting this just go.

Anyone else had their cashback claims declined without reason?

I put two copies of the same image with different names on my own web server, so they couldn't have been cached. I'll continue to investigate.

Yesterday I was in Chichester, West Sussex, and incredibly got solid 5/5 bars with H data connection the whole time. Get back to Worthing, and down we go again... had to set to GSM (2G) only to hang on to a couple of bars. This is such a shame, because the phone itself is absolutely fantastic.

Flashing between H and 3G and 2 bars as opposed to the 5 on my previous...

Just spoken to CPW customer services regarding the availability of the One S for this deal. I was informed they will not be receiveing a delivery from HTC until 24/06. I find it hard to believe that all of the HTC One s handsets were sold in the last couple of weeks, or have they had a massive recall due to signal issues?

Still waiting patiently (or until it gets cancelled on Wednesday….)

Went to the local CPW store and they're OOS then they checked their Wednesbury warehouse and again their OOS. Their demand for this contract is so great. I've tried a 3 mobile sim card in the phone and the signal is not very good. Then tried an O2 sim and the signal is excellent. Thats my finding anyway.

What is the right to cancellation if I can't get a better signal on a new phone?

From looking on CPW warehouse they will give you another contract but nothing seems to come close to £16 with unlimited internet, especially considering the cost of this phone on payg.

UPDATE - Just received my 2nd email from CPW - saying my order is being processed and they'll email me again once the phone has been despatched.

About 8:30am, last Wednesday. Received my order confirmation about half an hour later, and this is first email I've had since.

Oh, and this delivery will be to collect from store (had problems with Yodel in past, so didn't want to risk it going astray).

Ok got one of the two I ordered... Phone is nice BUT and its big...

Signal wise well I have tried my giffgaff my lads tesco sim and yes the talkmobile and guess what the talkmobile one is crap,

I get on off signal with it with the other 2 its about the same as in my iPhone, the internet shows as E but check coverage for my area and it says excellent coverage indoors and out..

Tried the sim in my iPhone and a desire and still same gives E coverage on internet and poor signal even called the customer services, which the lady I spoke with April was very nice :smiley: and she had to call me on my land line lol..

I will be going to CPW tomorrow to see if they can do a different network for the same price but doubt it.. I just need to mess about now porting my chuffing numbers back lol

FURTHER UPDATE: Just received a text saying the phone has been despatched, with the tracking number.

They must be getting through the back orders now.

I didn't port my old number, so gonna give the phone a good go, and if the signal is bad, i'll go back and see what CPW can offer me.

Hmm, it says on the paper work I got about the coverage guarantee and also 14 days because of the distance selling i.e. not seeing the phone before purchase..

I will be going back to CPW tomorrow and will be canceling both phones as the coverage of vodaphone is rubbish...

If there web site says its excellent coverage and when tried is not and has hardly no coverage then they are miss selling a service..

Basespaceuk.... CPW may have their own t&c's but they don't override your statutory rights. You are right about the delivery lottery though. I ordered after you and my phone is on its way to my local CPW store. My friends ordered after me and they had their phones within a day of ordering.

what does the vodaphone coverage checker say about your area if you have a poor signal?

I'd like to know whether its a handset problem (I will try a replacement) or a network problem (I will cancel.) Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I haven't read everything on the net about the problems with these handsets, but from comments on here, it seems to be either or.

However, there are people who seem be getting the required signal strength, so I think its just a 'suck it and see' thing with this phone.

If you can get it, try it. If the signal isn't up to strength, then it seems that CPW will replace the handset, swap the tarrif/provider or take it back and cancel the contract.

So, you *shouldn't* be stuck with a phone/service you can't use for 24 months, if you go back to them within the first 14 days.

So advice would be test it thoroughly in different areas to gauge signal strength for yourself.

mine is a network problem like I said earlier the phone works on 3G no problems with tesco and giffgaff, just tried the talk mobile again thinking it might have been busy last night but still the same shows as E instead of 3G and down to one bar... thats on my iPhone as the phone is packed up for return.

