i heard about a service called Zinio today, which some Boroughs sign up to, which allows members of the library to read loads of magazine titles. Being a lady I looked up women titles, but there are absolutely loads. not the easiest to navigate around and not in every area but better then a kick in the teeth!

Libraries NI offer this online service for both books an digital magazines. For the cyclists out there note that you can download and read Cycling Weekly each week using the Zinio for Libraries app.

I use this all the time and it is great. It is annoying to see that there are lots and lots of magazines until you log and you get a quarter of them available to you but this might be related to specific councils.

I pay £8 a month to read as many as I like on Readly. :-)

My local library used to have such a great ebook service, but they've cut back on it all due to budget costs and they don't offer any of the magazines.
I don't why the government don't role this out nationally instead of leaving it to local councils. Surely at the national level they would have more buying power to drive down costs from the providers?

I have been using Zinio for a while to get a number of free magazines each month. There is 'Zinio for Libraries' (free mags) and 'Zinio' (you pay for mags). You can set up an email service to let you know when the latest mag is out so you can download it. I think the mags have more adverts in them but I might be wrong. That said I did subscribe to a couple of mags through the post which cost a bit each month and they were still filled up with adverts. I use the Android app to read them on my tablet and there is an app for IPads. Unfortunately Windows does not have an app but you can log onto your account online to read them but cannot download them.
