Thankyou for that, yes he is getting better now, still has the E Coli though, may take up to 3 months to get rid of that - doesn't really affect him though, apart from the obvious watery poo! (sorry lol)

Oh my goodness I hope your little boy is ok now - that must have been truly terrifying for you.

Just a little reminder from someone who lives in Dorset and just been dragged to hell and back for the last month. The following is NOTHING to do with Monkey World I cannot stress this enough, but it is to do with all animal areas, especially here in Dorset.
There have been several outbreaks of E Coli O55 here in Dorset over the past few years, the most recent just over a month ago.
This particular E Coli strain is ONLY in Dorset, and my poor little boy has only just come out of hospital after literally fighting for his life, he nearly died twice in 1 week. Around 1 in 10 who contract this strain of E Coli or O157:H7 can get HUS 'Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome' my 18 month old was that 1 in 10.
Basically, if you get HUS it WILL try to kill you - end of. I won't go into all the painful details though I will shorten it (dialysis,blood transfusions,respirators, brain swelling and acute kidney failure/possible long term) but I will say WASH WASH WASH & WASH your children's hands (and yours) when around animals ANYWHERE, and when you think they are clean, wash them 1 more time - fancy gel's will NOT stop this, but simple soap and water will.
We may never find out where exactly he contracted it, but it certainly was NOT at Monkey World.
Public Health England think it may be being spread by migrating birds, but they really have no idea, or proof.
I really don't want to scare anyone off coming here to Dorset and certainly not to Monkey World, it is a fantastic place, but I felt I needed to speak out. Just keep those mucky paws clean and you will have no worries at all.

Sorry for the scary stuff, but you would never think something like this could happen to you, and then out of the blue it does.

Oh, and finally I'd just like to say if it weren't for Southampton Hospital's PICU unit, my son almost certainly would not be here now - Angels sent from above isn't high enough praise, and if you have a few spare pennies you could always donate them Here. Really, I was shocked at the percentage of equipment that was donated, a massive amount. I found myself wondering if it weren't for donated stuff, would half of it even be there.......probably not.