I returned it.

Talkmobile somehow lost my PAC code in the order process and told me I had to go to CPW and cancel and re-order to get the PAC through. They're the *ONLY* network with this odd limitation. Naturally, the deal wasn't on any more so I told them to keep it.

To be honest, I'm fed up with Vodafone's coverage anyway, but it was hard to argue with the price of this deal on a phone I wanted. Looks like I'll be going with one of the T-Mobile deals out there.

Just cancelled my order for the HTC S one deal with CPW.

I placed my order 8 days ago, had no corresponence from CPW whatsoever concerning a delivery date.. here is my experience of CPW.

Went into Lancaster store June 10th to order phone. They couldn't put order through asked me to come back in on the Monday.

Went back into store on Monday morning - they still couldn't put the order in asked if I could come back later.

Went back into town later to find that they still couldn't put the order through as there was no stock left.. No offer pf back order. They said they would ring me on Tuesday to let me know when I could place an order.

I went home, realising that the folk in CPW Lancaster weren't to hot at their job I ran CPW to order via phone. I did so and was informed that my order wouyld arrive the next day between 7am and 9.30am.

Got up on Tuesday 12th waited for phone - it didn't arrive.. Rang CPW - "sorry sir your details aren't on the system".. go figure..

Placed a further order for phone.. told that it is on back order and that I would hear very soon when the phone is back in stock.

7 days later.. still no phone.. I ring up to be informed that they still don't know when it will be back in stock.. mmm.. "I cancelled my existing contract and got my PAC ready to supply you once my phone arrives", i tell them.. "Oh you can't transfer your number with Talk mobile unless the PAC is supplied at the point of sale", I'm informed..

This is not what I was told last Tuesday on my third and seemingly successful order..

So.. after reading the dreadful reports of signal quality and my very worst experience of any company ever - I tell CPW to stick it.. Now I have to go back to my existing provider and hope they will make my account live again with no penalty..

I reckon, in CPW's defence, the demand of this deal was huge and would have strained their customer services.

The phone/network signal is ok for me. It's not brilliant but I can live with it. It's a good deal but not without problems. Just imagine the backlash if this was an iPhone deal with these problems...

I've spoken with CPW this morning , they have reserved me a htc one s at the store for me , they are going to exchange the handset , hopefully this handset will not have the same issue..............

my experince with CPW was pretty good , i was a bit fired up before i begun , expecting that i would need to convince them of the issue , but it was not a problem , "yes sir we have one in stock for you to exchange " , "okay is it a brand new , never used , non customer returned handset ?" , "yes i can confirm that " , "okay i will be in at 12 today"

job done.......so regardless of the issue with HTC , there is no issue with CPW..... which is worth pointing out in my opinion...

I've had bad experience with Yodel in the past, so know how unreliable their deliveries can be.

Had one of these delivered last week by Yodel when I was out. I got a text from Yodel to say it had been delivered and that I could ring the driver direct to arrange re-delivery (he actually lived just down the road so I picked it up from his house). A bit later I got some texts from CPW telling me the phone was on the van for delivery...

Out of interest has anyone else had this issue with the phone? First use, charged it up all fine, but then as soon as the phone goes into sleep mode it's impossible to wake it up and have to do a hard reset. Battery life then shows as full when it eventually comes back on. If the phone is charging when going to sleep then it wakes up fine. I've been in to CPW to get an exchange so now I'm waiting for some to come in to store so I can swap it (was told that if I wanted the online side of the business to send me a phone out I would have to cancel and re-order and would then lose the £16 tariff).

Received mine yesterday. No security seals and plastic on back and front of phone looks like its been off and reapplied. Is this a dodgy returned phone ? Anyone else have no security seals ?
Anyway given this and the other potential problems my instincts tell me to send it back and wait for a s2 or s3 deal.

