Installed before I remembered I don't have WIFI on my desktop - will try it on the laptop later. Got a new router recently so I need to find the best channel again. No problem if I had my android phone working - but this is nice. Heat.

If you want a quick and easy way to check what channel your neighbours wifi is broadcasting at type the following into a command prompt:
netsh wlan show networks bssid
That will show you all the WiFi networks in range and the channel for each. Nothing against this app, I've not tried it, but if that's all the info you need it only takes a second.

Don't get too excited from the screenshot mapping rooms of a house, that's part of a separate app that you'll need to pay for or free trial.

Your WiFi can be affected if neighbours routers broadcast the WiFi signal on a similar channel. By using a channel nobody else is your wifi signal doesn't have others to conflict with.

Simply to find the best wifi channel that is reliable and will potentially give the highest speed locally. A lot of things can affect wifi from wireless doorbells to some microwaves - maybe not yours but your neighbours. The tool allows you to see which channels have less traffic and on your channel look at how strong or weak it is when you move to different rooms or something happens - like pressing your neighbours doorbell.
Most people will not need this type of application as they are happy with speeds and do not want to tinker and optimise their networks as they are afraid of breaking them - often a good thing not to, most new router software will try to do this for you. If you are brave or annoyed that your signal keeps dropping and you do not believe your router is faulty, then its worth optimising.

I used Netstumbler and InSSIDer in the past, this seem built on similar snippet code, but you have to pay and the free version is a limited days trial.
Having used it and found it temperamental - needed to switch wifi on and off a couple of times for it to work, I think the main screen is overall rubbish - you get snap shots rather than real time updates seen on other free analysers. Possibly the best that there is in dumb-down win10 app shop but there are much better programs available, much better android apps too.
