Scribus is very capable, fully featured open source desktop publishing (DTP) application. Since its humble beginning in the spring of 2001, Scribus has evolved into one of the premier Open Source desktop applications. Encouraged by professionals and beginners alike, the Scribus Team, with support from a large and growing number of enthusiastic contributors...
Its available for Linux, FreeBSD, PC-BSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, OpenIndiana, Debian GNU/Hurd, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp 4, eComStation, Haiku and Windows.
What is DTP?
-------------------
There's a big difference between a conventional word processor and a package designed for publishing or page layout. A proper publishing/DTP product makes it relatively easy to position items on the page precisely where you want them. Try moving an image or a headline around the page in Microsoft Word, however, to see just how difficult it can be in a word processor.
Whats the alternative?
------------------------------
In the world of commercial DTP software, Adobe InDesign is the most well known. But if you want a similar feature set for a lower cost (actually no cost at all), take a good look at Scribus. It's a complete DTP package which is free and open source, and it's available for Windows as well as other operating systems.
Why use Scribus?
------------------------
Because it’s reliable and Free. Free really means Free with an uppercase F. Free is more than just gratis (which is just a side-effect). It means that you are in control of your data and, if you wish, the code of your desktop publishing tool. That’s what smart individuals and companies prefer
I find Inkscape to be better, I used to use Scribus but now I use Inkscape more

I think you'll find Inkscape is a vector graphics editor, not a Desktop Publishing application. :stuck_out_tongue:

I know but I find I can create things better in Inkscape because it has more ability to draw shapes for layouts. Everything I made in Scribus looks too "boxy", maybe I just wasn't very good at using it but creating a nice wavey header with a gradient fill just seemed impossible in Scribus.
Sure, Scribus has the ability to change the colour schemes throughout quite easily but after I've had to import graphics from Inkscape or GIMP then I might as well just do it all in Inkscape or GIMP

High octane stuff, there are a number of guides on the internet.
The difference between DTP and WP.
In WP, the editing is primary, and layout is usually generalized.
In DTP, layout is primary, and can be tweaked in excruciating detail ... need a 10.1 point font size for perfect fit etc.

The link takes you to the download page for all operating systems.
Assuming you are using Windows, here are the links you need to download the software:
You'd think since Apple kind of took the idea of a package manager and applied it to phones, they'd have one for the desktop.

They do, it's called the App Store but stuff like this don't feature, it's mostly paid for software that the developers don't mind Apple getting a cut of the sales cost.

That's what you get when you buy proprietary software
