Aviva have a similar offer which is a 1 years free cover for a child (before their 5th birthday I think). Just don't think it is really worth all the hassle just for a years cover.
Do you expect to die in the next year? Obviously such a tragic event would be a major shock to most families, and in those circumstances £10K probably wouldn't be enough to provide adequate cover to your loved ones.
Obviously if you are likely to want to renew the cover and pay after the year then it would be a good deal but otherwise you're just handing all your details over to be bombarded 12 months from now. Far better to invest in proper cover that you don't have to rely on remembering to renew etc.

If you're interested in substantial life cover (to cover mortgage, family income etc) then I'd recommend buying through this site: https://www.moneyworld.com/life-insurance/
You can either take their standard quote (which when I was searching a year or so ago was always the lowest around anyway) but you can also opt to pay a one-off fee of £25 to get a lower premium still (which normally pays for itself very quickly). Likely to make significant savings over the course of the policy or policies for exactly the same product (i.e. Aviva, Legal & General, etc).

Please, if you've no experience of something, don't post rubbish.
I did this 18 months ago; I got one letter telling me it was about to expire. Nothing since.
For all the hassle this is (Fill out a couple of forms, sign a letter), it's worth it for 10k should the worst happen - there's nothing to stop you having other policies, so this is just a little extra piece of mind.

There's a method of rotating the cover to cover yourself for the first 5 years of your youngest child's life, which I'll not post to take credit for.
Basically read the terms of conditions of free insurance from Tesco, Post Office, Emma's Diary / Boots / other baby starter pack, and finally Aviva who seem to underwrite all the cover from these providers. Some are the first year, some are for one year within the first five years, and applies to the youngest child if you wish.
We're into the fourth year of our free cover with Tesco currently, but have used POst Office and Aviva before, and have at least 2 more options until youngest turns 5 (new date of birth to input, so we can go back to Aviva once more).
