Eric Ligman (Microsoft Director of Sales Excellence) does an annual giveaway of eBooks on many Microsoft products / services and products. Yes this is a shameless bit of promotion of Microsoft but the reality is that anyone in IT (or just the working world in general) will need to use Microsoft products so here is some free information about how they work and what they can be used for so you can look smarter than your colleagues.
Yes, this is designed to get you to buy more of their services. Yes, the books are written as if Microsoft is the best thing since sliced bread (which is pretty damn awesome when you think about it). Yes, Windows will crash from time to time and lose your work / scare your cat. Yes, Linux / MacOS / open source projects can be better than Microsoft depending on the context and no I don't want to hear about your Arch system that you built from scratch that is SOO much better than anything else. No, I don't work for Microsoft.
I don't think his list http://ligman.me/2sZVmcG
is the full list of titles, also they're in epub format, which isn't particularly useful, I prefer pdfs (which some are) also one of the published 'books' is actually just a link to a web page! Some are docx!
Easier to download the ones you actually want individually :smile:
Did you just assume my C drive? What if it's X. You don't know what my drive identifies as. You people.

And if you want them all. Save your time by doing this
Open Powershell and enter the code:
############################
$dest = "C:\Downloads\ebooks\"
# Download the source list of books
$downLoadList = "http://ligman.me/2sZVmcG"
$bookList = Invoke-WebRequest $downLoadList
# Convert the list to an array
[string[]]$books = ""
$books = $bookList.Content.Split("`n")
# Remove the first line - it's not a book
$books = $books[1..($books.Length -1)]
$books # Here's the list
(or search for "Download All button" on the page.)

As with anything Microsoft, it's a good idea to read with your eyes open!
Generally, their way is to try and lock you in, so that you suddenly find your open systems are dependent upon Active Directory or .NET; there appears to be some good stuff there, but just beware of getting sucked in to the Microsoft way!

Thanks! Some very useful books in there. There is a PowerShell script at the bottom of the page that you can use to download all available books without having to download each one manually.

After a Google of the guy's name and eBook giveaway it led me to a blog post with all of the links.

If you get red errors everywhere then manaully create C:\Downloads\ebooks and try again. Or even specify your own download destination in the .txt file.Total size 3.43GB
Open Powershell and enter the code:
############################
$dest = "C:\Downloads\ebooks\"
# Download the source list of books
$downLoadList = "http://ligman.me/2sZVmcG"
$bookList = Invoke-WebRequest $downLoadList
# Convert the list to an array
[string[]]$books = ""
$books = $bookList.Content.Split("`n")
# Remove the first line - it's not a book
$books = $books[1..($books.Length -1)]
$books # Here's the list
# Download the books
foreach ($book in $books) {
$hdr = Invoke-WebRequest $book -Method Head
$title = $hdr.BaseResponse.ResponseUri.Segments[-1]
$title = [uri]::UnescapeDataString($title)
$saveTo = $dest + $title
Invoke-WebRequest $book -OutFile $saveTo
}
Done.
And OP too. :-)
