Unclutter your wallet and never forget a loyalty card again.
"Loyalty" cards....whilst I have a couple on a key fob and a few in my wallet it's often the same when I shop somewhere I don't use as often. "Yes....but I don't have it with me".
I thought it'd be a good idea to have an app with my loyalty cards in. I'm not talking about having the Starbucks app, the Game app, the Costa app etc. One app - all the cards. There are quite a few apps which have been created for this purpose. Most of them are geared towards the USA. I downloaded them and gave them a go. By the far the best I've found, for the UK, is "stocard". This seems to have by far the most retailers.
Setting it up is simple - if your loyalty card has a barcode you can scan it. If it doesn't you can choose the card type and enter the number. Hey presto it creates you a similar looking digital card. I was a little dubious at first as some of the retailers don't seem to have their own electronic cards but I haven't had a problem with any of them not accepting my phone as a card.
The phone will not scan successfully in all shops.
In my stocard for instance I now have : nectar, Tesco, Morrisons, Accor, Costa, CEX, Debenhams, Holland & Barrett, Waitrose, Club Carlson, hmv, Hertz, Shell, Game, Melia, Iceland, BA, Avios and Marks & Spencer.
I tried many cards in many stores using Stocard but it never ever scanned. The Shell petrol stations were the worst. Staff got angry at me for trying both times.

Yeah I have a couple of cards without barcodes that I don't imagine will work like Shell and Nandos, however Nandos does say it's for this country.
It's a cool app for sure, if it works... Think I'll try it out when I go to the stores but keeps my actual cards on me until I feel confident in the app. Cheers though, a great idea.

Quick question to the OP. I would like to Shell Drivers Club and KFC Colonel's Club card to this but they don't seem to be accepted - have you had any luck? I noticed you said Shell, so thought I'd ask!

Looking at it I do have a shell card there....but when I go to add search for "shell" it lists cards (such as Fuel Rewards) under "CARDS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES". It accepted my number but not sure it will work.

I've often wished that someone would invent one card for my wallet. I didn't know that this app was available. I've just registered all my cards. It's so easy! Now I just need the faith to empty my wallet of the cards

It's a great idea that doesn't work, tried scanning at Tesco and Sainsburys self service but with no luck. Assistant said I'd have to type in the long number!!!!

Loyalive is another alternative. I've got them both, prefer the look compared to Stocard.
If the scanner uses a laser it probably won't work unless you have a matte phone screen. Newer scanners use cameras so can detect an image on phone screens.

doesn't work to scan in Morrison's, but the checkout operator can key the number in, should be same at other outlets. might encourage them to upgrade, but it works fine and my wallet is a lot thinner

I guess for now it may not be a 100% replacement. I'll probably keep a few most used cards (or key fobs) handy. This can be useful for all the less frequented shops - not ideal to key in the number but better than nothing.

Doesn't work for me in Iceland or Waitrose :disappointed: once stores upgrade their scanners it will be great but who knows when that will be?!

its a great app wa using it too, BUT it would not work with old scanners. Samsung Galaxy range at least since S5 have this app called Beep'nGo (backed by some other software to help it out). that app works everywhere apparently. Tried useless Sainsburys scanners and it worked. apparently it works in a bit different way which does the trick...

just a note - for the scanner to read the barcode on the screen the brightness has to be set to max.
also for Nectar, some places need to swipe the card and cannot scan - my local argos for instance needs a physical card.

Loyalty cards, absolutely hate them. Damaged so many purses and Jeans pockets.
I seem to carry them everywhere yet when I need one in particular it's never there!

if you want your loyalty cards to be secure then use LockCard. StoCard is not very secure. You don't want all your hard earned loyalty card points be snapped by someone

I use this app and had some problems scanning them from the phone but just give the number to cashier or type myself with no issues. Saves carrying around the various different cards I have.

Do Apple have something like this? I mean a default app such as applepay, I'm a new Apple user and would trust apple more than a random company.

They don't, no. If store cards became contactless, which I suppose could well happen, then it could certainly work with Apply Pay, but at the moment it won't.
I've got all my store cards on key fobs with my keys which isn't really any kind of inconvenience, so i doubt i'd use an app like this anyway.

If you find that it does not work, try "beepngo" also free and works with older scanners (Uses a patented beaming technology) but....I think it is only for newer phones. (From iPhone 5 up and Galaxy Note 3 and up).

If you type "boo" only "boost" and "booths" show up. If you search for "boots" you do, as you say, get a result but in "cards from other countries" so I guess that explains it.

Boots is different - as you say - it's a chip card. Boots is not an option for stocard (superdrug is). You should be ok with iceland and nectar.
