In my experience Clearscore was more reliable than Noddle, as it picked up my mortgage application recently while Noddle never showed it (despite having their alert service active too). Hot.

There are 3 main Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs), Experian, Callcredit and Equifax.
Clearscore use Equifax
Noddle is part of Callcredit
Different lenders report to different Credit Reference Agencies, so it's normal for things to appear in one report and not on another. It's worth checking reports from all agencies on a regular basis.

Seems very good score is counted differently in comparison to experian

Heat added... + how do we know all such companies are protecting our data ? Use/Abuse ?? ID Theft ...

These credit agencies already have our details anyway, so I doubt signing up to access the data is reason in itself to worry about this ?

while signing up i did not provide anything that they did not already had, other than email address. so if they misuse the data, they can do without me registering

I would presume when a user signs up, clearscore pay equifax for the data. I doubt they have untapped access unless they get permission

Only draw back is that you can not print your credit report......

Anyone knows how to get Experian's report for free. Checkmyfile uses both Callcredit and Equifax for just £8,99 a month, found it more trustful than any of the other ones separately.

barclaycard offer experians free credit score (pretty meaningless though, and only updates every 2 months)

You can apply for the statutory credit report from either Equifax or Experian for around £3. I've used it several times over the last decade

Why do you consider it meaningless?
Taz1529

All scores are different between callcredit, experian and equifax. without supporting information to tell you why you have a score, it means nothing

Been using this for a few months now.
My favourite feature is what you've done differently this month (in a positive or negative way) e.g. reduced overdraft, increased credit limit and how this has affected your score.

if i have had a negative, how can i challenge / get it removed?
Tony68k to cache
4 Jan 161#25
Go to Equifax, who Clearscore use and get a £3 statutory report. From there you can challenge it directly with Equifax, they should give you links on their web site. They might push you back to the organisation who logged the data, such as a bank, so be prepared for a runaround at times. If there is a genuine error, you should find it cleared up quickly.
The £3 statutory report link will be hidden somewhere on their website, but it will be there. They are legally obliged to provide you with this. If you can't find it, go via google.

Lenders don't see the score, they judge you based of your history. The score is used part of their marketing tactics to purchase add ons such as noddle "improve" etc.
But I guess for yourself with clearscore you can see the average in your area and compare your score.

Anything like this for free is worth it, but after looking at my data I see a lot of it is missing. This isn't a patch on the level of information provided by Noddle. I would suggest signing up for both would work quite well, although getting the occasional £3 statutory report from the big three is the best answer.

WHY WOULD A CREDIT SITE NEED TO KNOW YOUR ANNUAL INCOME ?

So it can make you appropriate commercial offers, and in turn make money for themselves. No such thing as a free lunch... They offer services such as most suitable credit cards, loans, etc., based on your credit score and income, etc.

Just tell them a salary figure, any figure, if you are worried abut disclosing your real salary

There is also another company that is used called Hunter, I think. They check past information entered on crest applications such as salary etc to see if any discrepancies are present

I thought checking your credit score actually negatively affects your credit score. Is this wrong?
BeerDrinker to stigma

It logs a soft search on your record so doesn't affect it. Other lenders don't see soft searches.

There's no "might". All these agencies simply report your payments status (ie on time. late / missed etc) . Any errors have to be corrected by whoever reported them so you will always be pointed back to whoever reported them. Only the reporting company can change the status or correct errors.
However as you say if you see an error it should be pretty easy to go back to whoever reported it to query it. Remember also its a statement of fact, so if you were late paying on month for any reason, and its recorded as late, then that's correct, you can't remove valid entries you don't want on the record. You can add explanatory notes such as if it was a bank error, but there's no guarantee a lender will take them into consideration when you apply for any credit at all.
Tony68k
6 Jan 161#39
A 'negative' might be as simple as not having 'enough' credit history/accounts/debt, it doesn't necessarily mean adverse or bad history.
Tony68k
6 Jan 16#40
I say 'might' as sometimes they will do this themselves and can even temporary remove any adverse information until any investigation is complete. Some years ago I challenged a valid entry on my record. The Cred Ref agency removed the entry and told me they would contact the bank for confirmation. The bank never got back to them (too much effort put pull out the old records i presume) so the entry never got put back onto my record. Result!
Regarding putting a note on your file, this can in some cases had an adverse effect as it often forces any credit checks to be conducted manually so the notes can be read by a human, and some organisations just won't bother.
