Why? What about people who are obese, have diabetes in their families, have other conditions predisposing them to diabetes or even those with impaired glucose tolerance (precursor to diabetes)?
These devices cost very little and, personally, I applaud anyone who wants to keep an eye on their BMs. It's all part of taking responsibility for one's health. Primary prevention is always better than treating a disease process that has already begun.
Obviously people cynically ordering several to resell are pretty low and should feel ashamed.

I got a different meter from hot deals once before... it was good. my father n law found it easy to use ( he has type 2 and dementia ) but his doctor said the test strips were to expensive so he could prescribe them!
i dont know if its worth trying this or not?

I think one touch ultra mobile meter is best as it is all in one and less parts to carry.
Boyf has Type 1 and was carrying around an old brick for ages, but has had the Accu Chek mobile for a year and a half thanks to HUKD. He thinks it's the best meter he's ever had, easy to use, carry and pretty accurate.
Not sure why this is Type 2 only, maybe the company manufacturing them see a gap in the market as Type 2 sufferers tend not to get free meters, etc, whereas Type 1 patients do. Maybe offering the free meters is a way of generating income for the strips, lancets, etc.
All the evidence suggests that if you are Type 2 and test or don't test has no impact on your diabetes progression. People who do test may be prone to developing anxiety.:man:

Exercise and determination reduced sugar levels and effectively 'reverses' the need for meds. The only way to successfully monitor the success and stay off meds is to use as machine - as I do and I've been off meds for a year. Within a machine, how would I monitor my blood sugars?

if does not make too much difference as you know your own body but in order to keep your driving license you need to test everytime you get in to drive.it is one of the rules the dva has in order to keep driving, also your insurance company might want to know the results if you were to have an accident (not usually).if you have a hypo you need to declare that as well as getting a medical done every couple of years depending on past events and records being kept.also your diabetic nurse will want to see your records roughly every 6-12 months.

I can't speak for everyone but I can tell you I'm getting one as diabetes is common in my family (both type 1 and 2) so I'm getting this to keep an eye on my blood glucose levels so that if I am affected by diabetes later in life I will be able to notice it and deal with it quickly.

Ordered one as I have diabetes in the family. When I was at the GP last he flat refused to do a blood test for cholesterol/diabetes as they don't do this routinely until over 40 (i'm shy a couple of years) and unless one feels unwell.

Graham1979 you dont use these on an arm. you use them on a finger. And not everyone gets them from the doctor. They dont tell everyone about them. I got mine because I ASKED for one. And I got it from the NURSE, not the Doctor.

Order it, use the strips etc just to see how your sugar levels are and when they are high or low (try it before andafter eating sweet foods tis quite interesting what goes on in your body) then take out the batteries which are usually branded ones and chuck the meter!
OK screw the environment FREE BATTERIES and track marks on your arms like a smack head!

Things have changed so much in this time space, whats available now in such small sizes is amazing.
T1 Diabetics can get (almost) any blood glucose monitor free of charge (that has been approved for the UK market), the market for selling blood glucose monitors here in the uk privately, is miniscule, for anyone claiming these and trying to sell on ebay, shame on you, for the sake of a few quid, you disgust me.
Those who actually NEED these may have to go without because of your greed, appauling behaviour imo.

All meters are not the same and they don't suit all types of people so sometimes for diabetics to try a free meter that might be easier to use than their current one is really helpful. Heat added op good deal for those who need it.

I don't think all type 2 diabetics are routinely given metres.
Some may find this deal useful if they want to keep an eye on there blood sugar levels between routine blood tests.
If they find the machine useful then they could request the lancet and strips on prescription.
