Opera has just announced that they have integrated unlimited and free VPN in their web browser, no separate downloads just download Opera and youre good to go. Really good when you want to hide your IP address and whilst youre on a public wifi, or if you wish to view blocked content.
There isnt a dedicated tab for VPN on the browser yet so you will just need to go to settings and turn on the VPN, this is currently available as a desktop version only, might get this on mobiles too.
The Opera VPN is only good for your browser, which means that if you connect another software like photoshop (sorry couldnt think of a better one), you wont be able to hide your ip address.

If you are concerned about the snoopers charter you will also be concerned about your call records and texts being stored indefinitely WhatsApp give end to end encryption which hopefully means you are secure against that. There already exists a relatively simple hack that anyone who has your number can use to get your location, texts and numbers dialed using your phone.

Whatever VPN solution you need to change your DNS settings to prevent your ISP knowing your search history (which soon the government will automatically collect from your ISP), try Google which are;

I use Opera mini on my mobile,as it saves a lot on data charges when I'm out and about.
At home,I use Zenmate VPN if I want to watch videos which Opera doesn't show.
Zenmate can be bit hit and miss tho,as sometimes is very slow loading pages.

Remember to disable webrtc or that will report your real IP even with Opera VPN.
I use cyberghost VPN and had some issues with it, everytime I closed my lpatop (didnt turn off) and then logged back in, the wifi wouldnt conect, it drove me up the wall, after several ttempts to fix the issue i found that I had to just exit cyberghost and then restart it, it fixed the issue.

Thanks for that, I tried it and it didn't work for me using Windows 7. I disabled a virtual connection in network settings and my wifi came back on. :-)

Agreed :smiley:. I just would not go out of my way paying too much for a VPN service that cannot possibly claim to offer 100% Anonymity judging by what the Makeuseof site states on my previous comment in response to Taz :smiley:

Yes,but it doesn't play a lot of videos,which is why I use a VPN as well.
My biggest worry with VPN's is the VPN spying on my browsing. Is this the case, can they view what I do? I know by not using a VPN it's X amount worse, but just wondered if it can also be dangerous using a VPN?

I have Windows 8.1, so it was straight forward. As wi-fi is my default connection, what I did was right click using the mouse the network icon on the bottom right and selected troubleshoot problems and it repaired the wi-fi issue. Hope this helps.

Chrome also does this sort of in a roundabout way. If you install the official chrome data reducer extension by google.

But that excludes HTTPS, and is a proxy, so you're IP is still very visible...
Opera has offered data compression for a couple of years, so actually Chrome copied them... But to wrap it all into a VPN (with the potential of adding compression too, maybe?) is a nice move.

Just a mention that the developer version kept crashing my laptop's wi-fi. I tried it with the vpn switched on. I don't know why, but I am guessing there are still bugs in this version. After I uninstalled this - the wi-fi stopped crashing and resumed to normality.
Did anyone else encounter this problem with wi-fi on their laptops?
