Here is a golden opportunity to say thank you to those service people that perform their duty diligently for our country.

Some of those armed forces helped my friends & family in Yorkshire when their homes were flooded in 4 feet of water. No one else reached them or helped them as much as the armed forces. My thanks to the armed forces. Here I can tangibly shake their hands & show my gratitude & thanks.

Those people who voted cold should be ashamed!! They live in this country not knowing how much selfless duty these men & women perform for our country.

I know - let's pass a law whereby nobody is allowed to say thank you to people who do their jobs!

Not when they go beyond the call of duty. In essence these people don't just perform normal duties. They keep our country safe. When you see or experience it first hand only then you'll be able to appreciate it!!!!

That's the point! They volunteer to perform these duties out of a sense of pride and duty to their country. It certainly isn't for monetary gain! Honestly you ungrateful sod.

As an army wag I am voting cold on this.

It's a day for civvies to go and have a good time out but those service men and women are there feeling like crap that they are losing another weekend.

If they want to celebrate the forces how about they give them an extra day off or reward, not give them extra work to do

I was going to "like" but i can safely say that you don't feel like crap being there and working. If they just give us another day off then we don't get to see the appreciation that thousands of civvies turn up and show us.

Having just had over 5000 people turn out for a special military occasion in Devon, despite the horrendous rain, and only being in charge of sorting a small part of the day out. I don't care that i lost 2 weeks and a Saturday, i know that 99% of the other lads didn't begrude it either. Those who did well they can go and sign off can't they.

Oh and we were granted an extra day off for the Saturday.

Funnily enough I can't find it in me to get proud of anyone whose job description boils down to "assassin", no matter if they do occasionally take time out of their busy killing and maiming schedule to go help out flood victims.

Some (no doubt charming) propaganda days out won't change that. I suppose they'll have to be content with my tax money paying for it. And indeed their wages while we're on the subject.
