hi thanks for the reply. yes bios updated to latest and all drivers updated still appears sluggish compared to win 7, but mainly only when browsing etc. have "turned" off the updates but still same.

Microsoft seem to have moved on from making money by selling an Operating system to Joe Public. The aim is now to make money by "encouraging" you to use a Microsoft account to sign in, for mail and most importantly purchase Apps. By signing in they can track your dirty little habits etc and sell advertising to third parties. Beware of Scanguard a potentially dodgy bit of software which pops up in some of the promoted advertising within Windows 10.

Can you install windows technical preview beta then upgrade for free?
I remember when I bought the windows 8 upgrade I could install windows technical preview and use the windows 8 upgrade no problem

Agree, assuming your upgrading from an earlier version of Windows, this is far easier then the OP's method, & still completely free and legit from MS.
Why mess around with "You simply have to claim that you require 'assistance'" when Microsoft already have a free download of Windows 10 available to anyone?

Just like it did with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, so this is old news. It's also breaking the licence agreement if you continue to use it in that way.

In general I'd agree but not in this case as Microsoft knew people would use this 'loophole' from the outset as it was widely published in the IT media before it even went live. They could easily implement some kind of check but it looks like they're not really bothered, more people on W10 is the bigger aim.

Heat for those who like their PC to be dumbed down to tablet level and become virtually unusable to do anything much more than book a holiday online. I made the mistake of taking Microsoft up on their offer. Upgrading back to Windows 7 was the best thing I've done in years. Hoping one day Microsoft make a Windows OS again - seeing as they stopped at 7.

i have a solid dell i7. never had any probs until i upgraded to win 10. was great for the first few months. now it is just quirky. for example, there was a time when i couldn't even boot. then after 10 retries (and being close to tears) it suddenly booted and nver did it again. lots of other little problems. running slower. etc.
i tell everyone if your machine is ok, don't do it. unless you have lots of tech knowledge (which i don't). i am just wary every time i switch the machine on now.

For those who have Windows Vista or want to play with Windows 10 (virtual machine?), you can install it without an activation key, and there'll only be some cosmetic limitations...otherwise it's the full version: howtogeek.com/244…10/

I did a fresh install of Windows 10 to a empty hard drive. I found the internet sluggish, tried edge and chrome, both same. One of the online games would freeze on its opening screen. changed the data transfer setting didn't make any difference. plugged the original Windows 7 drive back in and all back to normal? anyone else have similar issue with 10?

W 10, spy in the cab. Wonder why your internet gone slow? Microsoft getting your computer to send data to them. W 7 the best, 8 +++ crap. "Spybot anti beacon" has a way to override the data transfer. If you got W 7, stick with it!

I have given all the positive people a like (apart from one or two that for some reason the button won't let me, weird, apologies). To the folk giving my deal negative vibes, hey, that's cool, that's like your opinion man, but I am not giving you a like. Nah, actually I was interested to know if it was a well known thing, as I hadnt heard about it at all, and thought it was a very lucky hit on Google.

yep it's usually the Opium Pulses ones that go got on HUKD opiumpulses.com/sto…nal but don't buy W10, buy W7/8 & upgrade for free
luvsadealdealdeal
20 Dec 16#5
not for free
you have various options to get W10, always assuming your computer can handle the requirements
assume you don't want to pay £85?
you can buy a possibly dodgy key - perfectly legally - for W7 or W8 - about £12 - then upgrade to W10 - this generates a shiny new W10 key that won't get bricked as it is Microsoft themselves who have given you the new key
you may have a friend who has upgraded to W10 but made a note of their old W7 or W8 product key - it may still be on the case - that old product key is still valid and could be used to allow you yo upgrade Vista--->W7/W8--->W10
enrol into the Microsoft Insider Program (not sure they are taking Vistas any more but that's how I got a legit copy of W10 for my Vista, long story but it worked fine)

sold an old but perfectly good laptop with W10 on it for £50, beggars gave me negative feedback because it wouldn't play their new memory hungry games
