Hearing the recorded voice at the automated tills endlessly asking 'Have you swiped your Sparks card?' is the main reason I now avoid M&S entirely. How the staff tolerate it is beyond me.

I think you need a physical Sparks card from a branch before you register it online.

Am i right in thinking that this loyalty card you need to check the offers online before you go to the store?
I know someone with 14k sparks and have no idea what the card is for they have just been swiping it and even staff didnt explain it to them when they asked they were just told "Oh you need to keep getting you're sparks!".
Also where do you find the offers if what i said is right, is it in your sparks account?
I dont use the store so pointless me signing up for one just to try and figure it out.
Thanks in advance if anyone replies.

I signed up to the card at my local store and the employee took my personal details and give me a card there and then and told me there are various offers online which I can check via the website, one of them included 20% off everything.
He then went on to say that hot drinks are available in the cafe and all I would need to do is order and the cafe employee will swipe the card. So i went along and got a latte and it was free. I didn't have to make any purchase to get the free drink, worth noting that the employee who signed me up told me this offer would be on for the next 18 days only and could possibly change depending on demand.
Hope this helps.

I don't have the free hot drink offer on my account but would it work if I ordered and swiped my card?

It reminds me to use it actually, and most of the check out staff don't ask for it (unlike boots, tescos etc where store cards are well established). In time, when ppl (inc their own staff) become more familiar with it.

Fab if it works, but unsure such offer is universal to everyone, as spark card offers seem to be quite individualised.
Once I had an offer from them, 'free croissant with hot drink'. You get a free croissant when you pay for a hot drink, the staff explained, it has always been like that.
So I don't expect them to be so generous all of a sudden. :stuck_out_tongue:

It knows whether or not you have swiped your sparks card, so why ask if you have? Why not just have it come up on the screen at the end just like Tesco or sainsburys? It isn't just the 'have you swiped your sparks card?' That irritates me though. Why does it have to shout to all whether your transaction has been approved or declined?

Many thanks for posting. Just been in store, got the card, registered it. At first there were no offers for me, but after filling in the 'About me' questions or something like that, I got the offer.

I picked up a card, and registered it on-line.
On my offers, the free hot drink was listed, along with a few others to chose from (inc afternoon tea for £5 I think it was).
I chose the free hot drink offer - and went to my local M&S cafe that same say - hey presto free drinks ever since.
And I must admit - it is excellent coffee, although it may well be the full fat milk version.
I suppose a few treats once in a while is ok.
