When I go to Canada it's to Calgary, Alberta to visit family,
The top places I would recommend for scenery would be Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff and (if I have spelt this right) Tukaka Falls it's absolutely amazing, the views are stunning. If you plan to hike make sure you have bear spray!
I was in Calgary in July, the summer is very warm hitting around 25-30 degrees but last year it was raining almost everyday for 3 weeks could not believe it!

I'm probably the only person to think this, but it would be good if people actually chose to donate to the parks. As mentioned by someone earlier they are very well run etc. which costs a lot of money.

Booked a 15 night family road trip in August 2017. Fly to Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler, Sun Peaks, Jasper, Banff then fly home from Calagry. Going to be awesome

Beautiful Country.
For a relatively inexpensive holiday we stayed in a Motel in Calgary and drove the very easy 90 minutes to Banff, took in Lake Louise etc and explored all around.. Just Fabulous..

Did the same trip August 16, you'll love it. If you can help it avoid doing Capilano Suspension Bridge and other 'outdoorsy' things while in Vancouver - you'll enjoy them at the time but by the time you get to Whistler/Jasper/etc you'll look back and laugh at them and wish you'd saved the money.

This is one of the many Beautiful photos I took whilst visiting Lake Minnewanka (yes it really is called that) in Banff National Park. For a really inexpensive holiday you can stay in a motel in Calgary and see the sights of the city then take a few days out driving to places like Banff.. Just Stunning and only 90 minutes drive..

fantastic deal. Went and did a road trip of Alberta, BC and a tiny bit of Montana a couple of years back... this year we're doing 5 nights in NY then 9 in Ontario area - not sure if Algonquin Park is one of these but grabbed one  Cheers

Why would you be the only person to think this? I'm sure there'd be donation "buckets" in their visitor centres which I'd always give to as I always do be it national parks, museums or the like

Wow, beautiful. We have some caring commitments at the moment but if we can get someone to help us out we're hoping to get over to Canada in the summer.

More because a lot of people on here would step on their nan to get a freebie. I completely agree with your approach, hopefully everyone else shares the same opinion.
Hopefully you do get out there, it is well worth it, amazing place to visit!

Thanks for the advice going for 2 and a half weeks in September literally can't wait. Flying to Toronto to go to Niagara falls then flying to Calgary to start our weeks driving through Jasper and Banff heading to Kamloops for a stopover and finally Whistler. Few nights in Vancouver and then flying to San Fransisco for 4 nights and back home. If anyone has any spots or recommendations please I would really appreciate it, booked flights via Sta Travel (flights were allot cheaper than we expected) and most of accommodation through airbnb which saved us alot.
Got my pass so thanks OP for highlighting I looks like one of thee most beautiful places on earth

When we went, it was in August 2014 - flew into Calgary, then did this:
2nd week we went to Montana -> Missoula... then all over the place - ended up doing over 2700 miles in 2 weeks.
Loved every minute of it - especially the 3+ mile long trains you see lol

Absolutely love Canada, we dream of emigrating there but it's having the guts to follow through, spent a month there Aug-Sept 15 after a 5 day Toronto break earlier in the year, returning this year to get married and spend another month touring up to Alaska and returning to Vancouver island. Well spotted deal but as others have said the pass is a bargain anyway and I'd quite happily pay entry

Disappointed Canada gone down same route of USA of charging for entry visas From October 2016 now costs $7 per person for entry visa
trizinger28
6 Jan 17#35
Not quite as bad as USA though as their visa costs more, and that $7 would leave your hand as a tip for the luggage handler in a USA Airport lol

Also just to note
"You only need to order one pass for your group or family if you are all travelling together. A 2017 Discovery Pass is valid for everyone arriving in the same vehicle at a national park, or arriving together at a marine conservation area or historic site."
How long do you have to wait for a 'confirmation email'? So far waiting over a day. Do they email the pass or post it?

National Parks in Canada and the UK are very different. For example I don't think there is much requirement in Yorkshire for park rangers to ensure the safety of visitors from the wildlife where as in Canada rangers need to ensure that bears, elk etc don't come into conflict with humans.

Snap, we are going for 18 nights in July. Our itinerary is very similar except we are going to Clearwater instead of Sun Peaks and Canmore instead of Banff. Fingers crossed for lovely weather to enjoy that fantastic scenery but not looking forward to the crowds enjoying their free passes!.

Cant wait, just in process of trying to book a car/SUV for a week ideally I wanted a nice muscle car or a large SUV but there seems to be almost nowhere to book them for. Pickup at Calgary and Drop off at Vancouver, So far found some Chrysler 3000 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee but wanted either a pickup or a Mustang/Charger!
