This Virgin form will *only* stop mail addressed to you by the name on the Junk Mail.
If the mail come to "The Household" or "The Homeowner", it doesn't count if you've opted out by your real name. If you're getting junk in your name, then this form will work if you use the same name.
Should you opt out of the Royal Mail unaddressed, technically even a letter with your address on and "The homeowner" would still legally have to be delivered to your property. Royal Mail don't filter by the electoral role to stop those letters as they are addressed to 'someone' at the property - even if thats Mr/Mrs/Professor Homeowner.
If you do opt-out of Royal Mail, it's worth noting that:
I used to have a steering wheel between my legs that did that

I get generic Virgin promo leaflets through my door, but the worst bit is I can't even get it in my area. Was the exact same situation at my previous address too.

Weird, I don't recall ever getting any mail from Virgin and I was with them for my mobile for years!
On the other hand I am often getting TalkTalk junk mail even though I am already with them.

That is rather odd. "Don't want to hear from Virgin Media? Then have a look at Virgin Media's best offers!". Makes perfect sense.

I filled out a form a couple of years back to stop getting junk mail - Virgin started sending post to a non-existent Flat 1 at my address instead to get round it.

I tried the more direct approach and called Virgin Media. It took FOUR CALLS over the space of about 1 and a half years for them to comprehend my rather simple request to remove my name from their junk mail list. The only reason they had my details at all was because my dad had NTL cable in this flat - and of course Virgin bought NTL and they for some reason thought I'd enjoy being bombarded every single month without fail by offers of no interest to me.
They don't half get uppity when you ask to be "removed from your junk mail list" - one employee exclaiming "junk mail....?" YES!! You know that stuff I never ever asked to be sent, is of no interest to me as I have no intention of signing up with Virgin, and therefore is junk mail. There is not one single company in 12 years of living here that has ever come remotely close to being as big a PEST as Virgin are. The fact that they ignore your request the first few times ensured that even if they had the best offer around, I would never even consider them as a provider for anything.

I still get junk posted from RM too. I asked a friend who is a postman about this, and he said they do it because it takes them too long to sift through the people who don't want it, and it's too much hassle for some of them.

If you opt out with Royal mail, don't hold your breath. The posties get paid for putting junk mail through your door and therefore will ignore it.

Have a read of this:
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Managing-Your-Account-Cable/How-to-stop-Virgin-Media-sending-me-physical-mail/td-p/2016562
a) Morally opposed to the idea of simply sending it back with the words "return to sender" attached
b) Too outraged to simply put it in the bin
Why not try burning it? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2145303.htm
