Not much to say about the player - allows you to watch Netflix, amazon, your tube etc.
Looks like the cheapest it’s been.

Great box and a very good price. So much faster and more responsive than the roku streaming stick, plus it supports Plex.

Paid full price for this (£79.99) a couple of months ago from Argos and don't regret it, already had a smart TV but wanted a wired connection with a good interface and lag free navigation and that's exactly what it delivers , faster than any of my smart TVs, Chromecast & fire sticks, great interface and super quick processing of anything you click on , the remote is really good too as you don't have to point it directly at the device .
No brainer at this price , tempted to buy another

Released that now but still a good price and if anything goes wrong warrenty with Amazon is good. Can't stress how quick & smooth these are and they have all the major services available
As far as I'm aware this is the only device to support Netflix , nowtv and Amazon video but I may be wrong . (I think nowtv doesn't support Netflix, neither does firestick , unsure in apple TV)

Thanks, just ordered 2.
Edit: should add that these are refurbished, still got a warranty though so doesn't bother me.

Just to note that the link leads to a refurbished Roku, not a new one.

Currys have NEW ones but £59.97 if anyone is not keen on a refurb.
In store only and limited stock, none near me. Was bidding up to £40 on ebay for second hand units anyway, so £43 with a warranty will do for me.

Is roku the only player to have nowtv and Amazon available without having to tinker?

Possibly? It certainly does both as I already have a few, but not sure on other players.

But it does work with IPTV using Plex unlike the Now boxes which have had this facility disabled.

Heated, not bad at all. I really like that the Roku supports ALL major streaming services, far too many of these devices are missing one or two of the services, just because big companies like Amazon, Netflix, Now TV etc can't get along, so the customer suffers and needs multiple boxes for what should be possible on one.
So I like that this has good compatibility and is fast. The headphone remote would also be a boon for me as I'd use it with my projector, which is very loud (fan) meaning I have to up the volume more than I really like to for me to hear it, but I could just plug in a nice set of headphones with this.
Only thing is, I feel the Roku 3 is showing it's age a tad in some ways i.e. zero UHD 4K support (you need the Roku 4 for that). Plus I have heard that Roku have completely pulled out of the UK market so updates and improvements might be thin on the ground, though I imagine the software is plenty mature anyway since this box has been out a good few years.
Tempting, if it was just a tiny bit cheaper I think I'd bite, but good nonetheless....

If you can get one, the new Roku 2's are much faster than the older ones. I have a (newish) Roku 2 and a Roku 3, and I cant see much speed difference. Roku 3 has a better remote with included headphone out. Apart from that I dont think they are functionally different.

The 4K Roku premiere can be had for £55 including postage / custom duties from Amazon US. Will it work withUK services or is it tied to US versions of Netflix / Amazon Video?

I am not sure, I believe there are issues with getting a US Roku in that it has the US store, no iPlayer, etc.
Update: with a bit of reading online, it looks like you can set up a US Roku with a UK Roku account and would then get UK channels. Or there is a way to use a US Roku account and add iPlayer as well by the look of it. However watching US channels or US Netflix in the UK may well need a VPN. It does seem that different sites are saying different things about using a US Roku abroad though so I would recommend doing some reading yourself before taking the plunge.

Bear in mind that Roku seems to have abandoned the UK - there are no further updates to these boxes.
That said, it is a great box for supporting all the apps and being really responsive - its much faster than the sticks.
Other points to consider (I'm just thinking of negatives):
-You do have a rotating advert on the front page. -Theme customisation is poor. -File playback is poor outside of Plex (you can mirror your phone buts its terrible).

I haven't seen ant adverts on my home page where my installed apps are listed?
I do agree the customisation is poor but that doesn't bother me to much as you can move the app tiles about to any order you like ,it's nice & simple and a rather clean interface , easy for anyone to pickup and use.
Regarding file playback I was actually impressed as I tried playing an mkv on my Samsung smart TV the other day and the audio codec wasn't supported but it worked fine through the usb port on the side of the Roku
Regarding the Roku 4 I've heard that importing it from the US is fine and pretty much everything works except for BBC iPlayer

Do you mean no further firmware updates? Our 3500EU Streaming Stick appears to have been updated September 14th? On v7.7.0? According to this, it should get Roku OS 8 later this year? I know they don't seem to be releasing the new hardware here though. :disappointed:

There's none in stock at this price now :disappointed: If I just want something for my dad that has a remote control with a big Netflix button on and it runs well (unlike the lagfest of the inbuilt Netflix on his tv) would this be the thing or is there something better?

BTW anyone know why Roku pulled out of the UK market?
I guess they sell a lot more in the US but seems like a real FU to all their existing UK based customers.
I would be really tempted with the cheap premier someone mentioned above but would definitely need to know it would work in the UK. Could probably live without catch up TV as lots of other things can do that but if it doesn't support the core Netflix/Amazon and, to a lesser extent, Now TV it's kinda pointless....

I've got two UK Roku sticks, I'll grab the one that hardly gets used and see if I can set it up as a US stick, if so that would suggest the reverse can be done with a US Roku too. It'll probably be a bit later before I can try it though.
If you do go for the Premier, it might be worth paying a few quid more and getting the refurb Premier+ instead, the Premier+ does HDR and has a MicroSD slot (I presume for media playback), the Premier doesn't do HDR, and there is only a few quid in it if you go for the refurb Premier+.

I have just set up one of my Rokus again and created a US account on the Roku website, now this Roku has the US channel store including Hulu and no iPlayer. So it would seem that the Roku channel availability is set by the account and any account will work on any device. Obviously certain channels will be region locked so you cannot watch the content in another country, such as BBC iPlayer, but within the UK it will work fine. For example I just tried loading Hulu on my now 'US' Roku and it gave me an error that the service is not available outside the US.
Edit: Just read a bit online that iPlayer will not work on US devices (or at least specifically not on the newer Roku Stick 3600R) as although you can use a UK account on the device and get ITV Player, All 4, Demand 5, etc all working, iPlayer gives an error about being an unsupported device.

I prefer the layout of the remote on Roku 2 although the Roku 3 uses wireless rather than infra-red and you can plug earphones into the remote.
Good for Netflix, Amazon and NOW TV but no BT Sport which is a shame.

I have the US roku stick the newer one and can confirm no iplayer unfortunately however with plex for VOD and then a dedicated iptv app for live tv thats all you need really also with the US stick you also get dedicated netflix and prime buttons unlike the uk version