Hi , swapped mine over today , exactly same signal issue , I took it back 2 hours later and had the deal canceled , this would of been a excellent deal , but sadly the two Hct one s's I had both suffered from the signal issue , big shame , looks like I will be going for a Samsung galaxy s3 shortly

Just picked mine up. Haven't plugged it in or anything, so can;t comment on the signal/coverage issues yet.

However, the phone packaging has its security seals intact, and the model is the Z520e, 1.5GHz model, so good so far.

Will post back with results of the signal/coverage up here (Newcastle upon Tyne).

EDIT: The sim card pack has a message on the front of it, as follows:

"By inserting the enclosed sim card into your handset and using it, you have signified your acceptance of the terms and conditions enclosed, and will NOT be able to return your handset or cancel your airtime contract under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000."

I presume this just means if I change my mind, rather than if there is any issue/problem with the network coverage and/or the phone itself?

Well, sitting at home the signal bar is fluctuating between 2 and 3 bars, but has hit full 5 bars a couple of times.

My O2 W995 is sitting here with 3-4 bar signal, but even that is fluctuating down to 1 bar at times.

The HTC is fluctuating between a 3G and an H symbol for mobile internet, but seems to connect fine. The W995 is showing a constant H symbol.

Well one of mine turned up the other is still missing in action, spoke with cs at talk mobile re signal issues and the guy I spoke to was instantly blaming the phone, tried explaining its a coverage issue as I have it in my iPhone and its still crap etc...

So will be going to cfw on Saturday and canceling just hope the other one has arrived as I don;t want to be going to and fro...

UPDATE- went to store to exchange for a new handset (they had ordered in from another store.) Had a walk around town and maximum signal was 2/5 bars, which frequently dropped off. So I returned to store to cancel the whole contract (you can cancel contract due to faulty handset within 30 days of activation- or maybe 28) annoyed because I really liked the phone. There were no more One S handset to be found, so he offered me an HTC Sensation - which I politely declined! When I mentioned the One X, he said it would be £200 extra to pay. No thanks.

I said I would take the handset and phone customer services, however he offered to speak to store support while I went to put extra time on the car. When I returned he had been passed to the "Resolve" team who authorised a £200 credit so I didn't have to pay.
So I am happy now, although bought tons of One S accessories that I will have to return.

The SIGNAL IS GOOD on the One X (same microsim) so in conclusion there must be a fault with at least some of the One S handets.

Hope this helps and some of you manage to have the same experience.

Haven't put my talkmobile sim in as yet however I've had no problems with my 3 sim. I live in SE London and went out for a meal in the west end and had good signal. Even streamed the football over Hspda. Fingers crossed for when I put the talkmobile sim in

I'm gonna give it a try out up to and including this weekend, and if the signal/mobile internet access proves to be a problem, it'll go back early next week.

It seems to be a cracking phone, so wanna make sure that there really is a problem with this handset before turning it in.

If it does need to go back, wonder if CPW would give me a Galaxy S2 on the same £16 tariff, as that was the other handset I was considering, but it was only on the £20.50 tariff (at the time).

EDIT: At work now down at North Shields, and the signal bar is still fluctuating between 2-3 bars, but the internet symbol is now 'G' instead of 3G and H it had been at home. Tried to load Facebook, and it failed to load some of the images.

So, first impressions, looking like an even weaker signal at work than at home.

Just rang carphone warehouse and I've been told they are getting stock on around 24th June so expected delivery on the 25th or 26th

Just noticed that my TCB that was originally showing as Tracked at £35.35 has now gone to Payable at £0.00. There's no reason for this to have happened - anyone else had this? I've lodged a claim with TCB anyway, though I'm not overly hopeful of getting anything.

Unfortunately, I dont have another phone that'll take the micro-sim to try it out, and can't try my current O2 sim in this phone.

But lying the two phones side-by-side on my desk, I get 5 bars and H on the O2 phone, and 2 bars and G on the HTC.

I have checked the coverage checker on Talkmobiles website, and for the work postcode it states I should get 'Good Indoor' for calls and texts, and 'variable' for mobile internet.

