I was looking for a good tutorial on how to make android apps and found this website - Just been doing the basic course and it seems really good. Lots of youtube videos linked with examples to try as you progress! Looks like they have quite a few interesting programming courses for various levels too!

Sounds like the Android beginner course with Kunal and Katherine i checked it out when the other guy mentioned it^ the XML side is really well explained she did a cracking job. You should fly through that if your familiar with HTML, XML is just a markup language its very easy to learn. Speaking of app development they need to add a character counter to the HUKD app it cut off part of my last post without warning me which ain't cool.

the start of the course that I'm doing on it is pretty basic stuff so far, they say it's for people who have never coded before its just XML image or text boxes. I have a basic html knowledge and it seems kinda similar ish but I think it might be slightly hard to go your head around if you'd never seen any programming before. pretty fun at the moment it's just started to introduce the Android studio

You should learn an object oriented programming language before you mess with Android. Android apps are written in Java and xml if you know Java developing for Android should be quite easy. There's loads of ways to do most things in programming did you know the Scanner class can also be used to read a file on the system? just use which ever method you find the easiest every programmer has there own style of code and way of doing things. The guys on youtube will be assuming you have some programming knowledge it doesnt makes any sense to start developing an Android app without learning the language your programming the app in unless you want to be a copy/paste programmer your gunna find it ninja difficult.
Anyways happy coding

I use CodeCademy to learn programming. Highly recommend that!

this looks like it only goes so far before you have to start paying.
better to look for somewhere like codeacademy i would have thought, that's 100% free.

I've struggled with online courses and Youtube video's trying to program Android. Everything just seems overwhelming. The guys on Youtube show you once but don't explain what's happening, even just passing a variable from a TextBox into Java is difficult - there are 5 or so ways to implement the OnClickListener method.
The free Udacity course was different, it broke everything down into really simple steps. It explained what is happening at every stage and made the whole process a lot simpler. I now understand the relationship between xml and Java and I can work with Onclicks and pass in variables.
I'm still at the beginning stages of my "career" but I've created a fixture list for my local football club (not on the Play Store) but my main reason for programming is a couple of ideas that will require Sqlite.
I still don't understand things fully, fixing errors are particularly hard and some of the terms are still alien to me but I'm getting there and this free course is the main reason I've progressed.
Yes I guess that's the idea for all these courses but this course in particular is so well presented the free version will get you past the basics. I've taken many online courses, a lot I haven't completed as I got lost halfway through, this one is different. Wish I'd have started on this instead of over a years frustration with other courses.
