Why wouldn't Halal stores have the bacon?

Halal certification just means the animal had a prayer said to it before it was killed. That's literally all there is. So for muslims who want to eat at KFC, they can order the halal chicken. But the Double Down will still have bacon in it.... they just won't order it themselves.

do you have a similar view of Kosher slaughter as well or is it just Halal slaughter you disagree with?
How about keeping the birds in cages and force feeding them until they balloon in size and develop all manner of deformities within 3-4 weeks before they are gassed / electrocuted for your consumption. Yeah that seems like a more humane way of killing chickens.

simple fact of the matter is that if you live in the UK and eat chicken then chances are animal welfare is not a real concern for you unless you rear chickens and slaughter them yourself.

I tried this when it was introduced in a sales campaign in Denmark. My advice is "don't... just don't". It sounded like a disgusting idea, but in a great greasy junk food way. Well it was greasy and junkfoody, but by no means great. In general I much prefer the different Knockoff KFC-style places instead. Cheaper, better seasoned etc. Do it, if you have to, but I am pretty sure it will a one-time deal for most of you.

The white flour and potato chips make it high glycemic index. So it will increase cravings and mood swings and blood sugar highs . Not sure how much saturated fat in there as well though I agree fat is not the devil as once it was thought to be.

Have they changed the Original recipe?, I had KFC yesterday and it was not as flavoursome as I remember.

Also the chips were soggy and like McDonalds fries, thin. KFC used to do chips more like a Kebab shop, much better in old days imo.

Good thing it was only on yesterday...

Mine was OK, cheese was freezing and only melted a little when dipped it into the gravy.

Didn't ask if I wanted the bacon or not, which was salty and detracted quite a bit from the overly sweet BBQ sauce.

Chips were fantastic for once, this was the highlight!

Uninstalled the Colonel app ages ago, like the Greggs one never bother to use it at the checkout as it always causes too much confusion.

At over 400 calories, 900mg of sodium, and 25g of fatty acids, a single KFC burger can become the reason of severe health complications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that we need to keep a balance in our life. Even occasional use of junk foods can lead you to An unhealthy Heart, High blood pressure & lots of other problems

Thanks. I can't find the nutritional value of this but this is just scare mongering. Just over 400 calories isn't too bad actually. No harm in indulging every once in a while. It's the carb content I'd be more worried about than the fat. Thanks.

Actually thats the same as kosher and it's actually cleaner with less bacteria as the blood is drained out.

Science proves that blood is the most capable medium of bacterial growth. This contaminated meat makes the human body more vulnerable to infections and considerable pain in the joints, due to the rising uric acid level in the blood.

Are you anorexic or do you have a similar eating disorder?
400 calories (or in fact the 540 here) isn't a large amount. I've been successfully losing weight with most meals being maybe 450 to 600 with plenty of snacks in between (including chocolate and crisps a few times a week).

It's long been known Fat isn't the boogey man (too many calories and an overall unhealthy life style is.)

Even the same is now being shown for salt...
>>
In this study, those with the lowest risk for heart problems or death from any cause were consuming three to six grams of sodium a day—far more than US daily recommended limits.

Not only did more than six grams of sodium a day raise the risk for heart disease, so did levels lower than three grams per day. In short, while there is a relationship between sodium and blood pressure, it’s not a linear relationship.14 As noted by the Associated Press:15
<<
Remember the sodium/potassium balance is also important.

Overall, I'd suggest the 'unhealthy' bit is believe that one specific food etc is good or bad - the whole llifestyle is what's important and there shouldn't be a problem incorporating KFC into that!
(When there was the free KFC thing on a few years ago I would often get them on the way back from having done a 10k run - my body needed calories to replenish those lost and you get a nice selection of protein, carbs and fat from a burger :). )
_g_ to _g_
4 Oct 17 #66
You could easily incorporate several a week into a healthy lifestyle.

A lot of people are anti-carbs for good reason.
These are higher in protein and lower in carbs as well as lower in overall calories than many 'normal' burgers.

And just to add to the Halal wars, I went to the “Halal” KFC on Friday and they were advertising the Double Down. I tried to get info on if it contained bacon (or “turkey bacon” like the “Halal” Subways) or what alternatives there would be in the Double Down, but the cashier said they’re having a meeting on Sunday evening related to it.

Had one of these earlier, it really was not worth the money as the fillets were pretty small and it was just a bit bland and messy to eat - I left feeling pretty disappointed. It only really tasted of the cloying sweetness of the BBQ sauce that it was swamped in which completely killed the taste of the chicken (not sure if they were over compensating for a lack of bacon as it was from a halal store but there was way too much of it and it was the dominating taste by miles). It should be impossible to buy something like this and still feel hungry after eating it but that's exactly what happened.

This may be down to my local store but it's certainly not something I would bother to get again.

10 Oct 17 #83
That's pretty much how I image it to be like. I hate BBQ sauce in fast food shops. They always put too much and it's sickly. Bacon always looks really pale and ill looking or just full of fat. The "double down" burger could have been a good idea as who doesn't enjoy eating chicken without bones? But having some nice bread that isn't stale would make it feel more worthy of a ~£5 burger.

The KFC fillet burgers have gone downhill over the years. They used to be very satisfying but with most things KFC sell now, quality has gone downhill. The mayo in the burgers is still nice though and hard to replicate/find.