Gonna take some pics of the phone screen to show CPW when I go back in, but surely this will qualify under their 'Coverage Guarantee'?

In the meatime, might try and get a micro-sim adapter to try the sim in another phone, as I'd like to keep the tariff if possible (with the U/L data) and try and sort an alternative phone, if needed.

My signal is pretty appauling, so do I await Voda to buck up their ideas (According to CarphoneWarehouse, they're having problems - nationwide?? Really!?), return it and walk away, exchange it for a new phone when they get them back in stock - or given the fact I contacted HTC directly on their website last night, send it away to them for repair?

They tried talking me through a few things, which didn't appear to change it at all. So their description for return is "Signal issues where HDSPA and 3G are intermittently changing causing signal loss"

I really love the phone now - and my HTC Hero seems quite the slow thing now!

Well another update, but not quite the one i'd expected to make.

After a day of little or no signal at work, I was resigned to having to swap this phone in. However, on the drive home, I was constantly checking the signal (safely when stopped). Anyway, as I got out of North Shields, all the way through and near Newcastle city centre, the signal read 5 full bars, constantly and an H symbol for the mobile internet.

Got nearer home and the signal dropped, but right now, it seems a steady 3-4 bars, but the phone is connected to the home BB via WiFi.

So, i'm beginning to think that the signal issue is more to do with TalkMobile's coverage near work - which is odd, becasue two of the guys at work have Vodafone mobiles with no issues.

Anyway, before going back to CPW, I'm gonna get my existing O2 sim chopped down to a mini-sim so I can try it in the HTC, then at least I can hopefully rule out the handset being at fault. I'll get a sim adapter too, so I can try the talkmobile mini-sim in the W995, again to try and establish if that is at fault.

But on the face of it right now, I'm more convinced the network coverage is the cause, not the phone.... for me.

If it does turn out to be the talkmobile service, I'll go back to CPW and see if they can offer me another £16 contract, with as much mins/texts/data as I can, but doubt i'll get unlimited data. However, I can connect faultlessly via WiFi with my home BB, so even if I dont get U/L data, might only need enough to use where there aren't any WiFi hotspots.

Anyone have any idea how long it should take to activate the sim? I stuck mine in almost 5 hours ago and I've still got no service.

If you don't mind me asking, have you placed your phone in your pocket with some coins? I've had this phone for well over a week now, it's often been in my pocket but I've been very careful that it's actually the only thing in there (like you should do with all mobiles) and there isn't a mark on it anywhere.

Hopefully final update from me, may be of use to people still receiving their phones...

After cancelling my order but it being sent out anyway, I took it into a CPW store (per option given on phone, as it would take Yodel 4 days to return to sender otherwise). Despite having called customer services and their second tier complaints team saying the store would sort out about my PAC/moving back to current network, the first person I spoke to in store said "we can't do that". She said this 3 times, repeated after I insisted their call centre team said the shop would. She then fetched someone else, who called their internal line, and eventually got it sorted (apparently even stores get put on hold).

The second guy, who seemed to know what he was talking about said that it was a good thing I had not used the SIM, as they don't accept returns if you do, and pointed out the text printed on the SIM envelope. When I prompted him further about how some people online have succeeded in doing so, he said it was not their policy to do so, but managers at their discretion could do so.

Clearly if your phone works, and you get a good signal, this is a good deal and I'm happy for those people where it works out. But if you are concerned as I was by the number of comments saying the handset itself has general poor signal quality then I recommend you do what I did and return without opening the SIM pack. Testing the phone itself *may* be ok (but they box does have seals so they can tell if you've opened it - also means if you get an unsealed box that means it's probably a return) but even their he repeated what website said about not being able to download data onto it.

