App is on Phone
Extension is for PC Desktop
E.g You are on PC and reading a webpage, you read something you like and want to save it on keep
Simply highlight the text on PC, and right click and it will save to Keep

Keep on phone and tablet, sharing notes between family members etc, such as the weekly shopping list, i love it. wonder what the chrome bit does that the standard Google Web page app doesn't do? Although i don't use chrome as my browser.

Although this is compatible with Apple devices too, Apple users should give the standard notes app a go - it's often neglected.
The Apple notes app is actually really good and does more than Google Keep, e.g. attach any kind of file, such as pdf, zip, doc, etc. You can unzip files, attach images, lock individual notes, draw/sketch with colours, add audio (use the recording app then share to the notes app to attach it to a note), recover deleted files, sync across devices, create lists, plus more.
You can't use the advanced features with other Notes servers that can sync with the Notes app, such as Google Notes. You need to either use iCloud or no server at all (stored on device). I don't think that's an Apple limitation for once, though.
Sorry for going off-topic - a lot of people just aren't aware of all this. Apple's notes app improved a lot over the past year.
You know the diff between a Chrome App and Chrome Extension?

This should probably be on the freebies section. The OPs referring to a new Chrome extension that allows you to share text and web page URLs. It is very easy to use and very useful. It gives Keep new functionality that shows Google is working on evolving Keep into something that would be hard to live without.

I use the mobile app everyday and the website version for my PC. I guess having it as an extension means I can create a shortcut and access Google Keep quicker on my PC.
