I came across this piece of software today after watching a YouTube video. You can see the temperature of your CPU and GPU and also have an overlay of them in your games. That is what I have use it mainly for as it's very simple to use. It has other features too such as overclocking but don't mess with that unless you know what you're doing!
Here is the details:
FEATURES
FPS TRACKING
Track frames per second (FPS) for all of your favorite games
GPU OVERCLOCK
Effortlessly overclock your GPU and push your FPS to the max.
ADV DASH
Gain access to a wealth of information including detailed graphs and in-depth stats
INSTANT ALERTS
Instant warning when components aren't functioning properly
IN-GAME OVERLAY
Display key temperatures and performance metrics in-game
CORE TEMPS
Monitor CPU and GPU temperature at all times
CLOUD DATA
Review your PC's historical data to identify abnormal activity
GAME HISTORY
See your FPS stats for your most recent game sessions
Most importantly, it's free. You just need to create an account. Hope it's useful to some.
Ps. Seems to use less than 100mb of memory, so fairly lightweight.

I was dubious as I had never heard of this Company. It turns out to be great tool for those who like to tinker with PC's and Gaming PCs. It has a really good review from PC Gamer Mag in January 2016 Link hee. Thanks Op.

Meet CAM, an all-encompassing tool that's pitched as the only utility you'll ever need. The brainchild of NZXT—the McLaren wannabe of PC cases and accessories—CAM takes the best of all the most popular system utilities and combines them into one cohesive package.

Looks ok, will try a few games later today and see what it can do. Thnx for sharing.
Can't say I've had any issues thus far. I only use it to monitor temps and for the overlay in games though.

The combination of HWiNFO32/64 + MSI Afterburner/RTSS is a much more flexible option, highly recommended.
This is still a great tool.

Is there a simpler utility/app/widget/program/piece of software to just tell me temp. For a laptop or Mac book. I'm not interested in frame rates as I only play turn based games. I don't like creating online accounts as it's usually a pain the assignment that's more trouble than its worth. This site included.

Yep, lets you overlay pretty much any custom sensor data in-game e.g. core clocks, temps, voltages, mem use, cpu/gpu load, FPS and so on, and it's all free.