So I guess I'll be keeping a close eye out for another hot deal on here with a different company :smiley:

Precisely. Imo it's crazy to take it back and cancel without trying it first. There's no way you will get a deal anywhere near as good as this anywhere else at the moment. Just don't get it...

retrogeezer/bellboys: the problem with the coverage guarantee is that they only guarantee to allow you to change network - but not keep the same tariff, it would be whatever 'best match' they could come up with on another network from existing price plans (at least that's what I was quite clearly told, but as I've said before one of the biggest problems I've had with CPW is the lack of consistency, it seems to mostly depend on who you speak to/manager's discretion.)

I'm quite sure this will work out for some people, but as I don't desperately need a new phone or contract (I was just trying to take advantage of the offer as I wanted, but not needed, a new phone, and in hope of being able to make better use of the contract allowances in future - won't be the case at moment) I much preferred to take the lower risk option. And so far what CPW website, phone service and store said all confirms this as being correct. I'd rather follow that than a few people's experiences on here that depend on manager's discretion.

Ultimately people have to take the information they have and decide for themselves.

Anyone who is thinking about taking it back and worried about refusal: I covered my back by sending a message via Twitter to the talkmaobile account asking if I could reurn my mobile under the 14 day guarantee due to signal issues. That way, the confirmation they sent me back I could argue as written confirmation of the company's commitment to process my return.

I haven't read through all the threads, but this is what I've found.

Spoke to Talkmobile Customer Services who talked me through a few setting changes to get me on 3G as password and username were not set (should be wap in both) in access point name. They also told me to delete 'payg' from the APN title. I only now have problems when I've been on wi-fi connection and either switched that off or moved out of the area. The phone needs switching off and back on again to reconnect to 3G. Since I've discovered this, I've had no problems.

Well today, i'm more than convinced that my signal issue is to do with Talkmobile than the handset.

My HTC one S arrived this morning but it was an obvious return as the white sticker seals on the box weren't stuck down properly and also the little pin you need to open the case was missing. Rang CPWH and the kind chap said I can go instore and get it replace but they don't have any stock near me!

I'll go instore during lunch and kick up a fuss and see what happens.

Ah I was watching a HTC one x unboxing so must have mistaken that, but the phone is a returns as the white "seal" stickers were not stuck down properly and the phone had like 15% charge.

CPH said there was stock in a store 25 miles away and I could collect that if I wanted but I'm trying to get them to send it to a store which is close to where I work.

Ah cheers, was gonna ask the same. The seal on mine were all intact, but there was no 'pin' to open the back cover.

At least I now know there was nothing missing then.

As previously stated my seals were not intact and phone was fully charged when turned on (instructions say it isnt charged).. Advised on the phone that they open so many to test!!!!! Returned to store yesterday as instructed over the phone and they were not interested in whether sim was intact or not so i could have tested it but given the phone was probably a return there was probably a problem with it.
Store and on the phone denied any signal problems.
Fortunately CPW managed not to activate my number port that i had done when ordering the phone so indirectly they managed to get something correct!!
There may be some stock now in stockport if anyone is interested!!

Picked mine up this morning, phone had charge in it straight out of the box but appeared to be brand new.

I have no bars on the signal display at home but I can still make calls on it most places around the house with no problems unless I am sat in my lounge where it does go off sometimes.

Internet access seems to waver between H and 3G around the house too, again unless I am in the lounge!

just stuck the sim in and get 5 bars in the centre of birmingham but only a g connection. If I switch it to WCDMA only it has H/3G and 3/4 bars.

Mine has some charge as well, so I charged it fully which took between 2-3 hours.

The guy in the shop told me to let it go completely flat and then charge it for at least 12 hours, something to do with the memory in Li-ion batteries?

I've also spoken with Talkmobile Customer Services earlier who talked me through the setting changes mentioned in a previous thread. Even after this, its still only showing 'E' and i'm only getting around 150kb download speed. I then put my mate's Three sim into the phone, and did a speed test, where we got 12,000 kbs. To me, this proves the phone is fine and that the Talkmobile network is pants. Shame, because the phone is brilliant, but can't keep a phone for 24 months with unlimited data when its struggling to connect. Back to CPW tomorrow to cancel within the 14 day period.

