But how good are the products though.

Has anyone ever bought any of the above and did they turn out successful?

I've bought seeds from them before and they've grown ok. Also with a lot of the bulbs I've bought from them this time you can actually see green bits starting to sprout inside the bag, so the should definitely come up. Same with the fruit plants you can see little green leaves starting to appear - get them while they are fresh, so there are more chances of them growing nicely.

The hostas I bought last year were fab and made superb snail fodder! Will try again this year and will splurge on some slug bait this time :smiley:

I bought the 35 Gladioli Mix, and 6 oriental lillies, planted them 2 weekends ago they are sprouting and coming up out of soil looking new freshly green so far so good :smiley:

Trick is to buy them as soon as they get stock, none of the staff seem to have a clue about watering, (talking about the plants in boxes like the fruit bushes and roses). I buy from them every year and the germination rate is easily on par with the likes of Homebase/B&Q et al. For seeds I buy from wilko, very cheap and I have had 90% germination on most of the veg I buy.

I think you need some experience with the 'dried' pouches. I bought one dicentra and I'm pretty sure i'll get 4 to 5 plants from it. ok they won't be biggies this year but will bulk up quick enough. Go to like of B&Q and they are £5 each.

Also got an echinacea last year and just divided that and reckon on getting about 5 to 8 plants out of that.

The gardening stuff in poundland has been there since January. Some of the roses we bought were very dry in their packets, some died after planting. I wouldn't recommend as the quality isn't always that good.

The gardening stuff I have seen instore is great! I saw some beautiful floral patterned hand tools yesterday - great as gifts for your green-fingered friends. Loads of other great products including plant protection to keep the animals off your gardens too!

My sister went in last week and got a load of stuff after reading this thread, thanks! The rose bushes are lovely, an old man showed her which ones to choose, ones with little green shoots on them, and helped her choose lots of bulbs too.

Bought the Simply Red and Purple Paradise Shake & Rake for £1 per box as a sow it and see purchase. Not sure what the plant mix is but I have that "nothing ventured, nothing gained" view on this. The idea is to add some colour and some plants for bees and butterflies to the roadside bank and verge at the front of our house. It has to be better than a muddy bank that has no wild flowers and only straggly tall grass at best. :-)

Boxes state 15m squared per box.

I'll post again when and if something happens as to what the plant mix is. This may not be an indicator of future mix because it may change. No other info I can find anywhere else :-)

I've bought the fruits. I tested a gooseberry a couple of years ago. Should have been green but got big bonus when it fruited last year and they were deep red Gooseberries. I was happy and my motherinlaw wants some cuttings.
They had just put out a fresh lot today in my local. I was looking at some that looked like they needed watering badly. Then a lovely member of staff showed me a point of sale area he had just been putting out with today's fresh. I got a Redcurrent and a Blackcurrent today as well as some Hollyhocks, 3 roots in pack but I had to search through all the packs as some didn't look to have any roots in at all. The 2 packs I picked looked fresh and the pack still felt a little damp.
couple of weeks ago I picked up a couple of Blackcurrant, couple of Blueberry and a Hibiscus. All are doing well and leafing up lovely.
I think it's down to getting them when they are fresh in store. Same with Wilki's really as I've had good and bad with them only they cost more :wink:
I did pick up some seed packs for veg as my son has been nagging me. So looks like I'm gonna be digging up the poultry/rabbit manure muck heap and giving the ground a good turnover and mixing it all in so that ground will be ready to plant stuff out.
To be honest, for the price, they are a bargain.
