Sweetest offer I've seen in a while. Apparently this is national. Note it says "outfit" not just "suit" so it wouldn't be limited to suits. Could have your dress cleaned up if you're a woman. Or indeed a man who likes to wear dresses.

I used this offer myself 12 months ago, after being made redundant from my previous job, finding myself out of work, lack of confidence, money tight. I saw this offer myself whilst doing small shop at local Tesco's and so I got my suit dry cleaned for an interview I had. The friendliness and professionalism of Timpson's kind offer, helped give me gain confidence back in myself, plus ensured I was well presented at interview. Although a small gesture it made a big deal to me, helping me gain a short term contracting job, which has since been renewed further 3 times, I'm still here - so thanks Timpson's - A shining example in helping others!!

On the deal it's good. Also, if it's still going there was an allowance you could get from the benefits office that paid for a new suit, shirt, tie and trousers if you needed them and had an interview coming up. I got mine from Burtons.
Graham1979
13 Feb 16#31
Or factually accurate? If you can't buy a 10 quid shirt and tie from Tesco then why would I employ that person. We are in a state of affairs where people will blame anything on not getting a job.
Good for a free service for the unemployed but what type of condition would you have allowed "interview" clothes to get into?

I think some people are utterly obsessed with me always being annoyed...? I type exactly how I talk - it was actually mild perplexity. Yes it was a fair question and I answered it to the best of my knowledge. I didn't go in there I just took a pic of the sign, and came home and posted it as I thought and hoped that it would be helpful for those struggling. I certainly know how damn depressing it can be being unemployed and this seems to have cheered some people up on here which is a nice thing.

13 Feb 16#33
? ah, took a little digging but worked it out he's "friends" with cameron. Its a round about way of helping people off welfare. So you can look spiffy when you go for your low paid agency job in care. Yep check the government jobsite, about 80% of the jobs on there are through agencies now. Frightening. There is always a reason for freebies some are just less obvious than others.
Elevation to otterboxer

I would suggest you do a bit more digging if you think agency care workers are low paid - they're invariably paid more than full-time staff care workers!

Yes I don't understand why YOU need someone to clean your clothes for you to make YOU Please explain. Perhaps it's your lack of deep understanding as to why this nanny state is on its knees as people have become truly incapable of even the basics.
Generous offer by Timpsons and I am sure the free marketing and publicity wasn't even given a thought.
If you can't arrive clean and presentable for an interview you stand no chance and rightly so. If you have a specific suit for interviews I assume your not rolling round in it playing football on a weekend.

If you could realise everyone is in different circumstance some people could make good use of this. Ovcorse its advertising though its still a good service. And the 'nanny state' is because of the many things, I done blame the people. Its media, toxic food emf radiation amongst other things its not our fault we are born into a corrupt world. Compassion for other people, you could try contribute or be closed minded. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

13 Feb 161#41
I would say the point about "provides free advertising" isn't even relevant - I think the person concerned would find that paying customers also get packaging with "Timpson" written all over it. So unless they make unemployed people wear a Timpson t-shirt and give them a megaphone to shout "EVERYONE GO INTO TIMPSON!!", which is fairly unlikely, then that's a fairly feeble reason to diss them over this.

Luckily my immediate family and I have always been employed since leaving school , however one of my job brings me into contact with a fair amount of people who for all sorts of reasons are unemployed. Some of them no doubt will be buying interview clothes from charity shops and a dry clean first I'm guessing is going to make that prospect a little better. I'd far rather see help like this offered to people who are actively looking for work and trying to look their best for interviews. We could all second guess the marketing value of this to Timpsons, but I think I just prefer to see it as a rather lovely gesture.
Elevation to tinkerbellian

No no, apparently there's only either pristine shop bought or rolling around in muddy fields all day long. :smirk:
As I've said the marketing thing doesn't really hold up - a sign stuck outside a shop isn't exactly unusual, and every customer paying or not will be coming out with the same packaging with Timpson written on it - as you'd expect. Word of mouth would be good though - but again that's always happening regardless of any offer like this. Maybe just maybe there IS a shred of decency and kindness left in the world of trade.

What do you think this thread is? Several people have actually said they'll specifically go out of their way to shop there now as a direct result of this. Things can be both well intentioned and good marketing, so their implication that the owners don't actually care is unfounded, but this is rather obviously marketing. I still remember when they launched it and it got national media attention for the entire day...
Why so many people seem to think you're easily annoyed I have no idea...

I don't see why Timpsons getting good marketing coverage from this offer is a bad thing. I don't work for Marketing department, maybe if you fall on hard times, or loose your job, see how your life changes, confidence goes, easy to get stuck in a rut and being on benefits for short period of time or long period of time is not a nice experience. I treated everyday as if it was a normal working day whilst trying find work, I did online courses, used Library computers and yes I used the Timpson's Dry Clean a Suit Free for Unemployed. I'm not ashamed to admit this, I'm a very proud man and the kindest of others, helped in my job searches, made me professional look when attending interviews and I got a job and my confidence back through working again!