Just changed the settings to WCDMA only and its completely lost all signal.

Been into CPW store this evening about the TalkMobile issues, and to see what my options were under the 'coverage guarantee'.

The girl checked the computer, and basically I can cancel the contract and return the phone, or change to any other tariff, but they will be at the current price for this handset, with no discounts available.

The cheapest current tariff available instore for this handset to be free is £31/month. If I pay £49.99 for the handset, I can change to a £26/month tariff. Neirher of these are very appealing.

Looking at Phones4U, they still have this phone in either Black or Grey on the orange panther tariff for £15.50/month with 50 minutes, 3000 texts and 250mb data, + one orange swappable, plus a couple of other extras. They also have the same tariff at £20.50/month with 100mins, 3000 texts, 500mb data and £100 cashback (by redemption, and same extras as above.

Both of these would also qualify for £50 quidco too.

Have checked the Orange coverage checker, and coverage appears to be better for my home and work postcodes, and and Orange also use T-Mobiles network/masts as a back up.

Therefore, I'm seriously considering returning this to CPW and cancelling the contract, and taking out one of those new deals above with Phones4U.

While I wont get u/l data, the WiFi on this phone works well, so would use that at home and at hotspots, with the inclusive data for areas without wifi.

Its a shame, but the signal/coverage on Talkmobile just seems to flakey/risky, especially for 24 months, and surely Orange can't be any worse?

So are you having trouble making calls?? As I said earlier, even though mine shows no bars or one at at home I can still make a call. If you can make a call it doesn't matter what the signal bars say surely?

Oh, I can understand that - just strange that the internet seems fast on mine even if it only says H or G, cloud cover this evening seems to have affected it a bit though.

o.k, I just updated the software and now have no internet signal, do I need to switch on data roaming? Wondering if it has been switched off with the software update as the phone rebooted in airplane mode.

Yep, mobile network is on and it is in wcdma/gsm auto. I turned off airplane mode already and still nothing at all.

Downloaded the Speedtest app last night, and ran it at home, and again this morning at work, here are the results:

Home (flicking between 3G and H):

Ping = 260ms ; Download = 2099kbps ; Upload = 359kbps

Work (Solid G):

Ping = 1910ms ; Download = 15kbps ; Upload = 23kbps

Trying it this morning, the speedtest timed out once, and only ran on the 2nd attempt.

Gonna try it around and about over the weekend, and make a decision on Monday depending how I am able to connect during that time.

What an amazing bit of kit these phones are, I hope I have a decent enough signal when using it over the next few days. The lack of bars doesn't bother me as long as I can make the call. Bit gutted I only have one day until my 'free' allowance runs out. :disappointed:

However, I got this delivered to store, rather than home, as I doubted they 'lose' one that was headed for a store.

I got a loyalty deal on this phone, for my wife, the day before this deal went active.

I have just gotten off a long phone call with Talk Mobile Customer Service and the advisor told
me that all UK Networks have major issues with this phone and it's connectivity. They are all pressing
hard for a fix/replacements from HTC - though there is no clear response as of yet.

He may have been exagerating, but it was clear to me from what he said that Talk Mobile are having
huge problems with this handset, largely on the back of this promotion. We've gotten a months line rental
back and a promise to look at a replacement handset in a month if the issue has not been resolved by that
stage. (though not like-for-like :man: )

Though the contract was not quite the same £10pm 600Mb Data + £200 for the phone works out at £18.30 pm
But it does mean if things aren't resolved we could look at another the handset - the fixed One X perhaps :disappointed:

In case anyone wonders we did not have time to port the number away and back again to get this deal.

The phone we have here has issues both with WiFi and the Phone Signal. I had a Galaxy S2(also on TM) sat
right next to it showing two bars whilst the One S had none - a reboot and suddenly the One S had a
signal and texts were being sent/received. The WiFi only works reliably if you go into advanced settings and make sure
that "Best WiFi Performance" is ticked - our house has thick old stone walls.

