Has Norton been any good for 20 years? I thought it was just PCWorld tried to charge £30 quid for to computer novices?

Post a link to a survey and everyone loses their mind how they want to protect their personal details.
Post a link to some newly established, unknown cloud storage, and everyone signs up, uploads data and links it to FB for a puny 500MB...

Already had two accounts of Mega that offer 50GB each but another one is always welcome.

How would you rate Mega as compared to onedrive and also pcloud, I've never heard of thepcloud. Is it a reliable site?
I've only used Onedrive so wondering how they'd compare regarding speed of uploading and reliabliltiy in general?

First I've read about pCloud. But anyway, Mega's great the files are stored forever (unless you receive a copyright claim which they remove and that's that) and the speeds are really fast too.
http://www.abelhas.pt is going strong too -- this is a hosting website that also keeps files permanently, exceptional speeds too and unlimited bandwidth. Keep in mind, this is a Portuguese hosting website so not available in English but it's pretty standard stuff as to how to get around it anyway (Google could help out translating it).

you can actually unlink your onedrive account after you've got the full 50gb allowance and it doesn't revert to the standard allowance.
it's worth clicking the "get more space" option when you sign in as there are some easy steps to get a few more gig - you can install the desktop client, upload some files e.t.c... and if you complete all the steps in the "get free space" section, you get an extra 3gb - although the "get started with pcloud basics" doesn't seem to work, which is convenient
backing up facebook and instagram photos (if you have them) will also get you an extra 1gb

Is anyone having issues backing up from Drop Box or One Drive... I set the account access ok.. then got to run a backup.. and it just sits there with status Waiting. I stop the job.. restart and still the same. I have verified my email and check the account details... strange...
HankHandsome to Sharkfinger
2 Mar 16#24
i couldn't get anything to back up at all - i set it to back up my facebook and instagram photos just for the extra space, but nothing worked - it kept offering me the chance to restart the backup but still did nothing.
hopefully it'll start working as i can see it being quite handy for a backup solution as it appears to schedule the backups automatically, so it could well be a case of set it and forget it.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us.
Please note that you have to wait for a while after you start the backup process.
Since many users are backing up their OneDrive accounts, this may take some time.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I just ran up my laptop, first time since signing up for this and it threw up a notice to say Windows Defender quarantined a trogan - on investigation it was pCloud!
It may or may not be correct but I've just rebuilt this machine so I'd like to keep it squeeky clean and have removed all traces of pCloud - I thought I'd come back here and mention it.
I'll stick with the services I know and trust which have been reliable...at least they have so far!

Anyone with a bit of common sense knows what looks dodgy and should be avoided on the internet. For anything that gets through Windows Defender will flag it. Any "Internet Security" based products are completely overkill and only used by those sold it by a PC World salesperson.

I don't know why I am bothering responding to your post as it adds very little value to my comment which was just making people aware of a potential threat I found, others may not. The point of which particular Anti Virus application picked up the threat is neither here nor there, its the fact that it picked it up, but hey ho...
As I said in my post, this was a newly built machine. It has a new SSD with Windows 10 Pro which has Windows Defender built in installed. While I finish building and installing what I need Windows Defender will do just fine as a baseline level of protection.
It will most likely get Avast as the most recent release seems to pip AVG in the latest review of the best Free Anti Virus solutions. I've used both of these for over 15 years and they both continue to remain a popular choice with reviewers . The nine or ten devices in this house run either one or the other, alongside MalwareBytes.
I am not saying for one minute that Kaspersky isn't a good Ant Virus app mind you, I do rate it although it has been said to be resource hungry AND...you have to pay for it. It may have escaped your attention but this is a site called HotUKDeals, Avast and AVG are both free so I'm happy to use a solution that does the job for free!
In any case, my post was to mention a threat from pCloud, just a heads up and hoping to be helpful. I didn't want to get into a debate over Anti Virus applications so can do without your criticism in my choice...whatever that is and making me sound like some idiot without a clue what I'm doing.
Go find anther thread/forum to spout your views on Internet security and anti virus solutions!

You are so very, very wrong there. I agree a lot of fools click through to things they shouldn't, but hackers can infiltrate even legitimate websites. I have myself seen an extremely legitimate website, well regarded, professional, and universally hailed as a top-notch source of reference material for engineering, be taken down briefly after becoming infected.

Read T&Cs "In consideration of being provided with use of the Site and the Services made available pursuant to these Terms, you give pCloud permission to use your User Content as follows: you grant to pCloud and its affiliates a worldwide license to use, copy, perform or display your User Content in connection with providing you access to the Site and/or Services only. We may display advertisements in connection with your User Content or on pages where your User Content may be viewed by you or others"
So you hand over all your data to them and they display it with adverts. Really?
You lost all confidentiality.
Not for me.

Just so happen to think your whinging was invalid, particularly when it is not a newly established unknown cloud storage provider.
And as it so happens, it is those that are ungrateful whingers on this very forum that do not post deals aka contributing...coincidence, I think not.
gwapenut
8 Mar 161#51
I think he was making a pertinent point, though clearly my opinion should be taken with a pinch of salt as I don't post many deals.
Quite frequently people see a deal asking to link this or that in return for a small freebie. This may be an rstablished provider, but often the entities are unknowns.
As an example, who apart from "Common Sense" bothered to read the T&Cs and learn that they or their bots ANALYSE what you upload with a view to showing ads? It may not stop me from claiming 50Gb with them, but it would certainly change how I use that 50Gb of storage.

Very true, but to come in here with totally the wrong attitude even before common sense stated these terms and conditions was hardly making a pertinent point. Your final sentence in your own view of pcloud's free 50gb storage however does.
