Well, what a really stupid comment. Perhaps if you travel to London then it might be of benefit. Voting cold just makes you look very very silly.
If that was your purpose, then congratulations you succeeded!

I travel daily in London, have an iphone & mastercard. Itcosts, £11 per day using my Oyster so it's a saving of £33 - that's a lot of my money in my books. Double heat from me!! Better than the one off wild goose store specific Tesco deals.

Sure - as long as you don't start waving it around on the bus in central London, or something silly like that.

That's only for purchases on the iPad, you can't use it for contactless payments.

How can this be free, you have to pay fees using Mastercard and Apple Pay as a customer, so they recoup money from you eventually. Cash is king, even if you pay more, includes cash loaded into Oyster, as cash has Queen's head on it, and the Queen's blessing for her loyal subjects, the bottomline is, people are employed to count the cash even it is inefficient as Mastercard and Apple Pay means the efficiency pays for company profits shipped abroad and investment on technology (much create employment abroad) rather than employment of loyal citizens and subjects of the Queen.

So you do pay fees for using Cash, since tfl needs to employ people to count cash.

sure I do cash, 90% of time. An example of how maths works, for illustration with big assumptions, £30m cost to count the cash in employing London workers, workers income spend £30m back into the UK economy, money goes round and round in the UK. Replace that with Mastercard and Apple Pay + technology , this saves as £30m efficiency , but assume £15m is passed on to passengers as cheaper fares, £15m goes to Mastercard and Apple Pay + technology infrastructure, part of this £15m is exported to Mastercard and Apple in USA earnings as corporate profit, part of this is buying and running the imported technology and infrastructure. Net money circulating previously in UK economy was £30m, now just £15m.

If cash is king but you use oyster card, then I would recommend you to use paper ticket. It will cost more to buy a paper ticket but you will provide more jobs in the UK. Oyster card is not 100% own by TFL as you may think, it is also owned by EDS (owned by HP) and Cubic Transport System, both are 100% American companies. So how can Oyster card be free too?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyster_card#Operator
Then let's make sure we buy a phone that is produced purely in the UK, wait.. let's make sure that we buy nothing that is produced outside of this country. Then... why are you here in HUKD?

Well, one cannot be perfect, I did try to buy lots from Marks when they had factories here, but sadly, one cannot survive by buying only British, but spending cash as much as possible is easy to do, unless one has to have credit or debt. So, if it's English ale or Carlsberg, English ale for me every time, pay with cash, of course. Out of order to have debt on credit card, pay for a pint of foreign plonk. That's a double whammy versus English ale paid for with cash.
