From November 23rd, anyone using MasterCard with Apple Pay can travel for free on Transport for London every Monday. This campaign will run for four Mondays ending on December 14.
Apple Pay users that use MasterCard for their journeys for the remainder of the week will continue to benefit from TfL's weekly cap on travel fares.

this is really not on. I mean, it gets heat for being a good deal, but TFL services are essential for many families on various incomes. many who use the service can not afford premium priced apple devices either. I don't think a private company should be able to do this kind of thing, it doesn't feel right. especially when travel is already subsidised, I guarantee apple or Mastercard are not paying the full price for their tickets. So a good deal, but I am not exactly sure this one is ethical. still, if you have an apple device, enjoy!

Free travel for the rich. While the average person has to pay a significant part of his/hers salary to commute to work.
Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer. As Cameron said, "We are all in this together".

People saying Apple devices are only for the rich pipe down. Look at all the Council Houses with their Sky dishes, cigarettes and benefits not to mention their brand new £40+ p/m iPhones.

Last time Mastercard ran this offer it was for all Mastercard cardholders - its a shame that they have limited it just to Applepay users this time.. (as their overall purpose is to increase usage of contactless payments)

Thanks OP. I'll be making use of the offer today. Some people really do have a chip on their shoulder don't they? I wouldn't be surprised if Apple weren't paying a chunk towards this too. I'll take their money any day.

Look at the number of "Average Joes" with the latest Apple devices who can make use of this offer. It's not just the rich who own an iPhone :smirk:
Yes of course there are some really poor who don't have one and can't make use of this offer. But it's not like this offer is out of reach of the working class as some people are making it out to be.

Isn't the point to raise awareness of using Apple Pay, etc. Presumably there is some benefit to TfL on the basis that it'll save them money or make it easier for them if people use such services.
I fail to see how this offer affects poor people at all, it's not like they have to pay more to subsidise them

Max spend is about £27/28 over the term of the offer so not really free travel for all 4 eligible Mondays. Something to watch out for

Edit - it's per promotional period and I think each Monday is a separate promotional period.

For the very reason you've stated I take the opposite view (i.e. I'd be very surprised if Apple or MasterCard or whoever is behind this particular promotion isn't paying the full whack for the tickets).
