Under the Lumia Offers App they are offering 1 year Office 365 subscription & 1TB OneDrive. Looks like it might only be for 950 & 950XL owners but am not sure. Can be used on one device.

So, an iPhone costing £500 is better than a Lumia costing £100? Who'd have thought that?

To be honest, most reviews I've seen for the 950/950XL say the hardware is fine, but almost all say the phones are let down badly by the software, i.e. Windows.

The Windows store is woefully lacking and when you think you've found something it's 99% of the time a fake app which pretending to be well known things like Whatsapp or MayMyRide. Most of them are just there to try to steal your facebook login, etc, also you can't install many apps without also giving Microsoft permission to spy on your data within that app.

I've found very few apps missing. The interesting one is that HUKD's app is rubbish on Windows compared to Android. But most others are fine and the interface is much more consistent across all apps than Android. Plus, it is buttery smooth, even on low end hardware. In that sense far superior to Android. I still have Android on a second device, but switched to WP for my main phone. Contacts and calendar management is better than Apple even. It's now difficult to justify the premium for Apple stuff. And for real world stuff, calling, switching between calls, texting, contacts etc then Windows wins by a country mile. A pity, because I don't like Microsoft. But hey, they spy on you Less than Google these days. Who would have predicted that 10 years ago!

My previous employer decided to roll out Windows phones and presented us with Nokia 520s; a number of people, including me, elected to take the SIM out and put it into their own iPhone.

If privacy is really such a concern, don't use a computer/phone. In fact, don't even leave the house.

I loved my 635 until Cortana was introduced, now more or less dead as it fails to function as a phone. Couldn't find the Lumia app in the store either but good luck to those fortunate enough to make use of this deal.

Actually, I used an older model iPhone 4, which I bought s/h for just over £100; thus (a) the price was comparable, and (b) I considered it worth spending my money versus having the Nokia which was given to me.

My sis has just got the 950 and loves it, how do you get the dock for free? Personally I've had a Lumia for the past 4+ years now, got the 820 at the moment which is a good 3 years old and still I have no problems with it, the battery lasts and its easy to use. Yeh the apps are not as comprehensive as android or itunes but I have an android tablet so anything I lack on my phone I have on there instead. Plus I would never give money to Apple ever.

The free dock was only for the 950XL unfortunately

I've found it more difficult to switch off the monitoring within Google's eco-system, than it is to switch it all off and/or block it (with third party apps, for free) within the MS eco-system.
Anyway, this post was for Windows Phone, not Windows 10. I was principally comparing WP, Android and iOS (which I understand is now based on Linux).
Of course, you could always do it right and plump for Linux. There's not much lacking on a PC with Ubuntu, Libre office and, say, Thunderbird for e-mail. It'll run faster than any Windows machine and it will not crash. How novel!

I use the s5 mini for work, although the phone is on intend to dislike the Broad operating system and with it being work phone I use this moretha my personal phone. I recently broke my lumia 640 and bought a lumia 535. Both phones being in the budget category (under £100) I find a it better and smoother than the S5 mini and can't wait to put the s5 down when I finish work as I am constantly using apps to save memory to make it usable (I have a the bare minimum of apps) and the battery apps to save battery.
*I prefer windows out of preference, I nut saying android is bad, just a pain compared to Windows and apple products.

If you did get this offer it might be worth logging into the Microsoft office account and switching the auto-renew off, not worth £59.99 next year!
That worked, thanks. No offers are showing up on the app for me though.

Nearly.
Apple created the Darwin project which was an offshoot of BSD https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system)
BSD is a complete OS peer reviewed and packaged as a whole, whereas Linux is a Kernel which others package around in various ways with fewer standards.
It's like running FreeBSD or OpenBSD on your PC - check them out.

Theres a huge, huge, difference to choosing to post updates to friends on social media and your OS having access to all your private documents, search queries, web browsing habits, what programs you use and for how long, your emails, your IMs, webcam and microphone (yes Windows 10 does send webcam and voice packets back to Microsoft) the amount of data that gets sent on the wire from Windows 10 machine is ridiculous.

I take your point about Windows 10 but you can opt out. On Social Media, sites like Facebook do have access to your web browsing habits, what programs/apps you use and for how long. Facebook tracks you long after you've left it. All your posts and interests are sold on as targeted advertising which is where your privacy dies.

If anyone is just buying a Lumia now, check out the Lumia offers app. They are offerring £50 promotional credit to you and the person who recommended you to the Lumia. The crap bit is they need to recommend it before you've activated it.
If anyone wants to say I recommended a Lumia to them, you can try my email address: mtoner at hotmail dot com in the app since I'm a registered Windows Phone user - we should both get £50 credit
