My local Sainsbury recently introduced a type of trolley that won't accept these. The pound/token goes inside a compartment so can't be on a chain. Though I suppose you could just unclip this one.

Same at my local, trolley have new slot just unclip from the chain and insert.
Very handy as I no longer have to look for a pound coin or get change to use a trolley.

Never needed one at Sainsbury's, however you do need one at Lidl, but ask at the tills and they will give you a handful free.

What's the point of these? I thought the whole point of the pound coin lock was that it would cost you a quid if you nick the trolley.
If they give these away for free you can just nick the trolley right?

One pound trolley system was never intended to stop real thieves (after all a trolley is worth way more than a pound!), just to encourage people to stop leaving them all over the place, and to return them.
