This site shows just what a load of rubbish the MOT test is.
Advisories are given for stupid things by garages trying to get work. My previous car i had for 9 years and things put as advisories one year disappeared the next despite not being addressed.
I recently sold it and know that the track rod ends are so bad they are causing severe tyre wear on one edge( i could easily move the wheel left to right showing its badly worn ). But i see it has gone through the MOT with it just as an advisory. But then it was sold to a car dealer ( funny how things pass for them that would fail for a private owner )
My current car has advisories for oil residue on engine ! ! . So what - its not leaking oil so why does this even need mentioning ( no doubt the garage was trying to get work that didn't need doing ).

Went for a walk today and thought I'd have a bit of fun with this. I was amazed by how many cars I came across with dodgy mileage. The worst one was an 03 plate white Astra. In 2013 its odometer read 141,182 miles yet the year later it went down to 107,000

They don't remind you when your MOT runs out, only the Car Tax. It's up to you to remember to check when it's due. Your insurance company should remind you when your insurance is due, so the only thing you have to remember is the MOT.

Cool just checked on an old Corsa I traded in back in 2002 (it was 8 years old then) and it was still being MOT'd till 2008. Last MOT's basically said, it is rusting everywhere and has been welded all over. But currently has no holes :-)

Yes, but as I said, that is the dubious link, as it is a .net site. Read back through comments 1 to 5, you'll see that it was questioned right from the start.
For unknown reasons the official .gov. site doesn't have this information available for you to access, as noted in my last comment.

Try again. I just checked mine with no problem. Don't see why its a deal when its free on a government website. Its been around as beta for a while too. The 'beta' will disappear when its vehicle database is complete and accessible.

Very handy service. Wish this had been around 8 years ago. We'd had our car about 5 years when we got a random call from the police to let us know our car had been clocked just before we bought it. I thought we'd bought it just after it's 1st MOT, turns out it'd had an MOT a week previous to the one we were given and that had 90,000+ more miles recorded! The people involved were prosecuted but we'll not get any money back without suing and it's going to be more difficult to sell on now.
This is a really good find: invaluable when looking at second hand cars to buy. I have used it several times recently and found it is generally much more accurate than the sellers!

Brilliant. Previously you needed the MOT number or V5 Document ref: to get this information. Makes searching for a new car safer. You can check the mileage history and MOT advisories. Thanks OP.

Ops yeah, seems like it's under beta so once it's tried & tested I assume it'll be under a .gov domain.
