Was in my local store last night and the woman who served me, said to help myself to the biscuits lined up along the window. Said they are old stock and they will just chuck them! Still in date too.

Wish people using food banks would stop wasting money on cigarettes and get a job.

It is very small-minded to react in this way. You don't know what leads each person to the food bank. Stereotyping is a very immature reaction.

I don't normally get involved in things like this however, I help on Food Banks and regularly witness (ok everytime) people claiming food bank then going outside and selling it for a tenner. THEN they hop on over to another food bank and claim another. There is no electronic system to spot who is having the food. It's SO corrupt it's ridiculous! As for johngorrie you thought being redundant was your lowest point? No, wishing illness on someone else is officially a lot lower.

There are several situations that you might have to resort to food bank. You can be earning enough money to not get welfare in order to pay student fees/debts etc, and you can at times rely on food bank.
You are ignorant if you think the world is all about black and white with those who don't and those who do. Theres no line between you and the man living on the street. No line.

The funny British. The middle class look down on the working class because they take unemployment benefits.
The middle classes then claim far larger benefits in the form of housing benefits so they can live in "nice" middle class areas so their kids can fiddle the system and enrol in schoolsthey have no right to go to. and as for the eye watering amount of working tax credits they take from the state.
Then you have to upper classes who look down their noses at everyone who then employ "grant" specialists who claim millions of pounds from UK and EU governments so they can rebuild their crumbling walled gardens/agricultural fences/agricultural buildings, rotten roofs/dovecotts,crumbling greenhouses, moats, ironwork etc etc.
And yet the person getting a loaf of bread and a pot noodle for free is seen as the reason this country is going down the toilet. The British Public what clowns

People on benefits should know better than to spend the money on iPhones. Android is much cheaper, leaving more money for beer.

Perhaps you'd like to meet the self employed courier on our street who ended up at a food bank when City Link went into administration leaving him and his wife with no money for rent or food. Or did he waste all his money on cigarettes and booze as well? I mean, clearly you have displayed so much knowledge on the subject.

Sure, I'd love to hear his excuse for not finding a job while Romanian or Polish folks, many of which hardly speaking English and knowing nobody, do it within a week and pay their own bills.

FYI: I do not and have never claimed 'Welfare' even though I have paid into the system for 30+ years .
Yet, even I know that the statement you have made is not true and has not been true for many many years.
I hope you never need to claim benefits and experience the prejudice you have so clearly demonstrated.
Even though some may play the system, it does not mean by any measure that the majority are undeserving.
Your empathy with your fellow citizens is overflowing ....... Not!!
The old 'I'm all right Jack, stuff everyone else' attitudes still persist under the guise of concern about the costs of the Welfare system.
It is a positive joy to realise the 'Thatcherite mentality' has a new generation to carry its message forward into the bright future.

I don't agree each case is different but if you are a single person no family you do not even get enough to cover the rent the housing benefit for single people is really unfair and you are expected to pay the extra from jsa/esa which is already set at the minimum a single person needs to live on so really it's only people that have children/family that benefit.

I had a period of being unemployed for nearly 2 years. not for the want of trying to get a job.
I would hate to be in a position where I had to go a food bank so that I could feed my family.

Good to see there is still compassion in this world!!! Some people's attitudes are disgusting. It shows your ignorance thinking people who use the food banks all smoke and are lazy
