Windows 10 Education Edition & Office Professional Plus 2016 could be available for free if you have a..edu email address & your place of study is registered as eligible.
Worst part is I'm a massive technology geek, software engineer etc. and still prefer being able to have Windows do everything for me rather than trying to force a poor OS to do things not designed for it to do (like play Minecraft  )

Seems the Anniversary Update brings changes:
Microsoft Store - yes (obviously)
Cortana - removed (but maybe they'll be a way to add back, haven't checked)
Changes to Start Menu - very minor, basically you don't get suggestions for third party apps (so that's a positive!)

Microsoft store - yes
Cortina - yes
Start Menu - normal Win10 one
How do I know? I've installed it many times
There are Group Policy settings to set the first two (should you want) if that's what you mean. As for Start Menu it's the usual one, if it was the W7 one it would make it far easier for work.

What people have failed to understand is that the educational version is NOT the same as the home/pro versions.
For a start there's no Microsoft store, cortana, and the start menu is cut back to windows 7 days.
I wouldn't install it. I've got 10 windows pro licences on my various machines and looked in to this for my server nodes. Wasn't an option with the limitations in the educational version.
Don't go in to this thinking you're getting a the home/pro edition.

And here's your reply.
My dearest apologies this was an error on my behalf. I am a man of my word and thus will accept when I'm wrong, no need to take the michael my young friend.
There was speculation and a few blogs I read (when Win 10 was rolling out) that stated this is the case. Obviously, (like most of their policies) they either took a 180 or this was still early days before it even was advertised.

Be aware, the Education edition of Windows 10 will expire once you leave University - unlike the Pro and Home editions if you can grab them through Dreamspark (or whatever it's through).

Do you mean the terms of the license or that it will actually stop? Cant see how the latter is true since the key system is exactly the same, ie. there's no periodic checks or means of invalidating.
It's not free, you have to hand over your soul in exchange for it
Linux never expires AND nobody will call you a noob for using it

Yeah, there's an 'admin charge' for many (don't know if all?).
Many schools and companies offer this as it comes as part of their site licence, so NOT restricted to .edu emails. In fact, isn't .edu American, UK universities are ac.uk.

Would appreciate if anyone knows the link for full list of unis
Offers free copies of a ton of Microsoft (and other?) software for students, really is amazing. Think you may have to get referred by the uni to get access though, at least I was.

I'm not a student, I was looking for my son, who is unfortunately not eligible :-( How do they know when you're through though?
