How long do Samsung support OS/Security updates for?
cactusweasel to Scorpion
7 Oct 17#63
I have a Note 4 (which came out October 2014 i believe) and I still get regular security updates, once every month or two. They have stopped actual OS upgrades however, I'm still on 6.0.
Edit: Just to clarify it's a sim-free UK model, didn't get it through a network.

Thank you but I haven’t got a phone to trade in, very good deals available at eglobal - has anyone had any dealings with them??
I swapped my iPhone 7 plus for this Samsung Galaxy s8 phone and I have to say it's the best phone I've owned in a long time. Good styling, features and general size. Personally I'd prefer a bigger internal hard drive, but hopefully we get that with the s9. Great price and heat.

I got a kick out the the "internal hard drive" part :face_with_monocle: Joking aside you can install a Micro SD card (up to 256GB). 128GB micro sd cards can be picked up for reasonable prices!

I've got a 256gb. So that's ideal for the emulators and many games. Just like a slightly bigger internal for the android games which you can't move to external. Gta etc. Is a quality phone though  no more Apple.

eglobal are selling them at around 460 at the mo so this is actually quite a bit more, i actually at first thought the deal was £100 off the £589, which would of tempted me.

They’re also selling the LG G6 for £403 - could almost be tempted back to Android again at that price.

Just to make people aware... if you sign up to these BT sim deals that have been flying around lately, you get an email afterwards with £50 off spend from the BT Shop after the order has gone through... so could be used against this. I recently signed my missus up again with them, £12 a month for unlimited mins/texts and 6gb data, plus we got a £90 amazon voucher and £50 off BT shop voucher code.

With Amazon Italy, what would the warranty be like? Deciding to go with Amazon. It or pay the extra and go Samsung direct
pabosotf123 to arnie
5 Oct 17#39
There is a free VR offer from Samsung, I would assume a retailer like BT Shop would be fine for claiming this promotion, but I dont think Amazon Italy would be eligible so something else to weigh up before purchasing. You would have to confirm with BT Shop that they are eligable for the promotion before purchasing though just to be sure.

Not a good deal in my opinion, it was £530 on giffgaff until last week (£618 S8+) I got mine from amazon.it (warehouse like new) at £410 I checked and the coral blue one (brand new) is £480-ish sold by amazon.it
Great deal, I just went for the s7 edge at £449 over the weekend as Samsung ran a 0% finance deal for it so it's only £18 a month for me rather than stumping up the full amount, but this is decent for the added features....
Amazon Marketplace a lot like eBay or a classifieds section. Other sellers just advertising their supply

So what's the downside to that?

They can randomly cancel your order after several days despite being 'despatched' making you miss other deals.

Coming from a private seller using the Amazon market place to fulfil. You'll still have the same return periods etc. Amazon only sell their products... like kindle, echo etc the other products are sold by market place sellers using their fulfilled by Amazon service.

Samsung have a deal on the s8 for £533 if you trade in an older samsung phone. My daughter has an old s4 phone which she is trading in but this is an excellent deal too, well done OP

The same offer is still available on Samsung website until 8th October, with 24 months 0% interest free credit. £533 for Galaxy S8 with trade in.
Apologies - wasn't aware of this trade-in programme.
They were running another one which expired on 30 September which gave you a trade in value for your old phone plus a bonus of £100.

Took advantage of this as well today as I had an old S3 in a drawer as well add in the vr thingy and 24 months IFC then it's a good deal directly with Samsung if you have an old phone in a drawer.

Is this offer available via the physical Samsung stores or only online?
It seems that there are plenty of offers out there, but this is a good outright price from a UK based retailer. Heat from me.
Good price but managed to get mine from kikatek for £550 in August.

Wait a bit and the price will drop on the V30 for sure. The price on the Pixel 2 XL won't jump too much until Pixel 3 is near release.
V30 is the best Android phone on the market I believe but if i could afford it, I'd buy the Pixel 2 XL as I love pure android experience.

I bought the S8+ for the wife a couple of weeks ago - new and sealed for £619 from gifgaf. Haven't checked if that price is still valid but in comparison this really doesn't seem like a good deal to me. :unamused:

Do we think this is going to go much lower in Black Friday sales?!? Don't know whether to go for this one (or the Samsung trade in offer as i have an old iPhone 4 sitting in the drawer) or wait until Black Friday...

And if you purchase directly from Samsung you will get free VR headset with controller. I have purchased S8 plus dual sim for £662 with latest VR headset. Offer for VR Headset is valid until 2nd November 2017

Don't think you can get the VR headset if you use the trade in. Not judging by the terms of the VR headset offer anyway. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
