I know it's only the 3gb cut down 1060, but this still seems to be the best value 1060 out there - be really interested if anyone can find a better deal.

aargh! I should really post this seperately but this is better with the ssd and ram increases, and the full fat 1060.
Hot Hot Hot, most laptops you see at this price range are 1050's

Good deal, personally I don't see the point of the 6GB version as 3GB is ideal for 1080p and for over that you would be better with a 1070.

3GB is not ideal for 1080p gaming usage for me at that res on most games has been well above on the newer games

Which games have needed more than 3GB?

Games like GTA 5 can eat more then 3gb at 1080p.

If your monitor is only 1080p then it is irrelevant what the maximum possible res of the game will be because you will only be able to play it at 1080p, so, as others have said, having more than 3gig isnt going to be of much use

Thanks Squibski - but I'm looking specifically for a 17" display so it's not really a like for like.

Ok I didn't know that. Might be an alright deal then
I'm currently trying to get my hands on a 15 inch 1060 6gb model for a grand but I'm coming up short unless I buy second hand. I'm probably going to end up waiting for black Friday and keep my fingers crossed
Also, it was proposed as being the best value 1060. Not as being the best value 17 inch i7 1060.

Ok but know which I would rather go for

TBH I wasn't that clear in the original post. That being said, my spec list is basically i7, 17 inch and I've been debating the cost difference between the 3gb 1060 and a 1050ti. Thanks for the input though - looks like this is still about the best price for that spec - I'll be clearer next time!

Looks good for the money, shame i am in the market for a 15" gaming laptop or i would be tempted by this but saying that does anyone know how good the screens are on these msi laptops there does seem to be loads of different models with good spec but can't find any details on the quality of the panels in them.

I was looking at something similar year or so ago and settled for the gs40 MSI..excellent machine ..even with 970m running all games high spec ..the problem with the bigger MSI for me was the windows key being on right side only