I was sat right next the router and it was ~5 minutes before the signal jumped up to full on the display FWIW ;-?

Now that I think back there may have been some mention of this not affecting all handsets!

Thanks for this report, this is at least more than I could get out of Vodafone who just keep saying "we've escalated it to our devices team". It's good to get some confirmation that this is a handset problem as suspected, and not a Talkmobile / Vodafone network problem (gathered that anyway as my o2 SIM shows exactly the same problem in the One S). I'm going to hang onto the phone in the hope that HTC can fix it with an OTA or a free repair. Maybe that's foolish, but I love the phone itself. Maybe I'll try and get a similar promise from Dialaphone that they'll replace the handset in a month if no improvement.

That's the thing, the advisor basically said that this was an HTC problem not a TM one and
it involved quite a lot of toing-froing to get a commitment via his manager that we would look
at the situation in a months time. To be fair though I felt he was very helpful and honest about
what Talk Mobiles position is and what my options are.

I did mention the Sale of Goods Act and "fit for purpose" a couple of times. Not being able
make or receive calls/texts reliably (where you can with another phone under identical conditions)
would quite clearly seem to be a fail on that front.

However much they would like to pass the buck on, the retailer who sold you the phone is
liable to offer you a refund/cancellation as far as I'm aware.

Okay, now I'm confused. With all these comments saying it a fault on the HTC one s itself. Here's my feedback from this deal.
Full signal at home but data connection is stuck on G. Now I stick this talk mobile sim into my HTC Desire S, and the result the same. 3 mobile sim in my desire s got full signal and data connection is H/3G.
So, so far my tests indicates its a problem a problem with the network provider - Talk mobile.

my phone is fine with my tmobile sim in it. In fact its brilliant signal wise and i cane mine.

Well just to add my two-penneth to this latest debate.

For me, this defintely seems like a network issue, not the handset.

The signal fluctuates for me from very good-good at home and in Newcastle town centre, to poor/non-existent at work.

WiFi works brilliant for me, and at home get a decent 3g/H connection - again at work, I can only get a G or E connection, which makes using the mobile internet impossible.

My old O2 W995 handset gets a solid 5 bar signal and H connection when placed next to the HTC at work.

I submitted a message about this on the Vodafone eforum, as its their network that TalkMobile uses.

The reply I go for the poor signal at work was that there were two transmitters nearby supplying that area, and neither had any issues, therefore, it seemed the office was just in a poor signal area.

The Talkmobile and Vodafone coverage maps are identical, and say I shoudl get 'good indoor' call signal, and 'variable' internet.

I am close to changing to Orange, as their coverage map is more comprehensive than TM/VF, and they also use T-Mobiels network as a back up.

Having looked at my usage, the 50mins call time/month would do me (believe it or not) and there are 3000 texts, but the data is what was worrying me - 250mb didn't seem much. However, I can connect to Wifi fine at home and out and about, so the inclusive data would almost just be a back up for none wifi areas.

I would also be happier knowing I could use it where I wanted, and not just in certain areas.

Then, just gotta hope the HTC One S handset I got from Phones4U would be ok, too!

Had it a few days now with no signal problems (Nottingham). Have been running 3 laptops internet from it's own wifi hotspot off 'H' internet today (at about 6 MB/s) while moving house and it has performed perfectly.


Only problem is Talkmobile wanted a £150 deposit to unblock adult content which is outrageous!

This is a hardware fault that rears it's ugly head depending on network coverage. The phone bombs whenever coverage is moderately weak, when other phones would have still held a good signal, this one can't. When signal is strong, the phone is great and chugs along fine. So obviously people are going to experience varying issues on different carriers... just because you stick in an Orange SIM and suddenly you've got 5/5 in your home when your Talkmobile had 1/5, that doesn't mean it's a network issue. When you get in an area where Orange signal is moderate / weak, the phone will cr*p out, when maybe Talkmobile would have had 5/5. Swings and roundabouts.

