I'm sure there are plenty of disabled people not able to do it. Surely, we shouldn't revoke their licences?

I wasn't referring to people who aren't physically capable to check these things .
I'm not saying any of this to be harsh , I'm saying it's a flaw in the system ... people need to learn the basics for there own safety & the safety of other road users.

can't help but feel if you can't perform your own vehicle checks you shouldn't be on the road

A little bit harsh that. Yes, folk should know how to check the very basics like tyre pressures and condition/ water level / screen wash and oil level but even our neighbour, who is a doctor, needed telling that her brakes needed checking as I could hear them grating when she pulled up on the driveway....just not mechanically minded.
