Thought this might be of interest to some people and can't see that it has been posted before ...
I was in the Southampton branch of "Go Outdoors" today and noticed that they are currently offering their Discount Card free of charge. This is normally £5/year and entitles the customer to:
1. General Discount: Save at least 10% off the retail price of everything they sell.
2. Price Guarantee: Show them a cheaper price on any product they sell and they'll beat it by 10%.
3. Other Exclusive Offers
I asked the clerk if he knew when the offer would end (didn't want to bother posting this if it was imminent or very short term) but he didn't know. He did say, however, that it had been running for many months.
So, if you don't have a Go Outdoors Discount Card, now would be a good time to get one.
Nationwide "deal" (apparently) but seems to be in-store only.
I asked him if I could renew mine fro free (mine runs out in early June) but he said no :o(

Hey GrumpyBob, nothing to stop you getting another one I guess?

Nice idea but you have to give them your home address (so they can (optional) send you a catalogue occasionally) so they'd probably balk at that.

Shame there isn't a store near me. I'd like one but just for online orders.

Not sure I can bring myself to vote hot, as their prices aren't that great even with the card and the staff (in my store) are pretty awful, but thanks for posting anyway.

How can their prices not be great if they beat others by 10%? Did you read the post?

The point being they beat any other price by 10% in store. So you can try, find on the internet cheaper and get 10% off that with no postage. I've picked up loads of bargains.

Im assuming you know everyone who works there personally to throw such a comment out into the world. It would be ridiculously callous of you otherwise ...

This is untrue and rather ridiculous. Not sure how you came to this assumption

When they started I bought a 'LIFETIME' Discount Card ........ only to be told they had 'converted' it into an annual card - Go Outdoors and I ended our relationship at that point.

Go Outdoors is brilliant... it is the only place I have found that sells uncoloured ethanol... meant to be for camping but is awesome for cleaning almost everything!

Who's to say you don't live in a flat and if you do just give them your house number. If it's instore only, presumably you get to fill in the form by hand, so there's no postcode cross check.

Go outdoors have some AMAZING deals. Highly recommend, especially now membership is free too, it's a no brainer if you live near one and enjoy the outdoors. The only thing I have received because I gave them my address is a thin magazine each month with their latest membership discounts.

Just phoned up the Chester branch and they were still quoting £5 for membership. They didn't mention you could get it free in-store :disappointed:

Nah... pink metho doesn't clean as well... in Australia it is sold without colour & is the same as the one I managed to find at go outdoors. You can buy it in any supermarket in Oz but they do keep it behind the counter in stores that serve Aboriginal communities up north. Sad but true.

All I picked up was a wasted hour of frustration, a discount card I didn't want and a few quid off. I wished I had supported the independent that was selling the boots for £40 less than GO, but I have done ever since.

The reason behind the address is not for the magazine. They take a few details not for marketing but if you loose or forget your card you can still say you have an account and they can search it for you.

Ok there prices are not that great. Guess you must have missed that they do price match as they generally are cheaper. And if anyone is in UK is found to be cheaper they beat there price by 10%. Don't know how there prices are not that great then