The various networks are not going to be able to magically fix this problem, hence why they are all now saying they have raised it with HTC. For us who are going to stick with the phone, we need to hope that this is a "simple" software issue that HTC can fix with an OTA update. Failing that, a hardware issue that HTC can repair and return (bet their engineers will enjoy that...). Worse case scenario, HTC deny any problems, and we're screwed.

in my actual house its a deadspot for all networks and all my previous phones had 1 or 2 bars. my htc one now is sitting on 2 bars.

Had to return mine last week due to signal problem, (poor to non-existent), despite supposedly good coverage. I was hoping that it was a Talkmobile/ voda problem, cos the handset is brilliant, but a bit of googling reveals many others with same probs on other networks. I therefore conclude that the One S is inherently faulty, and I'm looking for a good deal on maybe an s2, with T mobile, because their association with Orange seem to give the best coverage.
Incidentally, talkmobile's 14 day return policy for poor signal is really only 13 days, with the day of purchase being day one. So if you buy on a Friday the 14 days finish on a Thursday. I was lucky to get a refund.
edit: by the way, staff in store took my word for signal problem without question. They must know something.

I'm still not a happy bunny. It took 8 days for me to receive my phone, even though colleagues who ordered a day after me got theirs after 24 hours. Now I've still got a dead handset waiting for the port to go through. I put the sim in on Wednesday and according to CPW, the port will not go through until Monday (tomorrow). Thats two weeks from purchase to having a phone ready to use. I just hope I don't have any signal issues when it does connect. I have been trying it out on my home wifi network and the phone looks fantastic. Can't see me buying from CPW again though :disappointed:

Surely you new phone should be activated out of the box. just bought an s3 from the T-Mobile deal from this site and i could use it right away. Porting my number took less then 24 hours after i phoned my pac code through.
They also lifted and restrictions at the same time.

Well, afterreading some of the comments above, starting to wonder if there is a signal issue with my handset too.

WiFi and mobile internet been ok at home today, but call signal has been 1-2 bars, and occassionally disappearing. Its been raining all day, with loads of cloud cover which may be affecting the signal.

While I may still be able to make calls, I'm concerned at comments that this handset doesn't handle low signals well, and that in future I may lose it altogether, particularly if I'm out/about where the signal isn't great, and sods law I'll need the phone. But this is also making wary of going for another HTC One S, as much as I love the handset.

So now, I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy Note, which I have seen on an alternative deal (50mins, 250txts, 750mb data - £15.50/month).

Gutted about this deal, as it seemed great with the handset and unlimited data, but if the signal/network is as flakey as seems, then it just isn't worth the risk of being tied in for 24 months.

So. may be going back to CPW tomorrow to see if I can get this contract cancelled, and return the handset. :disappointed:

I bought one of these cheap silicone covers with 2 screen protectors on Saturday morning and they arrived today!

Seems good quality and a good fit, screen protectors are those 3 layer ones where you take one bit off to fit, then the last bit off once fitted properly.

i called cs today and although i was still connected i couldnt hear anything and the music(i was on hold)kept coming and going,the quality of the call was poor although i had full bar coverage,i mentioned this to cs and she said take it back to cpw shop and get them to check it.

music always does come and go due to the noise cancellation technology. Does it on my b + o house phone as well

The CPW hold music does fade out and back in, regardless of the actual phone you're using.

Just wanted to give a bit of credit to part of CPW here. I had a faulty handset when mine was delivered and have been waiting for some stock to arrive in my local branch to get an exchange. Big cheers then, for the CPW website stock checker, which showed me on Sunday that my next nearest branch (Lichfield) had some stock (where they got them from I don't know, as no-one else seems to have any, and they didn't have any a couple of days before). I called them, reserved it and went down later to exchange. Great service, helpful and now I have a nice shiny new One S (and yes, it was a brand new phone, not a return).

Signal is broadly similar to my old T-Mobile (both phone and data), so all good.
