Be aware that the screens scratch more easily than some top end phones and can crack if dropped from relatively short distances. So ensure you get a cover/ case asap. Other than that these phones are incredible at double or more money even.

dreadzone101
6 Oct 17#78
Not sure but I doubt it. It's probably due to Banggood using a different shipping company than other common Chinese sellers. Gearbest and AliExpress deals have never had multiple incidences of customs charges even though their orders would normally be tracked. It might just been down to luck for Banggood as there was no noticeable difference between people who got charges and people who didn't. However, the number of people getting charged seems to be much higher.
deany76
6 Oct 17#77
Looks like UK customs have the radar on banggood and gearbest, maybe. Fair play, if its 20% over the Xiaomi are still crazy good value. Xiaomi need to get a distributer in the UK handling orders and Warranty claims they would do very well. Folks after the Mi Mix 2 might press the button with the extra piece of mind. Win win for all.

The Android Version might remain the same but MIUI will still get updates and Xiaomi are good in that regard. Their Mi2 for example which is a 4 year old phone will still receive MIUI 9 amongst many of their older phones.
For Android Version updates, the alternative would be the Mi A1 mentioned on the other thread: androidauthority.com/xia…64/ "It aims to offer pure Android Nougat experience with a guarantee of Android Oreo update before the end of this year. In a surprise announcement at the launch, it was shared that the Mi A1 will also receive the Android P update, whenever it’s available."

These fitted my wife's Redmi Note 4 Global perfectly. Cheap as chips and a choice of colours to boot!
Thanks for the info. It's a shame as with Oreo so close I'm a bit reluctant to buy a new phone that will be stuck on an outdated OS. I'd be buying it for my Mum and I'd prefer for her to have the latest security fixes. I guess a custom ROM might be an option but that's obviously more hassle than an OTA update.
dreadzone101
6 Oct 17#53
See here: hotukdeals.com/com…585 It was the same for plenty of others who bought from Banggood recently.
What Banggood classed it wasn't responsible for you being charged. That's their standard marking for phones< but customs charges weren't a problem until recently. On the past few Banggood deals, there were people stating the same ($22 mp4 player + marked as gift) yet there were differences in people getting charged or not. So it's something else caused the recent surge in custom charges for Banggood orders.

OK well it has been out the box and fully set up but the fact jo screen guards work properly with the s7 edge screen I don't like to use it, hate air bubbles on then despite being experienced in applying them the curve causes them always especially with a case on also and the tempered glass screen guards are also trash from expensive ones to cheap Chinese ones. Would rather a s7 over the edge and I would use mine.

You will want the free slow delivery. Yes will be about 3.5 weeks till arrive and won't know till last minute it's arriving just when you are giving up. But it will be very very unlikely to get checked and hit with vat and charges from the delivery company for paying the charges and administration. That's what might likely happen on the fast air mail where you get in about 10 days. To be honest most of the wait is just UK customs holding it up before I presume waving the whole container through. Shocking really things aren't checked.
