Good Lord, don't give Sam of London another one to moan about. Ahem...B20... :relaxed:

I had to laugh when I saw him (or her) complaining about how a good deal "it" posted hadn't gone hot - maybe residual ill feeling from him (or her) continual whining on imported phone threads?

Yeah we all know the joke but B20 is important - maybe less so at this price level but I would go out of my way to have it now I’ve had it. I would hate to have no signal at any given time and always have in the back of my mind: ‘is this because there is genuinely no signal or because I cheaped out and bought a phone without full coverage’. By all means settle for a slower SoC or less RAM but when it comes to signal that’s number one for me

What do you mean have no signal at any given time of course you will have a signal just not 4g, as i said earlier i have 2 no band 20 phones currently using Mi6 and i use a tesco sim (o2) but its not a problem whatsoever i get great 3g signal and it uses HSPA + which i find very fast on the internet for me anyway here is an explanation of HSPA+ HSPA+ or Evolved High Speed Packet Access, is a souped-up version of HSUPA and HSDPA 3G standards with speeds comparable to the newer LTEnetworks. Theoretical speeds are said to feature download speeds up to 168Mbps and uplink of 22Mbps.6 May 2012

Because there will be places that have 4G on band 20 only and no other signal. You don’t always have 3G automatically where there is no 4G, not even 2G sometimes - we have this situation near our offices in Whiteley, there was a 4G mast erected but 2G and 3G were provided by cells much further out.
I am well aware of how fast 3G can be in theory.

and I have the brilliant ZUK Z2 (no Band 20) on EE (BT Mobile) and have had 4G everywhere I've been so far. OK, it's nice to have (essential if you want 4G on 02) but it's omission is nowhere near as dramatic as Sam makes out. He's a bit of a troll )or Google bot lol)

Does anyone know what the camera is like on this? Looking for a decent camera phone - got Huawei p8 2017 lite - really good handset but camera isn't all that. This looks like better battery & smaller (prefer), but thinking if camera will be better or not?

Redmi line have ok but not great cameras. Pretty sure it wouldn't be better than what you have.

I have setup a Redmi 4A and its great for an older person using WhatsApp, email, Youtube but its still on July security update, the Redmi Note 4 is on Aug Security update. The Nokia 3 with nfc I saw for 95 quid Vodafone and dual sim £99 and news reports say its been updated to Sept update. The Mi A1 has just been updated to same update recently. I hope to see some consistentcy here in the long term.

I have the Mi6 no band 20 and prior to that had the redmi note 3 again no band 20 and never had a problem so come on Sam dont let us down. Just a bit of info for you Sam Xiaomi announced today they sold a record over 10 million phones in September over 1 million in 48hrs in a 2 day sale in India on Flipkart and Amazon India, they just get bigger and bigger just wish they would start selling them on Amazon UK article here en.miui.com/thr…tml

Don't want to hijack the thread but you can get the newer (but lesser) Global version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A (Gold only) for £83.17 here...
It carries a Snapdragon 425 (vs the 435 here) and only has 2GB/16GB of RAM/ROM (vs 3GB/32GB here) so technically is the worse phone but if you like the latest phones, it might appeal to you.
Quick edit...
The 3GB/32GB version of the 5A with the Snapdragon 435 (again only in gold) comes in at £108.88. Not sure if this is the Global model. Here's the link...
I think you would need to consider more than just the processor and memory sizes. The Redmi Note 5A is a larger 5.5" phone, hence 'Note'. The higher model is like a larger Redmi 4X but with 1000mah less battery and the screen won't be as sharp (larger screen, same 720p res). The lower model is like a larger Redmi 4A. The only improved feature is the separate dedicated microSD and better front camera+flash on the higher model but besides that, I don't think they fit well in terms of price and spec, compared to the other current Redmi phones.

Just for info, the colour correction on the photo of the Rose Gold is waaaay off, it is a sublte shade of gold, NOT pink. (I have one, because it was £20 cheaper than the other colours at the time.

I went with the 4a for my mum just recently. The 5a will be too big screen wise for her.
Couldn't justify the 20 quid more for the global 4x, she will be a light user and this will serve her very well.

Yes. Mums just aren't worth spending an extra £20 on whatever the reason.

Cold as the Gold global version of 4X had been posted for £95 recently. It has Band 20 and will not be tampered with unlike the Chinese version.
This is great for the money. But I would go for the note and the bigger ram version, it's worth spending a little extra for a few bits more. This band 20 thing is only important if you aren't flying with O2 or Vodafone. I had my oneplus one originally and if you're with EE which usually has faster speeds than the O2 voda equivalent this isn't a problem and as others have said you can get fast 3g speeds. If they turn off 3g though you would be stuffed that is the masts that would probably be turned off first if your rationalised in an area.

Normally if you go with aliexpress delivery (the method you're least likely to get customs charges on) will take around 20 to 30 days.

I hate the pricing of different colors... Why is black £13 more than rose gold? Surely that's not based on actual cost!
