Lidl giving out Christmas chocolate and biscuits for free, not out of date yet until March so they must be wanting to shift the remaining stock rather than bin them, first come first serve it seems.

Why don't they give them to the local food bank?

I said the same (although hypocritically I took some!)

Didn't know Lidl did this, thought I'd just got lucky  I was given the mini stollen for free last week

They had it in our local store in Wales a week ago too. Mini stollen bites still for sale though.

That's definitely NOT nationwide.
I have a proof (and could upload it if you tell me how) - today's photos from Lidl Merton, mini stollen bites for £1.49 (down from £1.99!) and stollen for 99p.
Good deal for some, but NOT free at all.
