A very low key launch and no mention of it on the Roku website that I can find, but the Amazon app is finally available to download for free from your Roku.
I hope others find this helpful and are as pleased as me that this has finally happened.
Inexcusable how long it's taken them but great that it's finally here.

So, I guess I need to get it onto my NowTV box.
I wonder when/if it'll be out for the Apple TV?

Hahaha, I did wonder about the Amazon App on the NowTV Boxes, lol. :-)

The NowTV box is a rebranded Roku. With the simple hack to developer mode (do a google, it's really simple) I'd guess you should be able to get this app on it.

Think I'll be ditching the Fire stick and getting a Roku now.

Even with the hack to developer mode, its not straight forward to get this on the NowTV box as some one with more technical knowledge would have needed to upload the app in a compatible format with the NowTV box since Sky will probably block this from being downloaded?
Anyone who's managed to get this on the NowTV please let us know

I'd be amazed if this ever turns up on the NowTV box. If they won't allow Netflix, why would they allow this?

You started out so confidently, but finished up with a half-hearted guess that didn't help at all!

Fair comment. Just took a look and it's not there in the "streaming channels" (apps?) under "film/TV" or "internet TV", so I guess I was talking balls. Soz!

It is possible to install a single app onto the NowTV box using the developer mode. The process is very straightforward.
The problem is finding the app to download. Plex used to be readily available but the latest version available is over a year old.

Yes, I put the Plex app on, but then I realised I had to set up a PC as a server for it, so that's no good.
I might see if I can give this one a go though.

Well i'm guessing someone will be able to hack the amazon video app to work on the NowTV box at some point, whether its a month or a year will remain to be seen...

A NOW TV box is great value just for the free months subscription you get to whatever service you opt for and cancel the contract and you have a most useful tool for the various online catch up on the terrestrial channels.

Well, it wouldn't make sense to charge people for an app that is paid-subscription.

You would need the package of the Amazon app to load onto the box with dev mode enabled - and for that you would need to hope an Amazon dev would upload it online.

I think the now tv boxes are locked down more than you think.
I still think they are great. When now tv are giving you what is essentially a circa £65 roku2 for £15 and also bundling in a voucher for 3 months now tv service a can't blame them for not allowing netflix and amazon.
Now tv box is the most cost effective way of getting all the terrestrial catchup tv - but if you want it all you need to pay for the un-subsidised roku.
