Transport for London has announced that it will offer free travel on the Tube on New Year’s Eve.
That means that buses, Tubes, trams, the DLR, TfL Rail and London overground will cost nothing as people make their way from celebrations.
Travel will be free from 11.45pm on December 31 until 4.30am on January 1 after a sponsorship deal was struck with Kayak.co.uk

Same every year, shouldn't need a sponsor. Fares are high enough and should cover those few hours for free.

I'm going to take advantage and ride the tube all night long - that'll teach em :man:

Terrorism... What terrorism? Did you mean a potentially increased risk of extremist activity in the UK due to warmongering politicians too stupid to realise they are being sold another dodgy dossier by an even dodgier PM? Those Judaeo-Christian extremists who enjoy actually terrorising the millions of innocent ME citizens corralled into killing fields by historic geopolitical manipulation and divisive western foreign policy?
The small number of recently murdered people in Paris pales compared to the hundreds of thousands British Governments have played a major role in collaterally damaging.
We didn't stop using public transport or spending fun evenings out when the IRA were busily and regularly demolishing parts of Northern Ireland and mainland Britain. So why stop now?

Last time I did London transport on New Years eve I got mugged in the queue for the station ...wouldnt go anywhere near there New year again. The amount of people trying to get onto transport is shocking and i also wouldnt trust it on New year with terroism atm. But heads up for reminding people.

I agree although you might have to wait as you can't hardly get on a bus if you need it after midnight as they are usually heaving which is bit like during rush hour(!)

Not a case of needing it not. If someone offered you free money with no catch would you take it?

don't let the unions hear this talk of tubes and night time, combined with holiday season - that will just make them want to call a strike :stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting post, if only to find out who TFL managed to get to "sponsor" it this year (can't say I've heard of Kayak - which makes me wonder if a few bigger companies have decided to steer clear of sponsoring it this year due to the heightened terrorism threat and thus perceived risk to brand if the worst happened).
As for transport being jammed, not everyone travels in central London! The buses in the suburbs will be just as free as those taking the fireworks ticket holders home.

Surely this is not free money as such.
I suspect TFL must've got their money from council tax received from each of the 33 London boroughs contributions.

Same as every year - but yeah good to remind people. It gets insanely crowded though (stating the obvious) and should be avoided, if one can.

Free from 11.45pm. means you have to pay to go where ever you want to come back from.
Plus isnt the Fireworks all ticket this year, not sure how they are going to police that ?
